I remember the first time you made a Glados video you had under 8000 subs at the time and your channel was like a diamond in the ruff a glimering beacon of hope for all us portal fans that wanted this kinda stuff to be made in real life but none of us had the time or resources to do so than there was you, hope is all I thought. Thank you so much for this amazing journey and again thank you for the time you take out of your days to make us geeks happy. Also I am the guy that asked if you would make a full sized glados and if you would make your own personality core, hopefully that rings a bell. An invention I think you could make that you would use is a heated comb to straighten and curl your hair or even dispense hair jell. Have a great year!!!
The most practical invention that I could think of would be a robot claw, because it can be used for so many things like grabbing things from the other side of the room, or multitasking!
@@MrVolt Maybe a smaller claw but on a rail system attached to the roof that can move anywhere, and be out of the way when you don't need it, so sort of what you said but just with multiple joints instead of just one pole and a claw.
One thing, that would be super fun to make is the Wall-E cleaning bot. The cleaning "hand" could actually be used for cleaning and also for pushing the robot back to it's stable state. You could use your one-wheel robot controller here. And some of those cheap oled displays for eyes.
One piece of fictional tech that would be super neat is the Cypher Trapwires from Valorant. The stunning part would be a bit more tricky, but the actually detection and alert system is super doable.
After seeing you on element14, I was very pleased to find your channel. Great content/projects and I'll be a follower for a long time to come. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in 2022.
My favourite robotic character is probably wall-e, it's cute, useful, easy to repair and i just love overall esthetitcs of it. Lots of rust, peeling off paint, dust but he's still doing his job altho he's in sutch a bad condition. It shows how dedicated he is. Also he's pretty easy to make.
The thinking cap (from the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy) Marvin the miserable robot (same book/movie) A mirror bthat adds filters to your reflection
Keep up the great work, I was one of the people who jumped on to your channel when you were making GLaDOS and found it very interesting. One thing that I'm going to say might be possible to make is some sort of inversion glove that with a press of a button or any other switch can flip from your wrist to make maybe some sort of punching glove over your hand. Again I do thinks its possible but my words probably don't make any sense, thanks for fulling my passion and continue to make cool and great gadgets.
So happy for you glad we could give you a good future doing what you love, I've been here from the near(ish) start and I know you deserve it, a well deserved...Well Done!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, not to be pushy or pressure you, but because its still what I would love to see you build since you alread tackled GladOS - 343 Guilty Spark from Halo 😁 Super happy to hear you're able to go full time and all in on the channel dude! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future! Good luck/enjoy the move and being back near family!
Thanks! Your support is really motivating. I've looked into 343 a biiiiit :) Would be a great build to have out before the TV show! Cautious about that one, but loved Forward Unto Dawn.
Glad you're be able to spit out more amazing content since you went full time. Can't wait to see more from the Aperture IRL series too. I'd like to see the intelligent wall panels be covered (may or may not be a giveaway entry)
That Raspberry Pi kit is really nice. I can't find one anywhere because of that chip shortage. So wish me luck :) A self-shooting spider web or something like that. So that if you make a certain movement with your hand, a rope or something else will shoot away from your hand. Optimus Prime, I hope I can make it with the servos :) Big robot that can transform. I really think you can build a home automation system. To clarify, with a Raspberry Pi and a touchscreen and some esp8266 you can build a very nice home automation system. Lights, curtains, sockets, ... and you operate it on the touchscreen or on your phone.
aw man you love to see such good news! glad to see your channel is growing so nicely! I'd personally pick the panels from portal 2 as a "character" because they're definitely more than just a machine. the animations in-game make that very obvious, and I love their simple personalities!
Thanks! I've gotten panels as a request more often that I thought I would. One is definitely doable. The real challenge would be to make it cheap enough to make dozens!
The easiest invention idea I can think of is one that hits close to (or exactly at) home. I live in the center and dirtiest part of my city. An automated vacuum/duster for my workstation/home office desk would be cool. Think robot vacuum but with verticality. One that can navigate my tower, monitor, cookie jar, watch case, etc. without missing a beat.
You're one of the best engineering channels on YT! Glad that you're getting more popular! Also, my robot build idea is - Dog from half-life 2 (I think it's possible to make)
Very happy for you my guy. Going a bit rustic for a character could be very fun. Howl's moving castle came to mind. There are many ways you can add movement to this pile of parts and walking animations could add some nice twists to the project!
Yooooo congrats on the +55.2k! Yep, defo came to this channel because of your GLaDOS animatronic! I've seen many attempts at a GLaDOS animatronic from other people but all of them were powered by micro servos due to their small size and therefore quite a bit jittery and a bit loud when moving (not to say that they were bad or anything they're still cool but limited at its scale). Yours was smooth as heck and also much closer to scale and much more detailed which was super impressive! Now a robot that I think would be cool to see working would be a level 3 sentry from TF2, I would assume it's fairly easy to do except the guns (which should probably be omitted for safety reasons anyways) but the rocket launchers should be completely doable (fireworks and hobby rocket igniters/electric matches should suffice, tho prolly also a bad thing to test in California for... obvious reasons..., defo one time fire I don't see how the reload mechanism would work)
I originally discovered your channel through your Wheatley project and decided to stay. I think it could be really cool to have a real life-sized Portal Gun (without the portals because reality). There's room for moving parts and interesting effects.
