I've known the song for years, but this was the first time hearing it by this group. Loved it! Beautiful harmonies, and they look like they're having fun.
I included this one for you primarily because this is only one of 2 videos that include Tim''s oldest daughter Rachel. She was on the left of the screen (and should be the only one you didn't recognize by now). For a time Rachel sang with an acapella group near where they live in Georgia but I believe I heard she is no longer doing that. Yes, it was just a fun little video. I haven't mentioned the names of the band members besides Tim and the girls too much. Toby plays guitar and played most of the live shows after the first one. Darwin played in the first show and sang and played guitar in Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Johnny is on drums - except for playing bass on Landslide. Of course Scott played bass in all the live shows and videos up until his passing in Jan 2022. You will be introduced to the gentleman that plays mandolin in a lot of their newer videos tomorrow. Ross, Scott's brother, now plays bass in about half the videos and Richard plays in the other half.
Thank you for suggesting this to our Maestro of Great Music from the past - revived and revivified - for our listening pleasures! See my comment of a moment ago - I think you may find it fun and in keeping with yours and Jeff's sentiments.
Jeff primarily reviews videos requested via PayPal or his Patreon site. At the moment he is booked up through May 15 at about 2 videos a day. I have at least 10 more Foxes & Fossils on the list right now but I haven't requested Seven Bridges Roiad yet.
Anyone who hears this beautiful rendition who doesn't smile and feel happier after listening to it has either one foot in the grave or already IS in the grave, moldering away! The lyrics alone, if you just read them, would make you smile; they're brilliant and sooooo tight, LIGHT yet powerful in terms of the playful imagery they easily, effortlessly evoke, that - just keeps you floating along, willingly and happily surrendering to the gentle, exquisite balance of the writing - balance being something I am very attuned to as a writer; but then -add the effect each perfectly matched word singularly and collectively affect - when melded with the truly lovely harmonies of the lovely ladies singing and choreographing their singing to be parallel to the sentiments of the song? Well, I must say that indubitably, without shade of a shadow of a doubt that: It's one of the most fun things I've listened to in a long time, Jeff. Thank you for featuring it.
This the right song, and these are the right singers. The harmonies do not suffer from the tambre problems that you see in the other arrangements where female singers are singing male parts. Sounds great. The singers obviously also "in to it". Smiles all around, happy faces, love it.
Morning Jeff. I went and listened to The Chordettes version and I must say this version is MUCH, MUCH better - the voices of the complement of lovely ladies singing here - is richer, more inviting and beautiful than in the original - the composition - orchestration of the song is also much smoother here not as clunky - if that is the right word - than in the original. There is a very good reason we love and enjoy the stellar works of the likes of Foxes and Fossils and Leonid and Friends, I'm a thinkin'. Because with the power that hindsight gives them to look and see what was done - and what probably should have been done if we mix in a "new and improved for modern audience" approach - well, what we's gets is whats de gives us - a piece like this that the Foxes and Fossils should be very proud of having created! Of course, I could be wrong - I was (wrong) once upon a time a long time ago.
That was Tim's wife and Sammies mom who joined Maggie, Chase and Sammie (Purcel) They are a musical family for sure and the "familial " harmony is obvious and beautiful!
World News Polka is another fun one. ABC contacted F&F and asked if they would record their version. It has aired quite a few times early on World News Now on Fridays.Ridiculously under viewed on YT, fans must see the word polka in the title and skip that one.
Jeff, my dad played this for me when I was little. One criticism of this cover is that the band did not go into the jazzy verse like The Chordettes did. Their harmonies were very good. I know this song note for note so while the cover was good, it did not blow me away.
