I know he's a voice actor but the fact that she can't recognize any of his impressions or his voice also speaks volumes of how much their marriage was strained.
@@ida305 that too lol but considering how much detail goes into a production, I'm sure this was a thought the director or one of the actors would think about at some point while making this.
It's pretty smart on both sides, him not using his usual speech pattern/accent which makes it more difficult for people to recognize a voice over the phone but also the likelihood that she spent a lot of time tuning out his goofier impression moments leading up to their seperation.
I used to think he was just messing with her when I was a kid but then I realized he was being strategic by making the other potential candidates seem like absolute idiots so that when he calls in as Mrs Doubtfire it makes Miranda even that much more likely to be impressed.
Not only that, he knew he had to have more than one person call because she put this ad in a newspaper. The idea that only 1 person would call would make her very suspicious. He wanted her to not only be impressed but make her believe it.
@@orangefox1231 Also, to make her choose the Mrs. Doubtfire character out of desperation. Otherwise Miranda would have only made her a candidate, and it would have forced Daniel to come up with other likable characters, complicating the process. By making the others sound horrible, it made Miranda want to go with ANYONE decent.
Lmfao yo i used to think the same thing like he was just fucking around for fun🤣🤣 but then he has to make the calls because he changed the phone# on Mirandas ad.
@@chibilaichi - He wasn’t just pranking. He was setting it up strategically to make one caller seem like the best candidate. Don’t forget he changed the number in her ad, so he had to include a few bad applicants. Just one phone call would’ve been more suspicious. That gave “Mrs.Doubtfire” the best shot at being hired.
Dude, I'm a writer and I have had pages and pages of material for characters, but no name. Depends how your creativity runs - plus, hos lack of forethought was one of his ex's issues with him, so this may have been them showing an example of this?
I used to call my much older sister and say this to her as an opener when I was still a kid. She has four kids. They're adults now, two of them with their own children. This was before cell phones or even caller ID. So it would make her laugh. We had fun. Hehe.
You can tell that Robin Williams was pretty much what MADE this movie. Because without him, the premise for the film and all of its glaring rammifications, would probably be all the more noticable.
That’s why they should never ever go anywhere a remake or sequel of this. Just stay well away because Robin Williams was one-of-a-kind and it just wouldn’t work
@@matthewmcalister2165 I mean, there is a person who can do a really good impression of the man, but other than some kind of biographical type stuff, it really should remain untouched, otherwise.
@@thegreatandpowerfuldc5977 I’m not transphobic thank you. One of my best friends just went through gender reassignment. I’m stating that many people today can’t take a joke. Like apparently you.
Yes! Its how they deliver these lines! And the facial expressions. Sally nails these moments of shock and disgust at some of the “people that have called her for the job”. Especially the look she gives when asking him who was his previous employer. Lol!
Conveniently there was a newspaper on Daniel’s bed, with the headline, POLICE DOUBT FIRE WAS ACCIDENTAL. I guess he was reading it at the time. Lucky that he was, or Miranda would be wondering why the prospective nanny couldn’t remember her name! That would have roused suspicion.
Daniel's expression when she reads the address at 2:39 is something. That split second of bittersweet contentment at being invited back into his own home.
"I was in a band. Severe Tyre Damage." Cracks me up so much every single time, I have no idea why. It just makes me giggle. Right now, I'm not feeling too great with a banging headache and this has just perked me up.
I was 14 when I saw this movie in the theatre. I was sitting next to my grandmother. During all these fake calls, she was laughing constantly, especially the part where "Ill get the hose!" I treasure that memory. She lived to be 90, well into my adulthood, old enough for me to get to understand her as an adult. I treasure that too.
Fun Fact: Robin Williams did 10 of these, but they ending going up just four. I hope one day Director Chris Columbus release the ones cut to the public because these calls were brilliant.
"I am job." "Do you speak english?" "I am job." "I'm sorry, the position has been filled." Man, this movie was a riot. A shame the sequel never saw the light of day because of Robin Williams's death in 2014. :(
That's false because Robin Williams mentioned it's hard to come up with the sequel script because of the ending in the first one where he reveals he was doubtfire.
God I'm so lucky that RU-vid exists. I haven't watched this movie in nearly a decade and this scene just popped into my head and I felt like watching it. Grateful I could.
Yeah, it was shocking when I learned of his death. The other day when I was watching the opening credits to Mork and Mindy (which I watched on Nick at Nite in 1991 while I lived in Rochester, NY), I burst into tears. Robin Williams was pretty damn funny being Mork from Ork. I also remember Robin Williams being on an episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway? in 2000. Look up "Robin Williams Whose Line" if you don't believe me.
This was one of the movies I watched as a kid when it first came out and after seeing the entire makeup scene, was a huge defining moment in my career choice of wanting to do SFX makeup. 5 years ago I got the opportunity to create a Mrs Doubtfire makeup to show off at a makeup convention, it was 20 years to the day I presented that makeup since I’d watched Mrs Doubtfire for the first time. Thank you Robin for being absolutely amazing. You’re missed every day.
Agreed that old battle ox Miranda Hilliard you didn’t even care to pay attention to what he did in his line of work otherwise she should’ve known that he was capable of changing his voice to prank call her and annoy her 🤐…
@@patriottroll1764 It’s not transphobic. Being transphobic is whenever you openly hurt and discriminate against trans people, this was obviously for joking purposes so it’s not lmfak
Robin Williams was a both a blessing and gem to the world. All them voices he does was not only incredible yet surprising at how good he was but also was super funny. I used to be able to do so many voices like him but when I got older, I got rusty. I probably can't do like him but I'm able to do some voices.
I'll have to admit. The voice in the beginning was one heck of a convincing female voice. Also 0:41 That will never get old. 😂 Rest in peace Robin Williams. No one will ever match your talent.
Robin Williams is so cute and handsome when he's doing the phone interview as Mrs. Doubtfire. That's part of what makes Mrs. Doubtfire's character so charming. The way he uses sweet words and says "showtime" and chuckles after he hangs up the phone flatters me 😍❤ RIP Robin Williams. Your sweet grandmotherly voice for Mrs. Doubtfire will be missed.
Williams was known for his excellent improv skills. We might have been a single hand movement away from having a blockbuster film called “Mrs Policedoubt” 😂😂😂😂
@@rudolfbriski4853 but without pay phones today, he'd have to hope local businesses would allow him to use their phone. And the stuff he's saying in the video would get their attention
You mean that's the same actress who played aunt may in the amazing spider man 1 and 2 (the sandlot reference specifically when smalls says you mean thats the same guy)