I'm so happy you making portal things! I so much love your videos, I even can wait 20 years to see a real full bulid GLaDOS prototype! I hope you will can bulid that someday! Good day for you and goodluck in making portal in our world!💙
I'm happy your doing this full time! I haven't been here from the beginning as I subscribed recently but I will gladly watch contently from here on out
Here's an idea I keep thinking about developing every time I walk to the workshop to check on one of my printers or my laser cutter: Imagine Wheatley suspended from the ceiling on a track that allows for movement in front of each of my devices but on a telescoping rod to raise and lower to the appropriate height and ptz to position just right. Perhaps a positional encoding system so I can have a route preplanned to send a periodic progress report. A personality core with a camera imbedded would be super cool because in idle mode it'd hang out in the middle of the room and when I go into the workshop it could remind me of my failures- er give a pep talk to motivate me through unclogging the printer.
I don’t think it’s likely for you to be into games like Deltarune, but a character I would adore seeing is Spamton NEO. I’m aware it’ll be excruciatingly tedious and difficult to suspend him from the ceiling, but I can at least dream, right? 😌
Also, ur channel is wonderful! I did come here for GLaDOS and Wheatley, and I was not disappointed! I’m so glad I found this channel; ur a wonderful dude! I’d love to give you ideas for your builds, but my brain is dead at the moment… 😂
Object: A flux-capacitor from Back to the Future (I have seen some people make it, but most aren't that good) Android/robot: R.O.B. from the NES Invention: A wrist mounted, mini coil gun
#2 Revival of the Commando Elite and the Gorgonites from the old 1998 movie Small Soldiers! It would be fun to see a desktop animatronic with a few DOF and motion tracking.
A robotic arm driving on management rails like weathly to assist you in many tasks, like soldering or as a robot to manage the inventory of billy shelves
My favorite piece of fictional technology would have to be the servo skull from Warhammer 40k, no one has made one that actually flies or doesn't suck. Animatronic wise, IG-88 or IG-11 from Star Wars. Practicallity wise, I'd love to have a floating assistant like ED-E from fallout or a Servo Skull, that would follow you around with an RFID or something like that.
@@MrVolt Holy Crap, I actually gotta reply. I have to say, I've known about you since you're Prototype Pip Boy GPS, and that project in particular has been a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for making what you make.
My fictional technology brought to real life would have to be the discouragement redirection cubes from portal, which are 100% possible but very difficult to make
If you make a personality core kit option I will be so incredibly grateful; I don't have much experience with animatronics but if I you can make it more approachable that would absolutely be the help I need to assemble a Wheatley myself.
Character: K-VRC from Love Death and Robots. Should be right up your alley I think.- Small, cute, not overdone by others, combines a face display and servo movement for expression. Would love to see this done please...Love the channel, Keep up the great videos!
You should make the camera which GLaDOS uses to veiw the test chambers, or perhaps wheatley's monitor. cant wait to see what you make this year, keep up the great work!
My favorite piece of fictional technology is the portal gun, because it could be used for getting from point A to point B quickly. I know it's impossible but a replica would be awesome.
I hope that one day, we have a tool that will allow us to manipulate gravity in order to be able to pick up and move objects. Basically the gravity gun!
It’s not as physically impressive as GLaDOS, but it’s hard to get more iconic for fictional A.I.‘s than HAL 9000, and I think you could make something pretty awesome by adding your own twists and functionality to the build. Look forward to seeing the amazing content you put out in the future.
My idea(s) for a fictional device that could be built in the real world are either Baymax’s rocket fists from Big Hero 6 or Wasabi’s Plasma Daggers which are also from Big Hero 6. As for an invention, I want to create an Apple/iOS charging table where you can wirelessly charge a phone, MacBook, or Apple Watch just by placing it on the table.
It's so good to see this video even though I'm late. I first found this channel when I saw you make Glados, and when I saw you making Wheatley I was just so happy because I've started trying to make a very small shabby one. I really hope one day I get to see some more work on GLaDOS. I love what you've done! What you're doing is awesome and I'm so glad you've mad a job out of it (I wish to do so in the future) so you're helping me have hope and realise this stuff may be possible. I've been playing around with the idea of one day when I can afford to create proper ones, trying to make shelves and maybe even a small table inspired by Portal 2's moving atmosphere. Something that just folds out of the floor or wall for your convenience and might be lit up. Maybe you'd have fun trying to make this! Happy New Year for now!
A gadget that I think would be plausible to build is a working Satisfactory: Xeno-Zapper, it has a pretty cool design and helps you if any alien hogs start chasing you down irl
I would love to see some sort of like a suction grappling hook so that you could climb up anything without having to worry about what the hook clings to
Congratulations dude, your content is awesome and you deserve the support, as I said in another comment it would be awesome if you made a Spider-bot from the Spider-Man PS4 game.
