I've just had a look at mine because the driver's side of the roof wasn't quite closing snugly. Unfortunately there was no adjustment left because the screw was as tight as it would go. So I wrapped a bit of tape round the bottom bar on the adjuster to take up the slack (the one that slides into the slot on the windscreen surround, you can see the bar I mean at 1:43). It seems to have worked a treat.

Congrats on passing! Since I started servicing the E46 3 years ago, I've always been nervous doing the NCT. Doubting myself I guess? 😂 She has sailed through it with no advisories every time. I guess I'm not such a bad mechanic after all! 😳😂😂

That's cool they let you look?!! We can only peek through a window and photography isn't allowed anymore. They have about 12-15 cars on the go at a time so it's like a factory 😂 Cool to watch though! Are you thinking new exhaust? I'd love to get underneath but I'm a bit wary lol I do have the fuel filter to do though so will have to do that once the weather heats up 👍

Yeah the guy testing loved the car and is a little local garage. My son has a unit he stores his cars in he and his friend have just bought a four post ramp to be installed so that will make life working underneath massively easier. Yes on the exhaust. .. I've got a twin exit stainless sitting in the workshop with a stainless manifold as well. I'd like to upgrade all the anti roll bars, drop links and the such but funds don't allow. I'd like to track it this year as well

Just got my 2 and even at full tight on the soft top feels quite lose and locks really easy, just put lastic band round the catch for now, more resistant now 👍

My top doesn’t seem to be sealed properly. With everything latched down I can see a little sun light right at the ends of the rear top trim. Any advice?

Both my rear catches keep opening up by themselves, regardless of their adjustment. That pin you push down in order to release the catch is worn a bit, so I had to apply super glue and baking soda on it in layers you build up a lip that can stop the catch from opening again.

I've not heard of that happening before...do you take the hard top on and off a lot or did you get it with them already worn?

When I got the car the roof held on okay, since then I took it off until recently when winter started and then it started unlatching by itself. The front latches don't have this problem, despite using them everyday with the soft top.

Didn’t realise these were adjustable. Just put my hard top back on for winter & noticed my catches don’t click firmly like they did before. The roof seems secure but I’m not happy with the catches

Yes there is some adjustment. Others have ensured they latch beyond this by packing the catch with a but of aquarium hose! I haven't had to worry about this. Although add I say in the video, a minor amount of turn on the screw has quite a lot of adjustment!

mr2's are problem free cars, if you don't live on an island where you care just rusts and rusts... I have some pictures uploaded to mr2oc / spyderchat, I have 0 rust, 0 issues, since 03 I replaced the antenna interior about the hard top, it requires balancing all 4 of them with as little pressure as possible in each one

Hahaha so living on the coast on an island then.....actually mine is trouble free as well.... just regular inspections as maintenance as you should and keep it clean! Agree on the four clamp situation. Just needs to lightly clamp.

there's not a single day that my car's tail doesn't look like an happy dog, wouldn't buy it or keep it if it wasnt like this. There's a video of a silver one with stud tyres on an ice lake, I can only dream of it!

What do u do if the front latches are not tight enough and there is no adjustment left?

Some people put a section of aquarium air tube over the cylinder part to give more resistance.

If I am getting clunky noises from my hardtop during cornering, would you say the clamps need to be on slightly tighter?

Could well be. The hard top on the side mounts actually sits on top on the bracket with a metal ball so of its a bit loose it could lift slightly, check the tension on all four clamps and also check that the side mounts are tightly bolted to the body, they have a LOT of move in them if not. Toyota thread locked them in.

Same here but if they have been installed non factory and without thread lock they can work loose.

Dont suppose you know where to get new plastic clips (the thing you pushed down), when I got my mr2 home the front drivers side roof catch wasnt closing right, when I noticed the plastic clip was squashed between the roof and the body, the adjuster likely wont move far if theres not a clip on it but I would still like to get another one put on it but im not having much luck finding one.

solution is to 3d print one in abs, that happens when you over tight them

@@DadDiaries Ah cheers mate i'll check that out and see how I get on. like I said its likely no serious, I stay on an Island in Orkney so the roofs never down anyway, and I saw Edmundo's other comment too so my car will likely be fucked with rust before too long. haha cheers guys :))

So I checked the mot history out of curiosity and found it hard to believe you only average 450ish miles a year in your MR2. I usually put on 10k every year, seems a little strange to me that you wouldn’t drive it more often.

There are quite a few people in the community who don't put 1000s of miles on their project car. SpyderLEE is the same..I think he might have driven his less then mine. Nothing strange about it. I do need to drive it more this year!
