Still waiting on Acer to send it, they've been pretty slack in Australia lately, waiting 2 months for them to get me a Ryzen Nitro 5 from the US, gave up and bought one today but no idea when it will turn up.
Your reviews are very informative and cover all the relevant information I am looking for! I have consistently found myself coming to your channel for all my laptop research, much appreciated! Great job as always, keep em coming!
Got mine yesterday the 10sgs . Loving it. I've got very slightly better results on some of the beachmarks here done by Jarrod so im happy enough. Speakers definitely ain't great but with headphones on sounds good to go 👍.
@@om391 i havent seen tearing in basic black and white tests @60hz 60fps.. I've played BF 1& 5 today and havent seen any tearing. Tried 1920 & 1440p and the Fps was between 160-205 though.
I just got the MSI GE75 Raider 10sf 446 2020 model and I'm happy with it. My only complaint is that the power and fan button should've been a different color so they could be seen. I got my MSI GE75 Raider 10sf on Facebook for $750. I've had my laptop for over a week so far.
I'm still confused about 8 corse vs 6 cores CPU in gaming laptops. Should one pick up a cpu with less cores to get less heat and higher frequency for more fps?
Same here dude. Im confused whether 6 cores will be nuff for another 3 to 4 years or should i get the 8 core cpu laptop to future proof it. If only Amd laptops had TB 3 or something similar then i would have bought the amd ryzen 8 cores laptop.
I haven't compared them in a fair manner, but I compared 4 and 6 cores not too long ago and found minor difference in games, so doubt 6-8 will matter for some time.
@@JarrodsTech Do you think a 6 core laptop (legion 5i or Omen 15 (intel) with TB-3 ( so i can connect an external gpu when the internal dedicated one can no longer keep up) is/will be sufficient for next 4 to 5 years??
Jarrod I hope you are able to do a review on the Alienware m15 r3, your the only one that I find really helpful so it would be an honor if you could do it, if not it’s ok your content is really good! 👍🏽
Look into the Sager NP8358F2, it's a $1700.00 laptop that has a 2070 super, 10th gen i7, and 32gb ddr4 dual channel ram. Arguably the most power laptop for the price available right now.
@@desertstriker8 fair enough I'm more of a console player but I definitely wanna get into the pc/laptop gaming world they got alot of games I wanna play lol
@@MARTINRIGGSS The cooling works amazing, although it makes massive noise. I also bought a cooling pad on Aliexpress that gives it a better angle to cool off. Nonetheless, you can expect your temps to max out if you don't tweak it, because the graphic card will for sure attempt to find his limits. Oh, it's a beautiful device, go buy it. Didn't regret it for a second.
I bought Acer Predator Helios 300 with the RTX 2060 a month ago. I have to say that it is doing really great in both temps and performance. I get less than 60 degrees in The Division 2 with Ultra and Raibow Six Siege is the same as well. Everything runs buttery smooth and I'd like to thank Jarrod's Tech for his great videos that helped me choose my laptop.
@@itrahhumaira7568 If you're running the fans at max then you will need headphones for sure. On auto, it's really quite. I use custom fan speed which isn't too loud for others in the room but also keeps my laptop cool. Laptop is really good though. If you have more questions then I'll surely answer.
@@itrahhumaira7568 The temps are really great for me now. At first, they reached up to 85 even after undervolting, max fans, and a cooling pad. This happened to me at medium graphics. However, changing my advanced power settings really helped. If you buy the laptop or any laptop, go to Power options - Change plan settings - Change advanced power settings - Processor power management - change the max processor state percentages to 99 instead of 100. This fixed everything. My temps don't go above 60 now.
Hey jarrod. I love your content!!! Would you say the msi ge66 raider is better than the ms 66 stealth for a casual player that plays random games and just watch movies and surf the internet and youtube?
Hi Jarrod, I am a super fan of your videos and love the way you dive deep into the details of these beasts.. I would like you to also so do a full review on the Acer Triton 500 2020 model with RTX 2080 Super as I am looking forward to by one and at the same time comparing it with the MSI GE66
Any chance of a Hasee laptop review in the future? They're a Chinese company that sells laptops with desktop cpus without the premium price that usually goes along. Loved the video!
