You may want to skip straight to 0:31 when the annoying psychedelic blinking stops. As for the airplane, there is one of those in Rio's aerospace museum. It's a very cool little plane.

This is an old jet with a modernized instrument panel. The "Paris" was used as liaison transport by the Brazilian government in the 60s. One can still be seen at the Rio de Janeiro Aerospace museum, in the original Air Force colors.

To use the word "efficiency" to describe a plane with two Turbomeca Marbore engines is beyond ridiculous. Plan 200 gallons of fuel for the first hour.

That and those triangle type inlets just scream inefficiency! Priced the same as a new middle to upper-class home the cost to buy isn't that bad comparatively speaking, but the costs to operate and maintain this will probably be a deal killer for most.

It just so happens that the MS760/Paris Jet is a very unique aircraft, who's particular niche no other plane has filled since, certainly not at a lesser cost. Designs that last this long are timeless, and just plain good.

The MS760 has been in service in the Argentinian Air Force as a trainer since 1962. Very succesful. In the 70s a set of them made up a famous aerobatic team there, flying nine planes. It´s still used in the so called "Dogfighting School" (Escuela de Caza) as a high performance trainer.

The canopy is an essential part of the plane's military pedigree. Really no more drawbacks than other military trainers. I doubt "rookie" would enter anyone's mind for entering inside the hanger on a rainy day though. All they'll see is "jet pilot". That's clout right there.

The Ms760 Paris is truly a stunning aircraft. It has on hell of a look, and a presence in the air. World's first true very light jet, long before Cirrus Jet and others. I dream of having enough money to buy and fly one of those beauties. Thank you for giving this aircraft a second youth.

the MS760 has the same engine as the Fouga Magister (which had been chosen in its place as a trainer). The Fouga was also for many years the aircraft of the French Air Force aerobatic patrol. So yes, its engine is not very powerful, but we can do great things with this little jet 😊

The Morane Paris is realy nice to fly: a historic light jet aircraft, first fly 1954, standart fast transport for officers (retired from military service 1997 in France and 2007 in Argentina), 165 built, same Turbomeca "Marboré" engines as the Aerospatiale-Potez Fouga Magister, the aircraft from the Patrouille de France (before the actual Alphajet)
@LateNightCable
@LateNightCable 12 лет назад
The 760 has a long history as a jet trainer, which it was partially designed for, as well as for the role of light utility.
@dieselyeti
@dieselyeti 10 лет назад
I know a guy who owns one; he told me it's underpowered, loud as hell and burns fuel like nobody's business. Not surprising as they're over 50 years old. But it's still a cheap jet one can buy for 150-300k if you can afford the maint and fuel bill. I'd think it would be a great candidate for Pratt PW610 fans, but those are well over $1M each, so not worth bolting onto that airframe.
@russotragik
@russotragik 10 лет назад
Turbomeca Marbore, a radial simple stage compressor, also burns oil and other stuffs(like your money), the retrofit was only in the cockpit, they didn't changed the engines... And yes the PW 610, or 617 like the Embraer's Phenom 100 would be nice, maybe even the Williams FJ33...
@dieselyeti
@dieselyeti 10 лет назад
russotragik Any of those small fans would be a good fit; problem is their cost greatly exceeds the value of the airframe.
@dboy4ever
@dboy4ever 10 лет назад
dieselyeti Wow you're right. Just did some research. Cruise speed 290kts and fuel burn is 130GPH. That's less than 3 MPG not counting the taxi and takeoff fuel.
@goingtoscotland
@goingtoscotland 9 лет назад
dboy4ever That fuel burn isn't OUTRAGEOUS when considering the fuel burn of a twinjet. Something like a Cessna I will burn north of 160GPH, a new Citation Mustang or Embraer Phenom will burn in the neighborhood of 100-120GPH. While the Citation I is a small cabin class business jet and the Mustang and Phenom are 6 place aircraft including pilot where the Paris Jet is only 4, but you have to look at the time between development. The Paris Jet was developed in the early 50s when turbines were still in their infancy. Nearly 20 years elapsed between the development of the Paris Jet's engines and the JT15s that power the Citation I. Another 35 years until the release of the PW600 in the Citation Mustang. Of course fuel burns are going to be higher, but they're actually quite reasonable still.
@dieselyeti

dboy4ever Eclipse says 60gph in cruise. Not sure where that 130gph figure came from.

