December 14, 1985 New York City, New York, USA Setlist: Black/White Something Real (Inside Me/Inside You) Broken Wings Into My Own Hands Is It Love Kyrie
I engineered this recording using the Sheffield Recordings LTD, remote truck. I used a brand new (that day!) Trident 80B console and Genelec monitors. This recording was either recorded analog on an Otari MTR90 or digitally on a Sony Dash 3324 machine, I can't remember. The majority of the tracks were from the touring rig and I used 4 Shure SM57's facing away from the stage, on the audience. The original show was an MTV broadcast. I mixed the tracks at Sheffield the morning after the show. This was a wild, wild day for myself and the recording crew. We didn't have enough time, the Ritz was many stories up a brownstone, we had to run our heavy snake up a fire escape and the setup was challenging. But we got through it!
You're a legend for this mix, thanks for the insight into the engineering of this incredible recording. As someone who's done live sound many times myself, I can confidently say I've never had to route a snake up a fire escape. You do what you gotta!
I really think Mr. Mister were a much better band than they ever got credit for being. Nearly 40 years later, I still listen to "Welcome to the Real World" regularly. It was, and still, is a great album.
@@guus007 Look for a performance that Richard Page gives of "Kyrie" with Ringo's All-Starr Band. Even decades later, he still has that great tenor voice.
Fun fact- the guitar he’s playing here was 1 of 2 identical guitars built by Grover Jackson. The other one went to Steve Vai and became his main guitar until he signed with Ibanez.
@haysgoodman8068 I believe you could programme a Simmons electric drum to create different sounds. Bill Bruford was also an adopter of the kit, and there is a RU-vid video of him discussing it
Richard page . Incredible voice . Incredible singer and background vocalist of many record in the industry of music .One of my favourite group of all time .....
Came on here searching for live mister mr gigs. So thankful for this upload. Hands down one of the most underrated rock band of the 80’s! That mix of guitar/drums/synth married to distinct vocals with catch bass lines and memorable melodies is addictive. If only I could go back in time and see them live. What a band!
Steve Farris is one of the most underrated guitarists in Rock history. So sad he kinda disappeared from the music scene however. His solo on "Talk The Talk" is one of my favorites ever!
Steve seems to have had several "chapters" in his live. He moved away from LA, became involved with ecological causes and for about a decade he did a bunch of hunting shows.
...I saw these guys 3 times back in the day. Just great live shows all throughout. The experience left me nothing short of going to Guitar Center that following morning and getint a 6 string. I will add, it was a great time to be young and be part of this.
The one and only Mr. Mister. Progressive rock, hot 🔥 guitar 🎸 deep grooves, heavy drums, hypnotic keyboards, emotional vocals, and a positive message. What more could you want? Come to life, love, and joy, with the Mister of misters! The boys are coming in hot. Mr. Richard Page - vocals/ bass Mr. Steve Farris - guitar, vocals Mr. Pat Mastelotto - drums, electronic drums Mr. Steve George - keyboards Mr. Mister, taking care of business. All love and gratitude 🙏 ❤
@@mickeybowmeister1944 I don't get you, man. Why are you restricting their awesomeness by decades? Greatest! Band! Of! All! Time! (There... I hope we've settled this issue. 🤣)
Totally locked in set! Each player is on top of their game. Hats off to Mastellotto for being able to play to tracks and make it sound effortless! Steve George never got enough credit for his amazing chord voicings! They were way ahead of their time!
Richard fucking Page is an incredible singer. Sang backup on a shit ton of records back in the 80s. Love this band. Love that RU-vid allows us to all travel back in time to when it was REAL.
Having seen them once in '86(Bangles opened), it came ABUNDANTLY clear very quickly that, to a man, these fellas were GREAT musicians. I mean they could really, REALLY PLAY!!! Pat Mastalotto....Dude is MONEY!
Welcome to the Real World is a great album. It’s one of the few vinyl records I replaced after sellng everything off and moving cross-country. when I saw it in a local record shop in 2018 I had to get it. The copy I traded had a scratch at the beginning of “Is it Love,” and my new copy is used but in perfect shape so it’s good to have that track without a skip because of the importance of that staccato synth part at the beginning in setting the mood. Great, great music!
Brilliant concert. Great band. Richard Page has an unusually high number of similarities in singing style, energy, and musical diversity with Dan Hartman. Exceptionally talented gentlemen.
No kidding, Kyrie is one of my all time favorites along with such classics like Stairway to Heaven, Firth of Fifth, Comfortably Numb and very very few others.
They are a serious band. Serious subject matter. But they intend to have a blast doing it all. There is no "Too cool for school vibe" whatsoever. They remind me a bit of The Police, but they are their own vibe.
I keep running into this phrase "Most Under rated" .... Who's rating? I rate these guys as great. Love Steve's guitar work. Him and Michael Casswell really had great tone and mastery of the whammy.
Pat Mastelotto on drums, future King Crimson member. He also played drums on XTC’s “Oranges and Lemons” album and a bunch of other session work. Great drummer.
Mr.Mister.Enchanting beautiful voice of handsome Richard Page. Inspiring music and very talented handsome guys musicians. Legendary great music.🎤🎸🎹🥁😢💯🎶♥️💋❣️
I just ran across this video. Thank you for posting. Mr Mister is honestly one of the best bands of the 80s. Go On was a great album. I'm just sorry they got lost in the pop scene. I mean, if Howard Jones can still tour, why not this band?
WOW! This band could ROCK it! Gr8 performance in an age prior to big screens and hi tech to enhance the LIVE performances. Somehow the bands of the 80s like Mr. MISTER could pull off killer gigs with their musical prowess.
