Honestly thank you for walking me through this, its been a real dream of mine to build a gaming PC since i was about 16, I just celebrated my 34th birthday and started at my build for it. I was dreading this part. Thank you again RU-vid tech man.
Great video mate, i got this mobo with r5 7600, and gskill 6000 cl30, followed your guide and enabled expo, pbo, CO -20, and everything runs smoothly till now, all the testing (cinebench etc) came out great, had my first gaming session yesterday and no issues whatsoever. Thanks for this detailed guide because honestly it was really tricky to find a step by step guide for clueless people like me! cheers
@@anant0089 PBO means precision boost overdrive (some sort of a small auto oc). co means curve optimizer for the voltage. -20 = -20 millivolts. but be careful, reducing voltage can cause system instability. -20 should be stable in most cases though.
@@mikesunboxing does the MSI b650 bios support 4x4x4x4 bifurcation for the x16 PCIE slot? unfortunately you skipped the pcie configuration settings in the video
When I saw Tomahawk I thought we were reviewing a Tomahawk steak! 😆Seriously, it looks like a solid and well built mobo. I use ASUS mobos and my son uses MSI. MSI does take longer to boot but I do like the BIOS screens. Also use CSM when installing a hard drive with a previously installed OS. If its in UEFI it wont boot the OS. Thanks Mike & Kath! Cheers from Las Vegas. By the way it snowed in the mountains today. Strange weather! 😮
I do find the MSI bios better to navigate on my dters pc versus my asus mb. Will be a while before jumping from AM4 2bh but glad of your tutorial Mike and Kath. Thanks for sharing👍
I was watching a video by Hardware Unboxed about the cheapest b650 motherboard. Interresting results, but what stunt me was that both MSI motherboard had the longest boot time of all. Around 40 second while Gigabyte MB were at about 23 seconds! Hope this will improve with more mature BIOS...
Hi Mike, I'm looking at building a new gaming rig for the first time in about 15 years and am interested in investing into the AM5 Platform and currently have the following components on the shopping list (budget is around £2,000). The games I like the look of are mainly play FPS and RTS games like Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Call of Duty series, Overwatch 2, Borderlands 3 and such like. I believe combining the Ryzen 5 7600X with a GPU like the RX6800XT or higher will squeeze the most performance out of the system and also has an upgrade path built in (the Ryzen 5 7600X can cope with the fastest GPU on the market, even the monster known as the RTX 4090 - so maybe when the price drops). * CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X * GPU: Radeon RX6800 XT or the 6950 XT * Mobo: MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 WIFI * CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin or DeepCool AK620 (or maybe an AIO Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2) * RAM: Kingston Fury BEAST RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 5200 CL40 or similar * PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 750W V2 Fully Modular or similar (min.750W, at least B-Tier) * Case: So many to choose from but 2 that I like are the Be Quiet! Silent Base 500DX and the Antec NX410 (ideally would like the Hyte Y60 but this is a tad pricey at over £200) * Monitor: Gigabyte M28U (a 4k one).
Note on THIS! 27:00 is that to the right side is RPM my case fans and most fans only has recommended 2000 RPM. So, this fan curve will max out the fans. And you will have an airplane. So in this case 70% is like 10000RPM. My fan curve is almost in the bottom to achieve normal rum sound. Just keep that in mind when you set your curve.
Hi Mike, i have the carbon motherboard with a 7800x3d. Occasionally on power up. It enters the bios on its own. Not recognising my boot drive; samsung 980 m.2 then rebooting all ok. Hi there Mike! I hope you are doing well! I just have a quick question that I'm hoping I can get a answer too. So long story short, I got a brand new PC built not too long ago been about 3 weeks since it was built and the last week of it I accidentally got a malware virus and so I took it back too the company which I bought the parts from and had it built so they could do a fresh install of the OS windows 11 so it would completely get rid of the malware. I just got it back not too long ago and I have the exact same Motherboard and before the fresh install when i would either turn on my PC or even just restart it, I would see the motherboards logo first then it would boot into windows, but after the fresh install I now noticed it doesn't show me the Motherboards logo at all and just fast boots into windows. I'm not a very technical person which is why I am asking how can I get my Motherboards logo too show up again like before? I did go into control panel and disable fast boot in power options but that still didn't do anything so I am guessing that option is also enabled in the bios of my Motherboard, how can I get into the bios of this board and disable fast boot? Any assistance is appreciated thank you!
sometimes if the monitor is plugged into a different port, it doesn't get initialised before windows loads, so try plugging the monitor into a different port to start with

Why is the IDLE temp in BIOS for you so high? It's sitting at 46c. Is that normal? For me it sits even higher at 58c. Is this an AMD thing? With Intel in BIOS temps are in the 30s.
@@mikesunboxing I've been an intel user for life and this blows my mind. I set up a SFF (Ridge case) and a NH-L12S and it (7800x3d) idles 55-60c in Windows (and BIOS) and under load goes to 90c (but is capped at 90w). On the low end very hot but on the high end quite efficient.

