This was not his last game. He played the Indonesia Open the following week and lost to Momota in the semis, and that was his last game. He experienced discomfort in his throat that entire tournament, but it was only after his loss to Momota that he learned the bad news about his health.

Not straight set, but hard set because it needed 71 minutes to finish only a couple of sets instead of 3 sets. Maybe this match is the most breathtaking one. You see, the duration of badminton shot in this match is too tough

His records are indeed amazing. It's so unfortunate that he hasn't had an Olympic gold or a World Championship title. He's been so tantalizingly close to winning in some those matches, I beleive.

In team sports, you can be excused for not winning "the big one" for obvious reasons. There's no way around it for individual athletes. Their place in the GOAT conversation will depend on how many major titles they've won - in the case of badminton, Olympic and World Championship gold medals. It must be said though that winning the big one in badminton is much more difficult than in tennis because of the lack of opportunities. I can't believe LCW would have zero major titles if there were 4 "majors" per year instead of one.

Messi has 4 CL titles, whereas Lee does not even have one world championship title lol.

LCW has won more international titles than any other player. He was the world number one for probably more than 400 weeks, in spite of being banned for some time for negligence. No one could beat that and no one will for a long time. The world ranking is arguably a more complete and balanced metric in measuring a badminton player's greatness. I know LD has a higher head-to-head winning, but hey, just look at their records against Axelsen. LCW:VA=11:3. LD:VA=3:4. So I guess it is merely a matter of perspective with regard to who the real G.O.A.T. is.

I think if he can beat cancer he should take some extra time to rest his body and concentrate on major competitions like LD did after 2012. He still can compete for world championship title next year. He should learn from great sportsmen like Lin Dan and Roger Federer, age would not be as much an obstacle as long as he has a good strategy in place

WTF are you talking about? I mean, LCW is a great athlete for sure, but he has not even won one World Championship in his long career and LCW also didn't shine until age 25. Momota had been even World no.2 at age 21 before suspension from Japan for 2 years. And LCW has only won Momota once in final in year 2018 - and Momota was still just back to the high level tournament not long in 2018. And in fact, Momota in 2018 still made more unforced errors compared to his magnificent defense, skills and accuracy in 2019. Go and watch LCW at age 23 (nobody knew who was LCW when LCW was 23. During those years, it was Lin Dan and Taufik rivalry). LCW at age 23 was nowhere near Momota's talent. Momota's talent is matching LD"s talent and also Taufik's talent as they three shine from early young age. LCW was catching up from age 25 around near Olympic 2008 - and since then he had been even better after he continues aging as he's really a very hardworking player. But, citing this comment is an insult to both LCW and Momota. Momota deserves his achievement for a remarkable consistency.
