20:30 MCU-Jinn is different from Islamic-Jinn, although the former is influenced by the latter. Here is a very quick summary of the Jinn/Djinn (according to Islam): 1. Race of unseen beings made of smokeless fire created before Humans (by contrast: Humans → clay, Angels → light/noor) 2. Live amongst us 3. Has free choice → Can be Good/Bad → Will be judged on day-of-judgement → heaven/hell 4. Evil jinn → devils/demons, including Satan (Iblees) 5. Evil Jinn possession ↔ exorcism

The point in history they keep referencing is called The Partition of India. In 1858, British Rule was established in India. When Britain went to war with Germany in 1939, they used the Indians as part of their military. During the Second World War, Britain offered the country independence once the war was over. But there was tension between Hindus and Muslims in the country, and so instead of granting India total independence, it would be split into separate states. It was supposed to happen in 1948, but when Lord Mountbatten was declared viceroy of India, he brought forward the date to 1947. He divided “British India” into three separate states: India, West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now known as Bangladesh). On August 14th & 15th 1947, this partition of nations - drawn up by British lawyer Cyril Radcliffe, who had never visited the counties before, on dated maps and in just five weeks - led to riots and it made an estimated 12 million people refugees, the largest forced migration of people in history that wasn’t due to war or famine. The final trains out of the country before the "borders" take effect are what we see at the end of this episode.
@R-Ash28
@R-Ash28 2 года назад
just a correction: the British divided into two states, India and Pakistan. Pakistan had two wings, one in the East and one in the West - India was in the middle of both wings. East Pakistan became the third state, Bangladesh in 1971 after a bloody civil war. the rest is accurate. the riots and the refugee crisis were not just about one day or night, it lasted for months before 14th-15th August and after as well.
@zaeem2893
@zaeem2893 2 года назад
One point to add: Congress was fighting for a United India. However it were the minority Muslims who wanted a separate state rather fought for it tooth and nail. Muslim League had to struggle for decades to make this idea a true cause. Yes, the British left a mess. The way they created the borders, unsettled Kashmir, the division of resources. The discord was fueled by them. But to say that they just divided it just by seeing tension is untrue. It was a hard_fought independence. And what's happening today in Kashmir and in general in India; over 100k Kashmiris killed by State in 30years and lynchings of Muslims happening in Indian streets every week is as simple and open an example of what Muslims faced then. They weren't escaping the British on those trains rather the extremist Hindus who believed in racial purity and saw Muslims as invaders and to this day its the cause with organizations like RSS & BJP leading the way. I hope there's peace, trade and travel between the two countries however seems a far cry when people who believe in racial purity are now controlling a country of over a billion.

trains were prime targets of attacks at stations... imagine having a train stuffed full of people on top and inside and then a mob of people with torches and spears just throws fire and stabs everyone inside the train from the windows and doors.., imagine being inside a train that was being attacked like that and having to survive by lying under a corpse... reaching a new city with nothing to your name and living like a refugee... all for the promise of freedom that someone else sold you.... The partition was the worst shit show in history and you can't even count the number of bodies that dropped in that tragedy... how many women were raped... I have heard stories of how children were snatched from mothers and literally stuck to points of spears and waved around like trophies as the mothers themselves were sexually assaulted and their husbands murdered in front of them... the partition of india and pakistan has to be one of the most violent and bloodiest migrations in the history of humanity

