Robin is awesome but to me, this is not my memory of Robin. My memory of Robin is his stand up in NY. That was his best performance ever. RIP Robin Williams.
"Mr. Hillard, do you consider yourself humorous?" "I used to. There was a time when I found myself funny, but today you have proven me wrong. Thank you." Best comeback ever.
I heard of a girl who made it to the final round of auditions because she listed a guinea pig impression under her special skills and the judges wanted to see it.
The hot dog comes out of no where and gets me every time. I was 4 when my parents divorced, same year this movie came out, and it really hit me hard. Robin Williams was like my second father. RIP.
I feel your pain. My parents divorced in 2003 when I was barely thirteen and that was when I reached puberty and when one person's parents divorce during that time in anyone's life, it doesn't make it any easier. But watching this film was relatable in some or form. Plus I agree Robin Williams is super funny. People said a lot of good about him as a person. He was both a blessing and gem.
0:35 - 1:32 Anne Haney was brilliant in this scene. Totally professional. It must had been difficult for her trying not to laugh when filming the bits when Robin did the voices. RIP Anne and Robin.
@@serfer1983 Yeah, they had to film Anne from the back because she probably couldn't resist smiling at those voices, and that would be breaking character if they showed it.
Robin said in an interview that during the filming of this scene the entire crew was literally rolling in laughter but Annie kept the same stone cold look on her face the whole time
This lady deserves an award for keeping a straight face during this scene because I would not be able to sit across from Robin Williams being that hilarious
Or the best kind of straight man. This woman played opposite Robin Williams and Jim Carrey and kept a straight face with both. That kind of talent is rare.
“I need to be with my children. Just tell me what to do.” A great deal of pathos in that line after the humorous build up. Robin looked devastated at the conclusion of this scene as his character knew full well he did not hold the strings to achieving his goal.
+Grace Stenberg Actually, according to the DVD commentary done by the director Chris Columbus, while the camera crew was falling over laughing by Robin's acting, the actress playing Mrs Sellner sat there stone-faced. Talk about iron-will
In order: A German, an evangelist, a martian, a Russian, a monster, Marx brothers, Sean Connery, a salesman, Ronald Reagan, Walter Brennan, Humphrey Bogart, Pudgy the parrot and a hotdog. You're welcome!
Can you imagine the likely dozens of clips that DIDN'T make the theatrical cut?---and how hilarious most of them must be cus they were perhaps too inappropriate for a kid movie?
Oh, by the way. Do you have any special skills? Daniel: Oh, yes, I do. I do voices. Mrs. Sellner: What do you mean, you do voices? Daniel: [German accent] Well, I do voices. Daniel: [as evangelist] Yes! Daniel: [as martian] We've come to this planet looking for intelligent life. Oops, we made a mistake. Daniel: [as Russian immigrant] Happy to be in America. Don't ask for a green card. Daniel: [as monster] I want you in the worst way. Daniel: [as Groucho Marx] Well this is certainly a rough meeting and it's not going very well for me, I'll tell you that. [as Chico Marx] Daniel: Hey boss, give her a chance. She's gonna loosen up any moment. Daniel: [as Sean Connery] Look at me right now, Moneypenny, I want to undo that bow and get to know you. Daniel: [as a used-car salesman] I'll be crazy to make a deal with you! Daniel: [as Ronald Reagan] Nancy and I are still looking for the other half of my head. Daniel: [as Walter Brennan] This is it! Yes, I'm doing it! I'm sitting on a gold mine! Daniel: [as Humphrey Bogart] Don't make me smack you, sweetheart. I'll do it. Daniel: [as Pudgie] Figaro! Daniel: [normal voice] I do a great impression of a hot dog. [leans back straight, trying to keep a straight face] Mrs. Sellner: Mr. Hillard, do you consider yourself humorous? Daniel: I used to. There was a time when I found myself funny, but today you have proven me wrong. Thank you.
This scene is both hilarious and heart wrenching. The voices are hysterically funny and then at the end he begs for a chance to keep his children in his life. This movie feels all the feels.
I had the ultimate pleasure of meeting & shaking the hand of this wonderful, kind hearted man years ago on my one only work as a movie extra. The world is a little less funny & colder without him !!
A few weeks ago my mom called and asked what I was doing and for some reason I put on my Reagan voice and said "Nancy and I are still looking for the other half of my head" and we both had a good laugh. Still one of my favorite movies and actors. Thanks for all the smiles Robin.
I've used that 'Well I'll put on a chicken' line so many times if my friends are coming over and most of them have no idea where it's from. I usually tell them our friendship is on probation until they go watch Mrs. Doubtfire to find out.
You know when you think about it she really is a terrific actress. Only an Academy grade actress could sit there while Robin Williams is doing what he does best, and not crack a smile. Though she probably did between takes.
+Gilkana Molina I like it too. During the end of my school year in the mid 90s (when this movie went in theaters) all of us in the classroom and the teacher were talking about this movie and we all laughed at the hot dog impression.
+Lizzie Phantomhive As much as I love this scene and this movie, what Robin says from 1:25-1:31 is really sad if you tie it in to his death. He might have felt this at some point in his acting career.
ANTHONY A no, what would be the point? He killed himself because he only had a few years to live and he would spend those few years into a vegetable. He had dementia. He would probably dead right now if he was still alive. I'm not into suicide, but I think his reasoning was sound.
If only a 5 or an 8 could be rolled, we could have Robin Williams back. Wishful thinking, really, which never really hurt anyone. Robin Williams? You are deeply missed. Your great comedics, generosity, and even your heart were bigger than a lot of things. RIP, Robin Williams.
She was smilling the whole time! That's why i think they filmed it from her back to hide her expressions.I mean who could keep a straight face while looking at those impressions.
R.I.P. Anne Haney (Mrs. Sellner), died 26th May, 2001, aged 67. R.I.P. Robin Williams (Daniel Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire), died 11th August, 2014, aged 63.
In retrospect, it is no wonder that I resonated with this film. Growing up with a father that was not interested, it is very powerful watching Daniel fight to be in his children’s lives. Must be nice!
you have to give credit to that woman. to sit across from Robin Williams just riffing and not just keep from laughing, but to be completely stone-faced, not even blink, she's an incredible actress!!
One of the many great things about this movie is that there are several moments where they set it up perfectly for Robin Williams to just do his thing for awhile and riff and be hilarious.
