Some of these posts are funny. Hell I was in the Airborne during Nam. You wouldn't think an X-Military would be scared like a little girl but Alas ... TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT!!!!! Didn't complete the scan. I will try again but next time with a sedative and bring a designated driver along. Mine was for my shoulder and supposedly an open MRI. The top of that thing was just above my nose and it was supposed to take 30 minutes. I didn't last 30 seconds LOL! BTW that body thing you talked about is what I use to go to sleep and it works every time. I will use it for my next MRI ... that plus a breathing exercise.

Here is a tip that will help you if you ever need to undergo a mri and suffer from claustrophobia or anxiety. Drink the calm supplement or take a magnesium or ashwagandha 30 minutes prior to your scan to assist calm your body and nerves. Apply lavender, chamomile, and peppermint oil to a scarf or eye mask. Put it over your eyes, inhale deeply, and wait for the essential oils to work their magic. You won't remember how long it has been because your body and mind will be so calm.

I really appreciate you sharing your MRI anxiety experiences. I had my first ever brain MRI with and without contrast last week which, I've now learned, will be the first of many and was completely caught off guard by how horribly claustrophobic and panicked I felt. Somehow I (barely) managed to make it through the 50 minute scan with many moments of almost squeezing the call button but now I know that next time, I will definitely need to be better prepared and ask for medication beforehand. All of your advice is very helpful and I hope that your neurologist has good news for you next week! Thank you again for opening up about this.

@@EvenSoItIsWell 2nd time around was bearable. I would have to say that researching more of the process gave me a fighting chance. I had an MRI with contrast conducted and I’m terrified of the potential long term effects of gadolinium retention. How do you cope with this unknown?
@EvenSoItIsWell
@EvenSoItIsWell 3 года назад
Excellent question and concern. I try to follow the science and am wary of anecdotal stories. That said if you have concerns please discuss them with you doctors and in the end you get to say if they use the gadolinium or not, you can always say no for your own peace of mind. There are different types of gadolinium and some are less likely to accumulate. Check out this video by neurologist Dr. Aaron Boster ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CmiAXkKO7wM.html

@@EvenSoItIsWell The valium helped along with wearing a mask over my eyes. The biggest help was listening to music. Not piped into the tube itself but having it emanate from outside the machine.
