Eagerly awaiting the arrival of Two Montana Rail Link SD-45's from Lionel! Should be in any week now . Love seeing the real thing . Amazing work guy. Love your videos .
well Scott, can't say that i'd blame them, the SD40's are real work horses and we still see a number of them here in WV driving on CSX and NS rails. those SD 45's are still my favorites, even at museums.
+AmericanSteelVeins Same Huntington area, CSX runs SD40's in yard service and there are several in the deadline and parts inventory sitting in the Huntington yard. Last time I saw a NS SD40 was in Williamson, WV as part of a coal drag and not the lead unit. CSX does have a sweet little GP30 in the Huntington Yard which is nice to see still working for its keep.
Actually, not all of those SD40s at Huntington Shops are technically part of a deadline. I have a friend that works at Huntington Shops and he says that CSX hasn't decided what they will do with all of them yet. Do you get trackside much? There's quite a few CSX and Amtrak employees that run through Huntington that are railfans.
Superb video! Brings back happy memories of a visit to the USA. SD45s are very impressive locos and in my opinion very neat looking machines compared with some modern stuff.
I've never seen a train that long here in the eastern states of Australia. There are possibly some that length in West Australia up in the iron ore mining region.
This is awesome and magnificent with brilliant scenery going up the mountain! Fantastic job in filming this video! It's a shame that a lot of SD45's and GP-38's have been pulled out of service to be replaced by the newer and quieter locomotives. I agree with Mr. Drum. to me, these older locomotives will always be the beasts of the rails. This is especially true when they are climbing uphill! Superb once again!
Nice to have you back Scott! Beautiful shots as usual sir! I didn't know they still ran SD45's due to their fuel usage, but these look in top condition so I assume they've been rebuilt? I see the last ACe'[ needs a bit of love..LOL I will send you a message re my visit in May!! Thanks for the great video mate. Cheers Gregg
FishplateFilms Gregg, 12 of the MRL SD45's have been leased by BNSF due to a short-term lack of motive power. BNSF have very large orders with GE for new locos, so these SD45's will only be around for a short while before being sent back and likely mothballed or even scrapped. Come see!
