EMI is pretty important for longer wire runs, less so for the short camaro runs. If you have too much EMI, power signal gets garbled which reduces potential power and/or creates instable performance. Most plug wires have more than enough EMI. I would recommend silicon on the plug ends though. Helps prevent water seepage into the wires from your hood or road.
To my knowledge, EMI, aka as electromagnetic interference, is an disturbance or altercation within the electrical system that causes a part or parts within the electrical system from performing effectively. And ohms is a typical measurement for resistance as well. So if you either have some sort of electromagnetic interference within the system or an insanely large amount of resistance leading to those spark plugs, your car simply just won't run right or won't run at all. Resistance won't be as big of a problem as some sort of electromagnetic interference will, but still might have an affect on performance.
All true. As I recall, EMI can actually add resistance (like a pin hole or small crack in plumbing; you'll still get water, but will be at a lower pressure). Generally speaking, its not a common problem, due to all of shielding within stock modern electrical systems. However, your car is one big rolling antenna, and if anything has been done to your electrical system at all and things weren't wrapped up correct, in theory you could register some EMI... Then again, those spark plug wires are so short, you'd probably have to be running a corded drill right next to your engine for it to make a difference.
Monday206am Yeah I think that sounds about right when you mention EMI might add some sort of resistance in the electrical connection. Although not a common problem, like you said, every car is different and some might be more prone to having an issue with electrical stuff more than others.
My basic knowledge as an aircraft mechanic tells me that by "electrical noise" they mean electrical interference. Some times electrical wiring can screw with radio waves if not properly insulated or routed.
Easiest way to tell if the wire is good is to just take a multimeter and check the ohms of the wires. CSP has a good video on comparision msd vs stock.
So your key fob battery may be dying. Mine was being silly unlocking from the touch pad on the handle and then it would not want to start. 3 days later it told me the battery in my fob needed to be replaced.
I had the MSD super conductors on my L 86. I was doing a compression test and all the spark plug wires were disconnected, but they were arcing big time through side of the wires. All parts of the wire. I don’t know what’s up with that silicone wires but it does not insulate at all. I went back to Stock.
My car makes decent power and under the hood he has a 6.2 whipple super charger with long tube headers I bet he’s making 700+ hp 😃 I guess my 550HP 2013 Tahoe still needs more mods lol nice set up brotha on your camaro
I had problems with MSD wires on my 2016 Camaro SS. Staying with stock on my new Camaro. CSP Andrew did a test and his test proved stock where better in electrical tests.
Just get a 4 size cable from old jumper cable and replace the wires with that guarantee 0 resistance and +15% power, disclaimer: power gain based on different factors not all electrons created equal.
The problem is that the people who make MSD wires also make Taylor and a lot of other in-house wires for places like Jeg's and Summit. Nothing wrong with the wires, just can't justify the price.
MSD seems to be hit or miss nowadays. There are quite a few videos and forum posts about various issues. I had one of their cap/rotor/external coil conversion kits on another platform and it was complete junk, also had one of their Pro Billet distributor/coil kits and that was awesome.
Back when I used to listen to AM radio I could hear interference from the plug wires I'm not mentioning brand name because it is what it is there is certain brands that are made with a lower quality control that is why there is radio interference
hello, i just installed them on my v8 engine and the grey boots are straight and are touching the headers, will that be a problem? also, can you bend the straight boots to be in angle?
I have these sitting around I was gonna wait to install them until I do the cam and heads. But fuck it you inspire me to put mine on also.. I do wanna ask could a hi ram intake manifold for under that hood you think?
GAIN AN ADDITIONAL 5-15 HP GOING FROM MSD TO GRANATELLI. We would be happy to send you a set. If you want to test them on the dyno. Granatelli Motorsports wires are ZERO OHM WIRES. G's Footage did the test on his N/A Camaro and gained 5 HP over MSD. Your supercharged you WILL SEE MORE POWER.
I heard back from the GM help line for my 1500 , 4x4 , 2018 , #1 the girl said she didn't know what an oil filter looked like #2 she said find a different dealer to TRY to fix my truck ( Vs Not try & just say " it works for us see ya " ) problem .. after rain , my floor shifter ( in 2x4 ) shifts itself into 4x4 .. over & over .. stick is in 2x4 spot .. Part of the reason I say this is because , your job today would ALSO call for what I asked ( if it would fix my truck & not void warranty ) >> dielectric grease put into the connector then plugged in ?? Point is to keep water out . In your case keep from shorting & sticking to the spark plug .. did you put DI Grease on your wires . Still looking for an answer .. PS the lady on the help line said by Policy she could not do or say anything till a dealer said they saw that , in fact , the truck had a problem . At this point they claim it was tow'd in And they Paid for the tow .. but that there is Nothing wrong with the truck ?? WTF , I am looking to trade for a Subaru ?? An Outback ?? That works !!! I think this is what is going on >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yv-NdL_X0T4.html
Anyone know why my #7 spark plug wire would be smoking it was burning up the outside of the boot after running for like a minute then I swapped another plug on and it’s doing the same thing and it’s far from the headers
Lol electrical noise isn’t audible sound. It’s a disturbance in an electrical signal. Less noise you have the more consistent the signal is. “ can you hear your wires?” 🤣😂
Wait what happened? I just seen I video of you explaining why you were going with a procharger style supercharger. Then the next video that's pops up I see traditional style. Change of hart? Sorry, I'm not a subscriber. Haven't been following. I was pretty convinced for your explanation of going with the ProCharger though.
I watched this video recently and they tested the resistance of the stock vs. MSD and stock was better: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GgNu2FQqO5E.html I definitely want to get those heat sleeves. Thanks for testing these though, look forward to the follow up
That was strange because I saw another video showing a 2000 ohm drop. I tested the ones that came off my Stingray and it showed just over 2000 ohms drop on the 2 wires I tested. I also saw another video where they tested the stock wires and it showed 1.9 ohms. I’m actually wondering if they read the ohm meter wrong because it will show a small “k” on the side to signify it is measuring in kiloohms which are 1000 ohms. So the video I saw of 1.9 ohms would make sense if it were 1.9 kiloohms or 1900 ohms. My meter shows 2.004k to signify it is 2004 ohm resistance for example.
Msd is now Chinese sorry it’s garbage. Those of us with multiple projects over the years have seen the changes to their products. They have earned the name “msd might soon die” with many people. For ignition boxes and coils crane has surpassed them and wires for any lt or ls granetelli is the obvious choice as cars have picked up hp using them. I’d say firecore is a close second. I’m not risking a car this expensive to a cheesy cheap plug wire and that’s what msd has now become. Tell you this too with the msd on 16 psi and a .030 gap I was getting blow out randomly. Now with the granetelli on nearly 18 psi I am at .034 with no issues. So more getting from my coil to the plug and that’s an obvious example of a better product.
