Betty’s personality is not the problem at all. It’s the fact that she was the only one who was actually a mother and used to be happily married. She just made a mistake thinking that her inner unhappiness was caused by her marriage. Therefore she could not relate to the men hating harpies and lesbians of the “movement.” When she tried to point out to them that she wasn’t against men and they shouldn’t take that position either she was ostracized. Her second book was all about her change of heart.
The reason Steinem did not debate Schlafly is her vast and complete vacuousness and superficiality on any of this. She was the bimbo of the movement. A front for the mostly lesbian agenda. She never went anywhere without a man for goodness sake!