Also, the final scene reminds me of Gone With the Wind when there is a crane shot to show the magnitude of troupes who are injured. With due respect , I'd like to address something here. 🙏 British leaved us in a mess but they didn't just freely divide Indian Subcontinent (not a state then). Infact Indian subcontinent itself was never a thing, it only became a a thing under borders defined by British. We, Muslims minority in India struggled to get a separate Independent state for ourselves i.e. Pakistan. Cause there was an extremist Supremacist ideology of racial purity (RSS), taking flight in India and that's exactly those Muslims in India were escaping from in trains and caravans, Muslim genocide by the majority extremist Hindus. Here's a catch, Gandhi himself was a victim of the same ideology for being soft on Muslims. Just read the final speech of the person who murdered him and is cherished as a hero millions of Indians. And to prove this extremism all you need to do is search the state of Muslims in "current" India, Muslim lynchings almost every week. They are living as second class citizens. Yes, the British messed us up and with bowing seeds of enmity like an unsettled Kashmir. And also look up Kashmir, they are as persecuted a community as Palestinians but since India is a market of over a Billion for west, you seldom see that on mainstream media. And I am not hate preaching against Hindus, I am just stating simple facts. There are sane hindus. But right now BJP and RSS' fascist ideology has taken over India. What happened on 27th Feb 2019 and our ex-PM's (Imran Khan's) repititive approach for dialogue has been brushed aside over and over. As for a history class on Kashmir and Hitler esque racial fascism in India just listen to Imran Khan's UN speech 2019 and then double check all of it via unbiased sources. Just dig out the figures of Kashmiri Muslims murdered by Indian state in last 30 years, its around 100k ffs. Honestly if they were gonna whitewash all of that they'd have better not dig into partition philosophy. Apart from this historical inaccuracy to cater to a huge Indian audience, I am loving everything about the show. The Pakistani/Muslim representation is the most genuine I have seen in Hollywood ever, and I am a big Hollywood nerd.

I never understood because I wasnt in any wars, myself. she never told us (even when we tried to help), but Im beginning to understand the baggage they carry.

I love the history behind all of this. As someone raised in America, I had never heard about but always wondered about the rift between India and Pakistan. This show is amazing at giving people a look at cultures and history that a lot of people otherwise would know nothing about. This is easily my favorite Marvel show yet.

The more I watch this show, the more I fall in love with everyone and everything. As someone who doesn't follow the Muslim religion and is new to watching the Pakistani experience, this show (much like Moon Knight) has opened my eyes to a different way of life than I expected. Basically, it's a new and old realm of the MCU that I'm watching unfold in front of my eyes. The acting is, dare I say, God-tier. Plus, the revelations throughout this episode shocked me. The cosmology surrounding the bangle and the Noor dimension is fascinating. Plus, seeing the MCU version of the Partition was sad to watch. I genuinely have no idea what is in store for the last 2 episodes of the show.

Sup guys! Just binged your recap of this show after seeing a Reddit suggestion. Firstly - subscribed. Secondly, there’s so much love and attention to this show! And I totally love that you guys love it too! Hector, man you want to check out Lahore, let me know. Having been born and raised in the States and the moved over there for school, there parts of the “Pakistani-American” culture that I’ve missed. But it’s nice to see them come back to the roots and entrench themselves in typical conversations I have with my family and friends. The amount of history that took place during Partition could fill hundreds of libraries, and then there was the civil war when West and East Pakistan split, the latter becoming Bangladesh. It’s not easy to rediscover some of this history, but I swear it would make for compelling reading. Additionally, literally before the show came out I theorized that Kamala could consider the powers to be of Djinn origin, since that’s like the Pakistani go-to for supernatural situations. Heck, a lot of brown folks have Djinn stories (I have a Djinn story). Long and short, Djinn can be good or bad. Islamically, instead of a fallen angel, Ibliss (aka Shaytan aka Satan) is a Djinn, one who was highly exalted before his fall from grace, as an example. By the literature they live on a different plane of existence but can choose to be seen in our reality (hence the name, Unseen). But they could assume the appearance of humans, and even live in this reality and have families with humans. It’s really interesting how they wove that cultural aspect into the show. Speaking of culture, Pakistani-American, Muslim American, and Pakistani cultures are each getting a chance to shine, and I’m here for it. Music and set dressing has been on point (even though they went to Thailand for filming abroad, according to something Iman said). I think South Asian and Latin food could jive together really well - in fact I think there’s like a Spanish version of a Donor Kebab. But I’m excited to see how you guys like the rest of the show and how it plays out. Cheers to you guys✌️

As a Pakistani my Grandmother told me the situation of the partition she was 12 years old at that time and she witnessed that horrible time she used to tell me the trains were full of blood .1947 would be the nightmare of our grandmother's and father's( India and Pakistan)

Important distinction, she is not a djinn. The thor comment is basically similar to the "magic is just science we dont understand yet", essentially they dont know what they are so use religious/cultural beliefs to label her as a djinn. And yes, djinn are similar to humans in that there are good and bad ones, but importantly djinns are something we as Muslims believe in and they are not visible to humans, Also Muslim people (her community) asking for help from a djinn would be very problematic.

