That is funny. Here's a fun fact, Lou and him have been in a few films together. Lou was also in Nine Months, Jack, and Mork & Mindy with Robin. So really the question is, did Launchpad Mcquack ask a doctor, a child in an adult body, and an alien why he improvised?
@@thaitemple1807 Daniel, listen to me; this section is costing at the studio thousands of dollars;now, if you want to page it, you have to stay to the script ;if you want to play ghandi, well, doing it on somebody else. P. S sorry for my bad English
@@munimathbypeterfelton6251 That's very funny. Where the hell are you going? Hey listen, buddy, I'll tell you something, if you leave, you're not getting back in. I'm not taking any crap from you, pal.
Robin Williams the god of many voice impersonations and extreme laughs forever! I agree on his disapproval of the smoking scene in the cartoon. Can't believe the track reader shrugged it off and demanded Daniel act like it's nothing. I don't blame him for quitting because the the staff smoke as well.
I don't blame him for quitting either, but to the track reader's credit, Daniel was hired to do a job. Voice actors don't always agree with content in a show, but if you audition for the part and are hired you're expected to do the work provided. Like the guy said the studio was spending thousands of dollars for that session, so he was just trying to get the recording finished. I totally agree with him being against the content and quitting however, but that poor guy was just trying to get the session finished on time so that he wouldn't lose HIS job :P.
Some of my favorite cartoons (Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy) had hidden dark and sexual humor, drug references, etc. Did I notice this as a kid? No, not at all. And I understood cigs were bed for you from a young age. Cartoons can be but don't have to be educational materials or the pinnacles of politically correct virtues. Watch some of the early Spongebob episodes. Plenty of sexual innuendo hidden throughout. Hell, if he wants to complain, why not whine at all the beer ads you watch during any football game.
I, too, approve Robin Williams disapproval of smoking. He did had a point at the time because lot cartoons promote smoking. Take Pinocchio and 101 Dalmatians for example. Robin Williams’ comedy will live on forever in our hearts. God, rest his soul.
Well, to be fair, the context is a bird about to be executed getting a last cigarette. Lying or omitting the truth that the nicotine in cigarettes can be pleasurable/stimulating is also harmful to kids, as they will not be prepared to understand smoking's dangerous allure.
I feel like Williams wanted this scene in the movie specifically to show the kind of crap he had to deal with, with Disney the year prior when doing the voice of Genie in Aladdin.
They won't automatically want to smoke just because they see it happening in a cartoon. Daniel was really overthinking things here. It's up to the parents to teach their children that smoking is bad for you. The cartoon was simply meant to keep them entertained. While it is certainly to Daniel's credit that he was concerned about it, it wasn't worth quitting his job for.

While Daniel (Williams' character) did have a point, I feel like if he had any objections to the content, he should have brought them up with Lou a little sooner, BEFORE they had him in the recording studio. This was REALLY short notice for him to pull that.
1:52: The guy on the far left is Raja Gosnell, this movie's editor and also the director of Home Alone 3, Big Momma's House, Scooby Doo (2002), its sequel, The Smurfs (2011) and its sequel among others.
Disneyfan 17 I'm with you on that, I think I'd rather do characters that are drawn too. Another thing if I was do to it I'd play a character that's sweet and kind, not a bad guy
You could start yourself by uploading your own clips in your account. unless you mean you just want someone to hand you an opportunity and slap you on a famous cartoon then na your gonna need to start somewhere buddy.
RIP Robin Williams, the king of voice impressions and immense laughs, you are missed every day🙏🙏 By the way, Daniel was completely in the right in this scene! This was the 90s, and he knew promoting smoking in a CARTOON OF ALL THINGS is setting a terrible example for kids. And Lou didn't care that subjecting kids to that kind of thing is disastrous for their development! If I were in Daniel's situation, I would've quit too.
I can't believe Miranda considered Daniel as unreliable he was clearly rite 2 walk out on his job here. In my opinion, Miranda was just work-obsessed and jealous of how her husband gets 2 have fun at his job and she doesn't. Had Daniel told Miranda about his morally rite decision their divorce probably woulda never happened and they'd be a happy family together.
I think the situation is a little more complicated than that. While Daniel of course had a really valid point, I feel like if he had any objections to the source material, he should have talked to Lou about them a little earlier. To wait until he was in the recording studio before voicing his concerns is REALLY short notice.
@@Adamguy2003 Actually, I think Daniel tried talking to Lou beforehand, but Lou just wouldn't listen. During the argument, Daniel is TRYING to explain "It's wrong to encourage kids to smoke", and Lou keeps responding "STICK TO THE SCRIPT".
