Thank you for transferring these discs onto RU-vid. I can only agree with all the other comments made before mine. Geoffrey Smith was a gardener who knew not only his subject but a practical craftsman able to show even a novice the correct way to perform a task. He presented Gardener's World when it was a joy to watch.
I adore this man, he has integrity and wisdom and I regret not having watched him when I was younger. He reminds me of my father who sadly has also gone on to the great garden in the sky.
My dad was also a very down to earth gardener like Mr Smith. I think a lot of gardeners then were like this🤔. I don't remember any monty don types back in the day ( thank god)
As a child I used to curl up at my mums feet watch watch these when they were first broadcast planning as we watched how we would plant the garden for next season. The great thing was he was so accessible and easy to understand and his projects were all realistic and used the most basic of tools that everyone had.
Brilliant, thank you for sharing these wonderful films of geoffrey I could watch these all day , I'm watching this instead of gardners world, he was ahead of his time and a brilliant communicator simple language everyone understands and not pretentious, the world's seems a better place watching geoffrey do his gardening. His enthusiasm was infectious, Great man
I watched this in the 70s. Of all the TV gardeners over the years Geoffrey was the best. I have an allotment now and still look at his gardening books for information. A real down to earth gardener and sadly missed. RIP Mr. Smith
I use a small piece of rhubarb leaf, ( about the size of your palm ) in the hole where you are putting all brassicas, it helps prevent club root. Done this for donkey's years, and never had club root
Great videos. Thanks for posting. Having only found Gardeners’ World about a year ago I thought it was good but now that I see these I feel differently. In the USa there really are no Gardening shows that are tolerable so I watch all yours. Thanks!
Extremely knowledgeable chap. I lost my father in 1991 but I have kept his Tomatos plant s growing year after year by keep the seeds unfortunately the tomatos are now very deformed
Excellent series. Would be interesting to know where it was filmed and if the site is still allotments. A lot of sites have been sold by councils for housing development.
Hi, the intro and end of the videograms were filmed in his garden and the allotments we have been told by former plot holders were at Sharston but have sadly since been relocated. He talks a little about the series himself in the Desert Island Discs video at about 30 minutes
I used to watch him and always preferred him to Pebble Mill At One's Archbishop Titchmarsh. What a pity you didn't cover my favourite vegetable to grow Geoffrey: The Swede. Not in your diet obviously?
@@shaunsiz.itsbetterbytube2858 Yes, they'll never repeat Geoffrey Smith again or Harry Dodson; real gardeners who were just ordinary men and not 'weirdo's' to put it bluntly!
MATT BAKER PRETENDING TO BE A FARMER WHILST GRINNING LIKE A CHESHIRE CAT AND GONG ON JOLLIES WITH MUMMY AND DADDY OR GREG WALLACE GETTING A STRIPE ON HIS NOSE ARE NOT FOR ME
Really enjoyed that .this is the days before the political broadcast by the Labour Party . and the what vegetable🥕🌽🍆🥒🥦🌰 am I going to be today .a real mans man lol 😆 😂 🤣