@@mikesunboxing A couple of new BIOSes have been released since this video was made. Have you tried them and are the boot time any better? Any other noticable improvements? I'm deciding what mobo to get for the upcoming 7800x3d and this one has pretty much what I need.
@@mikesunboxing I tested it on one of my m2 ssd, it took a while, and I didn't see any result notification...I came back to the main menu automatically. I haven't been able to really form an opinion on this option.
The motherboard is really, really bad. I knew that the MSI startup is slow, but not that slow. After installing just Windows, with nothing on it, it takes at least 1 minute just to start. I've tried latest BIOS and it's even worse because it gave BSOD. I had to downgrade it (160 was initially) to make it start somehow. Let me explain. After you press the start button it just stays, screen is black and for at least 40 seconds the CPU and RAM LED (Red and Yellow) are on. After that they switch off, the green one for Boot will be on a second or two on and after all are off, then you'll see Win starting up. After Windows starts there's no problem. It works fine, but time is money and I can't wait it over a minute to start. So much money, but it starts like a 486 from the '80s. I've timed it with an older laptop which is on Win 8.1, i5 6th gen, 20 GB RAM and it takes less than 30 seconds. I've changed it to Gygabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX. DO NOT buy MSI !!!
i had a lot of problems with mine and also others, until i manually setup the RAM timings in the BIOS, since then it has been great and boots really quickly, but i will get some gigabyte boards in to see what they are like
Awesome video! Super helpful, only problem I had, you often said you can enable it or disable it. But you didn't explain what it does. But most likely you expected us to have the information already. Still a great and informative video👍🙂

Sent me spider senses tingling with a MSI BIOS Tour !!!!! Thanks for taking the time to show every nook and cranny of the BIOS, in my opinion MSI are the standard that other companies need to aspire to with regard their BIOS interfaces. Thanks Mike and Kath.
I got a lot of problems with this one and Ryzen 7700x, it doesn't show my SSD in the bios. But it does show it as a C drive to store things. also only usb audio jack on the front of pc works. its really bad too, my audio jacks in the back don[t work

Hi i want to know one thing. Does the board makes PBO curves thing more viable and stavle or its mostly the processor chip RNG. I have that motherboard and still didnt mess with it because i enjoy my brand new PC and its a beast compared to my 7yo one, but one day i plan to mess with it. So how is that board doing with PBO settings?
most motherboards use too much voltage so that even marginal processors will still be stable and acheive the rated speeds. this means that the majority of processors could run a lower voltage and likely perform better. this is why PBO and curve optimisation is a thing

@@mzd3ocho Hi, I had to connect to the router through the Ethernet cable and then update windows. It will prompt you to install all the missing drivers and that did it for me. If you keep having trouble you should be able to download the drivers separately on a usb from another pc and then install them on the windows one (I did it from Mac on my w11 a couple of weeks ago when my WiFi driver stopped working and simply reinstalled the new one. It was working once again but you shouldn’t get to this point unless it really isn’t working). As long as you can connect trough the Ethernet you should have issues after the couple of updates.

the chipset is the same but the lan and audio are pretty different, i would be tempted to try it, but be mindful that a fresh install or at least a repair install might be needed
I had a question. Is the bios interface same for every b650 msi boards? Or MSI in general for that matters. Like I'll be buying a msi b650m gaming(non-plus), will the bios interface be same? And if it is then is it same for every other mobo vendors?
Does the EXPO profile come with the MOBO or the ram itself? Will the MOBO recognize it and provide you with 2 expo profiles or you need to buy expo ram?
Most modern boards have the ability to “read” data programmed into the memory chip. Xmp is for intel and expo is for amd on the am5 platform. Some ram will have both xmp and expo profiles programmed onto them for the motherboard to read. Hope this helps
I get a little lost since I don't speak native English, could someone tell me at what minute of the video the RAM frequency increases and the AMD Expo is activated, please I would greatly appreciate it

Sometimes forcefully resting the PC 10+ times will make the board put the picture through the GPU. But you can imagine how annoying this is. Is there any update for the board or should I return it and get some other board?
the board will only try to use the igpu if either there is no other GPU detected or it is told to via the bios. If there is an HDMI or DP cable in the igpu that will also trigger the Igpu