+Dan Kelly Who cares - it's a really good commercial and, let's face it, there aren't many comparative planes on the market that can offer what this offers. The only thing they leave out is the cost! (and if you have to ask, you can't afford it).
@dannygjk
@dannygjk 8 лет назад
Exige000 Have you ever used critical thinking to analyse that "if you have to ask, you can't afford it"? Even a billionaire needs to ask how much things cost or they might spend a ridiculous amount of money for something. If he starts to buy something and the person serving him says, "That will be $10,000,000" then it would have saved time if he had just asked the cost in the first place.
@Exige000
@Exige000 8 лет назад
+Dan Kelly You clearly never heard the old Rolls Royce slogan from the 1920's ............and, although I'm not a billionaire, I frequently don't ask the cost of something I know I can afford and really want (not a private jet, I hasten to add) - after all, when you need a nice present for your girlfriend, you aren't going to walk away if you're on a promise!

Because of the freedoms we enjoy here (as aircraft enthusiasts and "warbird" owners in the U.S. and elsewhere are keenly aware), private individuals and/or aircraft museums have the opportunity to collect and operate almost any sport aircraft they desire."

Just shows how much progress has been made in leaps and bounds.

this video give me impression that this is new plane; designed and manufactured in recent years. I didn't know that it was first made in 1950. and that this current models are refurbished military planes. That's why I reacted in that way to "beauty & styling" because it looked to "retro" to me, and surface finish with all dents and rivets, give impression like it was build in garage with hammer :D But, as 60 years old plane, it's OK.

U R talking about the P-80/F-80. The Americans begin using jet fighters operationally post-war, the wartime Bell P-59 having proven itself a failure. The Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star (soon re-designated F-80) was less elegant than the swept-wing Me 262, but had a cruise speed (660 km/h (410 mph)]) as high as the maximum speed attainable by many piston-engined fighters

You can buy a Daher TBM 940 Turboprop that seats six in FAR MORE luxury and comfort, with instrumentation that blows what I saw in this thing out of the water and can fly at close to the same cruise speed 330kts for about 4 Million. The TBM 940 outclasses this thing in every way and would be much more economical per hour to fly. It also has a range of 1700 miles and would be much easier and less expensive to get rated to fly it and maintain it. I'd take the TBM over this any day of the week.

Near 400 knot cruise with seating for four, I would say that's more than a joy ride. More like viable transportation. And even if it were just a toy, it's a great toy. If someone looked at you getting into a jet, and thought "too much money, not enough time" would you think that assessment is correct? Image is just that, and many pilots would admire the opportunity to fly a jet, not chuckle at people doing it. We all know you're not going to find someone with a newly minted PPL flying that.

It is still illegal to break the sound barrier over land in the US. Anyways, I decided to look around myself at this. Yes, there are about 40 Mig-21s currently in US civilian hands according to the FAA, though many of them have never been certified airworthy, and ten of them have expired registration. Mostly museum pieces. Two SU-27 and two Mig-29s were certified airworthy in the past 2-3 years, but the SU-27s were both temporary certification according to your own link Are you happy now? :-P

Caveat emptor!!! This is a refurbished military jet (built in the mid 50's to mid 60's) that may have only a few hundred hours SMOH (since refurbished) on the engines but the airframe has thousands of hours. At $350,000 to $750,000 it is a pretty good bargain but how about the operating costs? At cruise (290 knots) it burns 130 GPH of Jet-A fuel (costs $6 per gallon = total $780 per hour). A 1970 Cherokee 140C will cost about $25,000, burns 8 GPH of $7 PG 100LL avgas, $1,000 annual inspection.

No, the US Department of Defense does not sell airworthy F-16 airframes to civilians, and probably never will. With enough money, you can pick up an older subsonic Mig, and get it certified for flight in the US. I highly doubt a flight worthy Mig-29 can be owned by a US civilian, as to my knowledge the FAA has never certified any supersonic aircraft for civilians to operate.

this is an old but tested design. I wonder how old the air frames... But what kind of range.

At first I thought it was a Grumman F9F, but that had a single exhaust, so then I thought it might be a F101 Voodoo, but the tail is much higher on the F101. Did they really design a "new" plane that belongs in the dawn of the jet age?

You can get these for $75K, and the fuel and maintenance will kill you. You are still talking a small 4 seats and for a jet range (800 NM) and cruise speed (300 Kts) is on the short/slow side for sure.