Create a ceiling mounted LED panel that moves with you so you wouldn't have to have many lamps for each workstation AND is bicolor meaning it changes temperature to match the time of day and keep your circadian rhythm going even in a windowless workshop.
This is more of a convenience invention; The “issue” is that the on/off switch for my subwoofer is really not accessible, since it’s on the back. The goal is to move it, either over bluetooth or internet. It could be used for old tech to get with the time again. I always love your vids, and hope you’ll love this new career!
My favorite fictional character (tech-wise) is actually K's holographic Wife Joi. She is so lovely and wholesome and even though she is advertised as a somewhat pleasure programm, i believe K made her be so much more and I can really grasp how he loved her in his own way. Seeing her go was so sad and heartbreaking for me :(
I always loved holograms, all of the types. Lightsabers etc. But i always loved holograms that are used to comunicate (if you watched sw you have to know what i'm talking about!) I had to say second thing, gun that can shoot rope with hook on the end, it's used to transport to higher things (yes, it's also from sw) Also, have a nice new year!
Now I'm not sure how possible this invention idea is, but i've been working on some designs of it for a while and i'm thinking of how it could work, but i was thinking of a quick changing animatronic, it can switch between multiple characters in a matter of seconds by changing its outer appearance, items its wearing and its facial features too. I was thinking about using projectors from the inside of the animatronic to make this work but also maybe some custom lights in clothing and custom made outer layers of animatronic skin with lights embedded inside. As I said i'm not too sure how plausible it is to work but I thought it was a cool idea. : )
How about building the TARDIS console. Could be any of the Doctor's various consoles. I chose the console since you probably wouldn't be able to build an entire trans-dimensional time ship (yet), and the TARDIS exterior would probably be more woodworking as opposed to electronics.
@@MrVolt I'm planning on making one out of metal and welding it together for a cosplay, but I'm curious as to how you'd approach it in general. Also, thank you for taking the tie to reply!
My favorite fictional tech would most likely be all of the Ace Combat's drones specifically the Arsenal Bird's shield but that's impossible as of now. A more functional gadget from the series would probably be a RC version of any of the drones in AC like the ADF-01 FALKEN.
1. A needle gun of syringes like Medic's in TF2 would be a cool build. 2. An awesome robotic character that takes the design of Wheatley and the personality of Hal from 2001 Space Odyssey is AUTO from Wall-e. It'd be cool too if he actually could use his wheel as a multi-tool like in the movie. 3. And for an invention, super simple, make a multitool that can open any drink. You have the simple bottle opener and corkscrew but somehow throw on a motor that can unscrew any soda top. For an added challenge have something to open up cartons of juice and milk easily too.
I built a nearly full scale version (not on my channel as a casemod). Had very limited time to work on him, but I love Borderlands. He certainly wouldn't be able to lift anything, but I think I could manage some cable mechanisms to give his arms some animation. Would be great to have this out before the movie :)
Answer for giveaway #2 (and also technically #1), would be Clank from ratchet and clank! Obviously you wouldn't be able to build a walking talking mini humanoid robot, but it'd be cool to have a version that sits on your desk and speaks, blinks etc.
This is obviously impossible to make fully functional, but I want to see a HL:2 Gravity Gun. I just wanna see it's little arms move and maybe vibrate as if it was actually grabbing or throwing something
I think a good idea for a robot would be some sort of back pack with a robotic arm that you could hand stuff for it to store or hold, this would be great so if your on the move and end up needing somthing you dont have to stop and look through the bag but instead could have the arm grab it for you, or hold things still for you too, I could see this being helpful in everday life and in more critical situations like for a emt, so they can save time and have the arm grab somthing for them which could save lives. I had a prototype of this but had to stop making it because some of the parts that i would need were just too expensive and it was taking too much of my time up, mabey you could try to make it.
Build Bender from Futurama at 75% or real scale depending on which is easier. Maybe use a real 6502 to control the servos for his motions ;-) For recreating the voice you could use a program i wrote some time ago. It can do a pretty good recreation. Btw I tried out raid and its a lot of fun. doesnt need many resources either so its the perfect game to play while my pc is compiling stuff.
man that sounds great. futurama fan here. i get the 6502 joke but i guess it could be a nice challenge to use a 6502 and somehow interface it with a modern sbc and some servos. would be a ton of work bc 6502 assembly isnt that easy to learn but it would be true to the show and would be a lot of fun to figure out.
Ugh, Futurama is one of my absolute favorite shows and I would love a Bender! I've thought about this a fair bit. I may stick a RasPi in a giant 6502 case for the design though. As much as I love retrocomputing.
We love you man! If you're taking suggestions I'd love to see a full sized recreation of the robot from the 1998 movie "Lost In Space". The first version, before the kid starts messing with it. You know you want to.
Maybe you could make something Cool that snaps onto the table hanging just underneath that holds a Mac mini and a dock and various other things but this one also rotates so you can get to the back as all the ports are back there on a Mac mini.
I'd love to see wall-E in a building vid... I know it can get quite complicated but I hope you'll find a way... btw I also came here for Glados and stayed for cool projects... whatever u make I'll probably love it