Great review as always and got to agree my negatives would be the speakers and G Sync would be nice, but not that big a deal. Other then that it’s pretty hard to fault. I have the 2070 Super spec and found temps to be good and performance has been great has coped with anything ice thrown at it.
@@JarrodsTech Same dilema. GE66 seems to have better thermals, but Legion 7i has a better display, Gsync and TB3. Curious if the GE66 non-Max Q models run hotter than the Max-Q model.
@@kohaashi Better display, full keyboard, much better design, slightly better price. That's what you sacrifice by choosing MSI. I can bet that in everyday use almost noone would see the difference in performence and about thermals... I think that precise undervolting and Kryonaut paste would solve all the problems. I have almost the same dilema but I want something with full keyboard so probably the only reasonable choice can be either Legion 7i or MSI GS75 which is much overpriced (as all MSI devices) and has not the best biuld quality. It's pathetic that amost every "gaming" laptop hasn't full kayboard, even the 17" ones. I really doubt if thit really has anything to do with ergonomics. It's rather considering all people as "casual" players loving only games as CS:GO, LoL or Fortnite where you don't need num keys but of course there are many other games where these keys are essential. Several years ago almost every 15" laptop was much more versatile but now you can't be sure even when looking at 17" ones.
Great review Jarrod!..would you recommend this given the hinge problem of msi .?...in my country it cost around 2800 usdollars for 2070 super model..and the RMA and customer service is pretty much crap for msi in my country..
Considering the screen is 300hz it would be almost impossible to notice any screen tearing unless you’re deliberately trying to find them and even then it would only be for a small fraction of a second.
The higher refresh rate on a monitor the less noticeable screen tearing is. Mostly because for screen tearing to be present on this you’d have to surpass 300fps which would rarely ever happen.
Antonio Eraz yes but wouldn’t a low FPS for games like Microsoft flight sim (which could probably hit around 60fps on medium for this laptop) cause screen tearing? AFAIK screen tearing occurs when the FPS is also slower than the refresh rate.
@@om391 like i said you wont see it unless youre deliberately trying to find it and and if it does occur its for a fraction of a second which isnt noticeable. Ive been using the legion 7i with 240hz no gsync and i have had no noticeable screen tearing. Yes that includes Microsoft flight simulator on ultra which plays fine at 30fps.
Jarrod, thank you for the great work! If you don't mind, I have a question. Calculating power in the current gen laptops is high, especially for FullHD. When the new gen of GPU comes to the next gen laptops, they will be overpowered for FullHD. The current FullHD screens do a great job to provide an excellent image quality, especailly on 15.6 inch-sized machines. To summarize, I think it is not worth it to move to 4K on a laptop simply because the screen size does not exceed 17.3 inch. Don't you think that moving to 4K in a 15.6 or 17.3 inch laptop would be an overkill? Thank you!
Hi im not jarrod but my opinion might help ya, if you are only considering gaming then please don't go above fhd 1080p and maybe 1440p but definitely not 4k at all.. it will not only kill your fps but but it makes no sense .. you can hook up an external screen if you want a bigger screen.. and yes 4k in 15.6in will an overkill but not worth it at all.
@@wildparrot3802 it holds up really well, the thermal solution was made for the 8 core cpu so it's plenty for the 10750. The gpu is chillin below 70 most of the time and rarely ever thermal throttle the cpu, depends on the game. I also use a thermal pad which IMO is really necessary for all gaming laptops.
@@JomaRPGaming thx for the reply! I was worried about temps because i don’t already have a cooling pad . I was most worried about long term high temps damage
This is the same configuration I just bought and I love it! It’s such a blazing fast PC. Playing CPU heavy games on ultra is awesome, and at high FPS at that!
Awesome tech review, you have a new subscriber. I just bought one but I hear the 2070 super is better than the Q Max 2080 so I went for that instead (not sure why MSI would limit their most powerful version in the range) but I am super excited now. Bought it for the release of Cyberpunk 2077 so I am all good to go :)
I just ordered this laptop with the i7 and a 3060. I literally only play Overwatch so this might be overkill, but my current rig is a desktop full of hand-me-down components from 10 years ago that’s now crashing all the time so I was due for an upgrade lol.