No they are Djinn kamala is a hybrid of Djinn and humans. Sort of like a bridge between the two dimensions.

@@Saif_theFox No, she's not djinn, at least not the one described in Isalm. Waleed clarified that this same episode.

And it's an important explanation. Why did no one know about Wenwu? Why don't we have any record of what he's done? Reasons! Why were super unsecretive interdimensional aliens not remarked upon? They were it's just people saw them and their actions and went "yup looks like djinn". I mean I can argue the ten rings and Wenwu, I want a no prize, but for people not into that no prize lifestyle it can feel like a pothole when you try and retcon in something that feels like it should have been mentioned before.

In Islamic and pre-Islamic mythology Jinn are neither innately evil nor innately good. They have free will like humans and are accountable for their deeds. So seeing as these clandestines have been exiled from the Noor dimension it stands to reason that they were exiled by the good clandestines in that dimension. And maybe Aisha is one of the good ones.

I am loving this series. One thing I don't know if you guys picked up on in regards to the Djinn discussion. Waleed was saying earlier in the episode that Kamala wasn't a literal Djinn as would be described in Islamic texts. He was saying that people in his culture would use the word Djinn as a term to label someone who is unusual or with unexplained abilities. The example he gave was Thor showing up in the Himilayas would be called a Djinn. Another example I heard from Neebz over at "Salaam Nerds", who is a Pakistani American man. He said that his mother jokingly calls David Blaine a Djinn because of his "magic". I think the same thing is happening with the Clandestines and Aisha's family line. Najima even said in Episode three that they have been called many names over the years. I think we'll get an official name for them by the end. Perhaps Aisha will tell Kamala. Maybe they are related to the Kree somehow. A Kree was certainly wearing the bangle before. Hopefully we get some answers next week.

Almost all of the general Jersey streets is downtown Atl. Most of Karachi is actually Thailand! Some of next episode's partition 1947 is Thailand and some is actually just outside of Atlanta! Edit: Oh, and the place where they end the fight right before they go to 1947... that was a set created inside an abandoned mall- the same mall used as Starcourt Mall in Stranger Things!

I'm not Indian nor do I have a petition story, but that scene where the father is giving his son all his money to flee and telling him that he's too old to travel reminded me of my grandmothers story where her father gave her and her little brother all their money to flee away from the Philippines while he stayed and fought the Japanese when they invaded in WW2. I couldn't watch the rest cause I was so busy crying and I miss my grandmother

the Partition was one of the most traumatic events in our history. all of this happened to our, every Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani grandparents or great-grandparents. all of us carry that pain and trauma inside of us. The British just up and decided to divide our country based on religion! all these years later, we are still suffering from it. the moment I saw Kamala on the train tracks, something inside me moved. i'm shaken to my core. this show is fantastic

hey, im no Brit ok, first up. im as non-white as possible. second, im never against "one group" or "another group" just want to say people in power have 3 trouble - 1) they do this. = wrong. 2) they do opposite of option1 = wrong 3) dont do anything = also wrong so...I get you. you feel repercussions. to you, it's not textbook, you LIVE the pain, like people in Hiroshima NOW still, have mutations no one is proud. if we are here, that means our ancestors either survived ww2 or they hid (which is also wrong as they allowed atrocities to take place). so my question - why allow any one body of power...get so much power. the gov, the police? dont flag me, im not trying to start anything. but WE who believe in these systems, understand these same systems will one day govern us too and when thats not in our favour? go offgrid, buy a farm??? im just saying...it's hardly ever black.. or white.

It's not in this RU-vid video, but as I was watching the show last night, when the guy on the street gave Kamala the Polaroid picture (and tries to sell it to her), I immediately got vibes from Sarah Connor in The Terminator (when the Mexican kid gives her the picture)...then moments later the Red Dagger kid told Kamala "Come with me if you want to live!" lol Immediate payoff! Looks like the writers are fans of The Terminator. I also agree with you guys that each episode is just getting better and better! Keep it up, homies!

I was thinking about which character they could use to get into hispanic culture. I know Echo is getting her show but I don't expect much of a cultural experience there. White Tiger? Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider? As far as this episode goes, I love how Kamala is slowly leveling up and building her character/gear. It's terrifying to know that the real Partition was just like they showed, but with people killing each other for the spots on the trains 😩
