A quick follow up to my first video review. This time it worked well! Here's an Amazon link for the tank: amzn.to/3T04fgJ

So quick update here. Just tested this on my portable buddy heater. I got 2 hours and 57 minutes of use on high. Half hour longer than they claim with a 1lb tank. So that’s a win.

Great video. I found some at Menards after watching your video. Had to get some help as they were on top shelf in the plumbing isle lol no shelf spot yet. But I tried them out and I love it. Super easy and convenient!

Great video, thanks! I normally refill the standard 1 pounders, but they take a little more work to get a full pound in.

Good video. I watched it twice. Followed your directions and I filled my first tank. The difference between empty and full was 4oz. Thanks

The one thing I dislike about the Flame King tanks is the tiny allen wrench. I purchased a bulk of them and some small neodymium magnets to keep them attached to the bottom of the tank but I still lose a few. I like the tooless bleeder of the Fuel Keg. The cons of the Fuel Keg are the black tanks and the short stand legs. The Fuel Keg tank can't be refilled on a flat surface like the flame King can. I have about 20+ Flame King tanks so I'm pretty much stuck with them.

Buy a 5/16 hex key socket and keep it with your refill kit

The only complaint i have with the flame king is when using it for a propane lantern the tanks dont fit snugly into the base. They are a bit loose and that can get sketchy.

Can you run a Mr. Heater Big Buddy at 18000 BTU on only one one pound cannister? Everything I've read says that you need two installed to run it at high. On one cannister you can only run it on low and medium.

I have noticed with the Flame King refillables, once you get close to the end of the burn cycle in a small portable fishing shelter, my eyes start to burn in the last few minutes. Whereas with the factory filled bottles, that doesn't happen. I have not tried the Mr. Heater version yet, but just wondering what might cause the eye burning/irritation? Is the propane gas cleaner in the factory filled bottles? Have you ever experienced the same issue? PLMK

There shouldn't be any difference. Propane in propane out.

Important note about the packaging; there are 3 hand screws in a plastic bag in the valve/stand package to secure the plastic legs to the 20lb tank. I almost threw them away.

Thanks for your follow-up video, your videos are excellent. I watched the video that you did on replacing the old 'O' Ring in the Flame King 1# cylinder with a stem kit... I also bought the Flame King 1# pound refillable bottle, but I felt like their stand in the kit was a bit too "cheesy" to use it was "wobbly". I have a much better stand but no tailgate in my SUV, Question for you about the Flame King? Is there no safety overfill "pop-off" valve with Flame King bottles? I guess I am having some "buyers remorse" about my 1.Flame King bottles since they can be overfilled. 2.They come empty and you have to pay for them to be filled the first time unlike the Green bottle from Walmart. 3.You can't refill them without their special adapter? I didn't realize that there were three more investments. Not just swapping one for the "other"? Plus it is 'Made in Thailand', I'm also getting a strong odor of gas leaking around the brand new Flame King valve? Since I now have the option to go either way with Flame King or the better built imo disposable COLEMAN bottles which are "Made in the USA" I will have to give them both a fair test, I TRUST Coleman Company as my Dad had his own his own HVAC business and was a distributor for them. Coleman has been around forever and has built a solid reputation. I really dislike the "proprietary" thing too with FK, I guess I will be buying an adapter to refill the flame king bottles and get my ROI? But it is like I'm am spending a dollar to save a dime! ...as a guy who really likes saving money, the adapter kit is too much for me right now.. I will definitely be following your channel in order to see your future comparisons.

Thanks for watching Kevin. If you use a lot of propane, then I think the cost is justified, but yeah I get what you are saying.

the flame king bottles do have a relief valve, it's built into the valve body, not welded into the tank.

Do you need a fuel filter with the Fuel Keg? Normally you need a filter when using a 20 gal tank.

Don't understand why you have to use the special filler. Have been using a regular fitting to fill my flame king for years without any problem.

I'm hoping someone will come up with a method to bypass there stupid filler Mr heater came up with. I have been using a generic, but very high quality refiller for the disposable tanks for couple ice seasons now and I finally got some Flame King tanks this season and We don't have any damn ICE! Oh well. I like the Mr Heater design, but will only buy them if I can use my current tool.

Do you get a full pound of propane into the flame king bottles?
@kevinwiens4804
@kevinwiens4804 6 месяцев назад
You can get a full pound of propane but it's not really worth it, at the risk of overfilling? The reason that all propane bottles are only filled to 80% of capacity by professionals instead of filling to maximum capacity is to allow for expansion on very hot days. All propane bottles have both "liquid and gas" inside because propane the gas propane is compressible whereas liquid LP can't be compressed therefore you don't want to Fill any Flame King cylinder to the MAX. To avoid a rupture or worse splitting / or exploding your Flame King bottle...itself.

@@kevinwiens4804 if you measure the physical size of the flame king, mr heater and disposable bottles they are all the same physical size and are all designed to safely hold 1 pound of propane. the mr heater bottle is not 20% larger than the flame king bottle, it would be visibly obvious if it was.

@@kevinwiens4804 And this is why I DO NOT VENT, when I refill. I get an arf a pound, or just a bit less, depending on how low the bigger tank is. So, no chance of overfill. But I still weigh it while I'm filling it.

Don't waste your money. I bought 2 tanks and the refill kit. Both bottles vented for about 5 seconds and stopped. Trying to get ahold of tech support is almost impossible.