0:55 Height and Depth both pertain to vertical dimensions! You cannot call two different dimensions by the terms used for vertical measurements. It's either "Length, breadth/width and height" or "Length, breadth/width and depth." Not both!
This has a Type C plug in thing right? So if I wanted to get a display port to hook this up to two monitors would u recommend this Type C Hub with 2 2.0 USB Ports1 3.0 Port & Type C Port or would u know? And I like the click clacky sound of a gaming keyboard do you know if you can just plug in your own keyboard to use on this? Thank YOUU!! 💜
@Jarrod'sTech can you help me choose between Acer predator helios 300 with I5 processor rtx 2060 and msi GF65 I7 processor rtx 2060 please. I am confused between these two. They cost the same. I can't buy the i7 version of predator as it's too costly. So guys can you tell me which one will be better?
So lemme get this straight the only cons I can possibly see with this device is... No thunderbolt (I personally don't need) No g-sync (would be nice but meh) Cramped ish keyboard (I can get used to) Tinny speakers (I'm a headphone guy lol) Sounds like my next laptop unless there's a big upgrade in performance next year with either rtx 30 series or amd ryzen with higher tier gpus, ty for the review!
Pretty much! The speakers are crap no bass at all. But like you said if you use headphones no issues. I have found the keyboard to be fine and it’s nice to type with.
@@JarrodsTech Actually just thinking about it isn't g-sync kinda overkill on a 300hz monitor since you would have to get above 300fps to even start to see it, so that's even less of a deal breaker...guess I gotta save my pennies lol
Which processor to get for rtx 2060 gpu if price and laptops are almost identical, ryzen 7 4800h or i7 10750h? Main aim is gaming and simple other uses
I need an advice for a Gaming Laptop. I have two alternatives: MSI GE66 €1499 : i9 10980syst 1t SSD 32GB RAM RTX3070 Legion 5 €1415 : Ryzen 7 5800 H 512 GB SSD 16 GB RAM RTX 3070 which one should I buy?
Question - does it make sense to consider buying laptop, running current gen RTX GPUs or maybe it makes more sense to wait for what nVidia announces on their event in September?
Hey Jarrod regarding the CPU wattage cap, could the 230W adapter need the limiting factor here? The 2070 Super model comes with a 280W brick and seems to get 60W or so on the CPU even when using the GPU. Excellent video btw, exactly what I was waiting for! A comparison video on Jarrods Laptops with the Legion 7i and Eluktronics G3 would be great!
Hey Jarrod, would the tracer iii evo 15 200 (mag 15 from a different brand) be better or the omen 15 2020? Need it for art, gaming, game programming and school. Those were the two recommended to me, but idk which to get
Coming back to my question on Lenovo 7i video: wich one would you recomend: MSI GE66 or Lenovo 7i? I would take them with RTX2070 and 10750h. Again, I run mainly CPU heavy games.
@@arda7881 do you have any proof? Maybe real capacity, out of the box, is lower than described on the battery or meant as default value shown in programs like HWinfo. The one in my Samsung Galaxy S10+ has in theory 4100mAh but there is a note that the real capacity may be lower, so it could have even 4000mAh and it would be completely fine. So once again, I doubt this laptop has serious battery problems.
I recently bought this laptop but the microphone in it is really bugging me. The audio isnt that great either, but when i use the mic in the laptop they can barely hear my. I've read some things about realtek and nahmic being the issue. Is there a way to solve it or should you assume it isn't vaiable to play over the mic? Even using the headset mic i barely get above the 3th bar of the audio properties in the controll panel I've usually play with someone on the same table, and we talk over the mic on discord...
Nice review! I’m loving mine with the 10750H/RTX 2070 Super combination. I think it’s the best overall gaming laptop of 2020 so far. Aren’t there four levels of keyboard brightness?
Dude I’ve some questions cause I maybe buy this configuration in the future. 1) What’s the model of that configuration? 2) Are the thermals of that configuration hotter than the thermals of the one in the video? ( considering it’s 10750H) 3) what about the gaming performance of it? Cause I heard that it’s 2070 super max-q not max-p.
