Video shows our visit to Mr Straw's House in Worksop Nottinghamshire. This fascinating house is run by the National Trust and is a semi-detached house built in 1905. Mr Straw and his family moved here in 1923 and created a modern Edwardian home that reflected the families status in the community.
Florence the daughter of a Butcher furnished decorated and carpeted the house in the latest styles of the times. However upon their death in the 1930's their sons lived on in the house and living a frugal life had virtual kept the house in its original condition.
The contents of the house some 30,000 items were left to the National Trust in 1990 upon the death of the last remaining son. The neighbouring house had been bought by the sons in 1940 and this was left to the tennents. The Tennents sold the house to the Trust and so they were able to keep the contents in their original place and we can now enjoy looking at a remarkable piece of 1920 history.
