Thank you so much for putting this on RU-vid. It's been Great to Watch in the Winter Night's and So So Helpful. I remember Watching Mr Smith when I was a Young Lad.
Just found Geoffrey on You Tube I have been trying for years to get BBC to put his brilliant World of Flowers on to DVDs.without any success whatsoever -perhaps then dont like the brass bands and his Yorkshire accent.
I discovered Geoffrey while visiting his masterpiece Harlow Carr. After watching and listening to him I realised he was first a true gentleman and an absolute master of communicating the art and science of gardening.
A great man and a brilliant gardener. Doesn’t seem to be popular at the BBC these days. It’s sad they don’t appreciate the treasure trove of programmes they hold.
I have built six acres farm field into walled garden rooms with tie and shirt rolled sleaves with straw hat and hard work.still at it in 2019 remembering Percy Thrower and geoff Smith with love in my heart for such an education to make God a garden in arts and craft 1912 style
Am so pleased I've found these videos! Thanks for uploading, used to watch this series years ago before I moved out to Corfu to live and have the book that corresponds with the series. Wish I looked as neat and tidy when I'm gardening, look more like a scarecrow!
Geoffrey Smith has raised the bar for what to wear when gardening. Just look at the shine on those beautiful leather shoes. I usually look like a scarecrow in my garden and allotment. Must try harder!!
Wonderful video and great comments. The shirt, tie, or dress & nice shoes, etc is something to strive for but I personally have too many BIG digging projects to undertake. And we have poor drainage in much of our yard.
Yeah I noticed too haha god bless him..just love his homely Yorkshire accent. The tie, the polished brogue shoes, although in other videos he got stuck in with something more appropriate. An absolute mine of info and character loved watching him when I was a young man.
Then in the 1960s it was easy days now Britain is over populated over built and now over taxed. Gardening for a fiver is long gone . so is great Smith the great garden expert of all time
I always thought he did a lot of bbc work in the very late 70s and early eighties. He was the first presenter for Gardeners world wasn’t he. Then Geoff Hamilton. I am sure this is early 80s