Kirllos Atef 1. MSI GE66 10SFS-048. 2. It runs a little bit cooler by about 3 degrees or so when gaming. 3. It’s a max p 2070 Super at 115 watts. With an overclock I got 23,180 on Firestrike graphics with 19,400 Firestrike overall.
Andrew Morris thanks for answering! What about gaming performance? Will the gaming performance decrease because it’s 10750H (6-cores) not 10785H or 10980HK (8-cores)?
Kirllos Atef Gaming performance is wonderful with the 10750H! 6 cores and 12 threads is still plenty right now. I run Flight Simulator 2020 at 60 FPS on high settings.
Hey i gotta ask Jarrod, What laptop has good cooling for an rtx 2060 and maybe a 9/10th gen intel cpu, ive been looking and the 7i stands out alot for the price but not sure about the price.
Jarrod, I need your help. My country is selling the HP Omen 15 Intel version (RTX 2070 SUPER™ with Max-Q design) whereas my neighboring country is selling the HP Omen 15 AMD version (RTX2060 6 GB GDDR6 dedicated). Which one do you think is the better choice? I'm going to use it for medium gaming and video editing (long term buy). Really appreciate your input on this.
Thank you for reviewing this unit. So this unit is a good buy here in AU? On the front port of usb type c, can I use the displayport 1.4 to usb c cable in order to hook up to a external monitor?
@@cameronbosch1213 they reserved it for GS66, not sure why. Anyway based on Jarrod's review, no bass, g-sync and thunderbolt 3 are the cons of this laptop. I am also eyeing between this, GS66 and Zephyrus s15/17.
Hi. What is that black stuff that covers heat pipes and other elements? Is it to prevent heat from escaping the pipes and lead it out to the less insulated areas? Cheaper GP66 does not have that, the metal is exposed all the way. So maybe manually covering the pipes with similar insulation tape, and maybe applying some CPU heat-transfer paste on top of CPU can help with heat transfers? Or wise versa, maybe being unprotected those heat pipes can be more efficiently cooled by 3rd party cooling-pad (those with electric fans) underneath the laptop? Can it somehow be modded with other DIY materials to improve heat retention?
HELLO SIR , what kind battery life gains i can expect if i reduce screen refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz for normal working? .As i’ve ordered HP pavilion ryzen 5 4600h version. Thank you. Great channel very detailed info.
Hi Jarrod, what are your thoughts on the new Zephyrus S15 GX502LWS? Was thinking about getting this but was hoping for a review before deciding. Thanks! :)
Hey Jarrod. I'm just wondering if you could review the Asus ROG Strix G15. Its configurable with upto a RTX 2070 Super and i7-10750H. It also has a RGB strip around the base of the entire device which is a very unique feature for a laptop at this price point from what I've seen. I'm looking at getting one of these and was wondering if you had plans or could review it for those of us looking at them
Which day omen full review plz tell already watched the other 2? Also do a video to compare acer predator i7 10750h vs omen 15 4800h both same graphics preferably rtx 2060 if u dont have 1660ti predator then plz do it with a 4800h rtx 2060 laptop other then asus tuf a15.
Have you notice any stuttering, screen tearing or anything that disrupting the smoothness during gameplay since it does not have g-sync? Especially when playing triple A titles. Thanks :)
I personally have used some MSI gaming laptops in the past and loved their look and style and this again is another great looking and well spec’d laptop...... however my wallet just doesn’t have enough in it to buy this beautiful laptop 👨💻 😢 Great review as always.
Hey Jarrod. You mentioned no thunderbolt on this machine. I saw a new egg listing labeling the USB C On the back as thunderbolt. Can you please clarify. I want to buy this machine but thunderbolt is a must for me.
Should still be great, if you're hardcore esports though it might make a difference, I've seen 240 and 300 side by side and you can see the difference in dota/csgo.
@@JarrodsTech Hey Jarrod! I am about to order this beast thanks to your reviews! There is one thing that troubles me considering its thermals though. Do you think the i9, RTX 2070 Super version runs hot due to its higher wattage (280 watts)?