R.I.P. Robin Williams The Guy Who Played the ADR Director Lou That’s the same Guy Who Played Launchpad McQuack from DuckTales and Darkwing Duck who Daniel Couldn’t stand becuase he was a Jerk For the voice acting studio when He Told Him To Piss off Lou when He Quits that Job
I'd have divorced him too. 3 kids and a wife to feed and he quits a lucrative job with a temper tantrum. Very irresponsible. No house chores either. A drone. Goodbye.
As far as I know, actors never record their lines with completed animation. So I have to wonder if Daniel replaced another actor and had to re-record all the lines 🤷♀️
In the DVD audio commentary Columbus actually said this isn't how the voice-over process works, but they still used it for the movie. I think the fact they already had the animation and used it was merely just to emphasize Daniel's career before the rest of the movie
@@JTCurtisMusic Actually, you know what? Given that the other sound elements (sound fx and music) are already in place, I think I know what Daniel is doing: he's redubbing an old cartoon for reruns. You might remember they did that with Frosty the Snowman after its first airing.
Nor would the antagonist either have hands would have paws instead and certainly wouldn't be able to put a cig in Pudgies mouth either haha Is about creating a connection of some sort to the character they are, did this in the CG work I did as well at University
Luis Balderrama this is no different from the cartoons I watched as a kid-smoking, characters having anvils dropped on them, being blown up, falling off a cliff, male characters cross dressing, drinking-at least the adult themes were mild
2:13 DANIEL: "Then I've got to do what I've got to do." LOU: "That's very funny. Where the hell are you goin'? Hey listen, buddy, I'll tell something. If you leave, you're not coming back in. I'm not taking any crap from you, pal."
@@completeandabsolutenerd No one’s insulting Robin Williams. It’s just that, in real life, you would generally have the voices done before animating the character. Of course, Daniel recording over storyboards doesn’t look as cool to the audience, so they took some artistic liberties with this scene. We’ll just have to assume he’s redubbing a finished cartoon, which happens from time to time. Perhaps the audio was beyond restoration or it was a foreign language or some behind-the-scenes beef with the previous actor(s).
@@doodelli Well, actually, the "foreign language" possibility is ruled out, because the lip-sync is clearly English. But yeah, I think Daniel was either doing post-production looping for touch-ups (I mean, animation voice-overs do touch-ups all the time!), or maybe he replaced another actor. Although the latter seems more likely, since at 1:57, Lou says the session is costing the studio thousands of dollars, and hints that they're on a deadline. But yeah, voices are done before animation, but obviously, they reversed things purely to pave the way for the argument to lead to Daniel quitting.
I wonder how many voice actors/actress would do the same as Daniel did because they believe that smoking should NOT be promoted to the youth of Americans? Or in my case, the youth of Canadians.
Wayne Hoxit From what I remember (I could be wrong) in the movie he didn't like that in the cartoon he was voicing the little bird started smoking because it was supposed to be a kids show. And I think the job was keeping him from spending time with his kids so I think he quit for those reasons, 1. Inappropriate cartoon he didn't support 2. Family was more important to him than a job
0:33 😂😂😂 I always recite this when I think of Robin Williams from this movie. “A cup of garlic, a twist of parakeet; eat your heart out Julia Child”!! “Excuse me but isn’t it customary for the jailbird to get one telephone call?”
The way robin williams as daniel voicing a *character* named pudgy says, "Yipe, on *second* thought, YAAAAAIPE!!!" And *before* he walks out on his boss lou (as now *former* of course) when robin w. as daniel decides to quit, it be a bit *funnier* if he said to lou, "Well, in the *words* of porky pig, 'fu-fu-fu, fu-fu-fu-fu, f**k off lou.' " I kind of died at **0:19** *and* at 2:29 anyway.😂
@@jessecantu4284 That's Hollywood for you. In the South Park movieThey were told if they said 400 curse words the film will get an NC17 rating so the filmmakers made certain that they never went above 399.

What happened to Stu after he almost choked to death and Mrs. Doubtfire was exposed? Did Miranda carry on seeing him or was he like "Screw this, I'm outta here. And just as I was getting used to being around kids too."?
Believe it or not, I can see where both Daniel and Lou are coming from. On Daniel's side of things, for a then- modern kids' cartoon to promote smoking that blatantly is of course wrong. On Lou's side, this is pretty freaking short notice for Daniel to raise objections over the subject matter. He had to have gotten and read a copy of the script well in advance, yet he apparently didn't bother to talk to Lou about his concerns over the smoking scene until he was right in the recording studio?
Maybe if this were like the 30s or 40s, voice actors wouldn't be trying to send a positive message about the dangers of smoking in their cartoons. But this is the 90s and you don't see that much smoking in 90s cartoons and some of them have a positive message about the dangers of smoking. Maybe lou should have let daniel ad libbed his lines at the end of that episode so maybe they won't get sued because a child may smoke because he saw pudgy doing it. 😅
