I've recently had an MRI done, and it was my first one. Some advice: 1.) Ask for calm drum and bass on their Pandora/music channel they have. It drones out the MRI noise, (and humorously; it's on beat. MRI dropping sick beats 😂) This seriously works, and you really don't hear the noise. You think it's part of the music! 2.) Put a towel/washcloth over eyes. Ask them to put a washcloth over your eyes. This really helps, because your brain confuses that it's time to sleep. Why? It's darker, and you're staying still for a long period of time. Yep, just like a bird. Strange, funny, but it works. As someone who has SEVERE medical anxiety and can get claustrophobic; this made my MRI experience a good one. I nearly fell asleep. 😂

I had an MRI scan once and I enjoyed it. Now I tried to find MRI sounds online but they are different. I've discovered that my MRI machine Toshiba Vantage Atlas must be quieter than others, at least it's marketed this way. It didn't produce high-pitched noises, but rather mostly soothing low frequency rhythms. Any possibility to find sounds of Toshiba Vantage machines?

Being claustrophobic these things are freakin terrifying lol. I’ve had to have two MRIs and hated them both. But I will admit being blindfolded and having music playing in headphones did help a lot with the claustrophobia.

GOD!!! I just got back from an MRI scan... it was like being stuck in a very loud fire alarm!!! My advice would be; when entering, close your eyes, if you open them, have a quick feel where the walls are, as they're not as close as they first seem (about 5-6 inches further away from you), also; make sure your headphones are fully covering your ears (ask them to turn up the music too!!!)... Thirdly; keep your eyes closed, focus on the music (I recommend Enya, which for the leaflet I saw was D6, D7) and either meditate or imagine yourself somewhere out in the open.

My first MRI was a spinal MRI like this. I was like 10 or 11 and had to be rescheduled with anesthesia, because the first time I went in without sedation and got so scared that I was shaking and twitching in the tube and it was messing up the scans lol. These days I really enjoy MRI trips though. I guess when you're a kid everything is scarier.

One time I had an mri I was so nervous. Before (way before) I got it (this year) my mom showed me the sounds it makes. When I heard them, I bursted into tears bc I’m am scared of loud noises. I couldn’t believe it bc I had to do it. The day I was gonna get my mri, I was so scared. In my hospital room, I shook there, with my parents with me. I was SUPER nervous about the anesthesia bc I would get a poke, I had a feeling of intense butterflies in my stomach, I felt sick, and my stomach hurt so bad. That’s how scared I was. When I got wheeled into the mri room, I started crying hard. I was having a full on panic attack. I felt really tingly bc of my anxiety + the panic attack. Before they poked me, they but me to sleep. I was given laughing gas, it only was a matter of seconds before I fell asleep. since I was asleep, I can’t remember anything, not even the sounds, not even the poke! When I woke up, I was in my hospital room again, I felt nauseous like I was gonna throw up. But I didn’t! I said “it’s over already..?” I was still a little groggy at the time. It was quite the experience, but it was worth it. My results came in and my brain was perfectly normal. My parents though I had cerebral palsy. But I didn’t. That was my experience, thank you for reading. :)

Glad you came thru with good results, but I've had numerous MRI scans on my head, and I practically fell asleep! The ear plugs quieted the noise, and even though I am VERY claustrophobic, I just kept my eyes closed and pretended I was not being shoved into a tube. They also always give you a button to press if you feel the need to get out of the scan. I called it the "panic button", to which the medical person laughed and said "No, we like to think of it as the room service button". Anyways, just hate to have someone read your comment and then be scared of having an MRI done. It really is very easy and can actually be relaxing.

I almost fell asleep last year in an open Hitachi(?) machine. The patterns are so relaxing. I just wish I had a better idea of how the image is scanned in 3D space. Like I wish I could see a realistic animation of how the waveforms translate to coordinates. I think I could tell roughly where it was scanning by the sound. I just want to know more about how the waveforms themselves.

I prefer the Siemens machine because they have a kind of mattress. The plate in the Ge in quite hard and make my back hurt even more ( I've chronic back pain) They also did many 6 or 7 of my head before the transplantation because they were afraid of an aneurysm ( they discard you if you have anything else bad because it's a costly operation and they don't do transplantation if you're going to die of something else soon ) the whole exam take 45 min and 1h to 1h30 with coloration. I usually fall asleep in the machine.

Do y’all have a specific program that y’all can do for people with shunts or is that just a normal head scan program
@andy-1998
@andy-1998 2 года назад
Well shunts normally don't have metal (that I know of) I think it mostly depends on if you're shunt is programmable but I don't really know for sure I have a non programmable vp shunt and have had about 3 or 4 mri's no problem
@MRIPETCTSupportEngineer
@MRIPETCTSupportEngineer 2 года назад
Andy makes a great point, shunts are typically made with nonferrous material. MRI scan protocols for patients with a shunt utilize turbo scan techniques such as single shot fast spin echo to reduce image artifact and provide quicker scan times

I have a v p shunt too! Never had a issue with mris Even had a Spectroscopy mri with the titanium stitches still on my skull... ( well surly that day I thought that I'd be pulled by the machine...

Never thought titanium would be affected by an MRI. Usually only ferrous metals are affected.

I’m absolutely terrified of having an MRI 😱. Firstly I’m claustrophobic. Secondly I have a phobia about electrical machinery, and especially the sounds. Finally I’m Autistic and I get triggered by certain sounds quite badly. I can’t avoid having the procedures, but I have to have sedation.

I have had now 4 MRI''s of the head!!! So if you think this is loud try getting it blasted into your ears! Fortunately the machine I had today was roomier and it was shorter, only 30 minutes, the others were one hour! I do not like this at all but it is better than exploratory brain surgery.

I was in the tunnel for the first time three days ago, but I lasted 15 minutes even though I had a stomach magnet in the area for 25 minutes. I had a panic attack in between and a bit of dread of cramped quarters know in advance and do not anticipate before entering the tube. It was horrified at first because it was too narrow quickly and a bit wider in the back, but 50/50 is ok and 100% doesn't make it easier.I'm deaf, so I can't hear any music with headphones and I can't communicate the nurses' speeches through headphones, for example how much time is left and how many minutes have passed 🤷. It is annoying unconsciously. The 60cm diameter can be hard for many people with claustrophobia, as it happened to me. I read and researched that maybe 70 or 80cm diameter eases claustrophobia and tightness for many feeling decreases. Something else should be improved because of the people. Claustrophobia to be taken seriously and how to act.As a deaf person and as a hearing person, it's a little different because the hearing person can hear through headphones through the nurses for minutes, etc., which makes it easier, but the deaf person can't.I realized myself that why would that happen and the most disturbing thing is when the opening is too close to the ceiling, uncomfortable even though there is air conditioning and little lighting and a little width (not very Useful even claustrophobia) therefore 50/50 .

I lasted 10 minutes inside an MRI torture chamber before I had them get me the fuck out of there. I hope I won't have trouble getting in an elevator or plane again. The blaring noises are UNGODLY. I'm going to try Mack's silicone putty earplugs and heavy sedation and try one more time. I'm going to blare this horrible video while laying flat with a sleep mask on my face as training. It's hard to believe that MRIs have been around since the '80s and they are still this horrible.
