Just finished assembling this board with 7800X3D amd 7900XT. I'm very satisfied with it. However, I'm getting a replacement board tomorrow because the BIOS settings will reset the moment i unplug it from the wall. Looking through the MSI forums, it's suspected to be a drained CMOS battery due to the protruded CMOS reset button being constantly pushed in it's packaging. Unfortunately, the shop says they can't replace just the CMOS battery as it will void the factory warranty. Hope the replacement board have a good CMOS battery.

One more weird thing regarding the tall clear CMOS button, from the MSI forum, seems like a number of users for this board (including myself) ended up with the button cell battery being depleted due to the clear cmos button being repeated pressed during shipping (there's an imprint of that button inside the box). This seems to result in the motherboard losing all settings the when shut down (kept losing my XMP settings) and seems to cause the memory to be retrained every time the system is started up form shutdown, leading to a unusually long startup time.

I just got the board, and they have changed the packaging by making a cutout for the CMOS and flash bios buttons. Will update here if the problem is still there.

Hello - I have been following your channel for a while, and I love the relaxed yet informative style you have got going :) I had a question, perhaps you no longer have this board, but if you do it might spawn another video :) Apparently External Clocking is something useful on AM5, especially with X3D CPU's - as it allows for better overclocking; My question is, can you check/confirm whether eclk works on the MSI ITX board, according to MSI's BIOS guide it is enabled, but that's a generic guide for all AM5 boards... Thanks in advance!

I must admit...the AMD matx & itx boards made by MSI were always lacking in certain areas BUT have always provided you the essential things needed on the motherboard without going crazy with the bling-bling features. Although I am more of a MSI gpu fan, I would not hesitate to buy this board if the Gigabyte B650i was not available to purchase. Remember the EVGA & XFX 750i sli motherboards? This MSI B650i makes me think of those 750i SLI motherboards. Those were some awesome mobos back in the day...rock solid😁

Luckily this time they decided to go with the standard AM5 black plate, the last gen was very restrictive when it comes to cpu blcok choices.

3:53 with the latest 132 BIOS this board now supports 48 GB memory modules, so the limit should be 96 GB now. Also they fixed win 11 sleep mode with that BIOS. Before that release sleep mode wasn't active, there wasn't even an option for that in Windows. This version is still in beta though, but it is a recommended one, since it fixes am5 excessive voltage issue.

GIGABYTE B650I AORUS Ultra seems to be cheaper and have better IO and software features. I also like that the Gigabyte has a USB C 10G with DisplayPort, as well as an HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4. It could come in handy for hybrid graphics, virtualization, and potential APU options in the future. Gigabyte also has more USB ports and one more M.2 slot in addition to more SATA. Both MSI and AsRock dropped the ball with display connectivity considering every AM5 CPU has an integrated GPU which is ideal for multiple monitor productivity setups, with powerful APU options in the pipeline. A single HDMI port is not enough for a serious computer. Just imagine the tiny powerful mini PCs that will be built after AMD releases their APUs. MSI seems to have cheaped out in other areas too. There is no backplate. Gigabyte includes one.

In your opinion, how does this msi board compare to Gigabyte's b650i aorus ultra? I personally recently got the Gigabyte B650i Aorus Ultra, it feels similar to the msi board. I am also affected by the longer post times at boot, but having 3x m.2 slots (one is pcie5) is nice. I have my board also in an nr200 with a c14s cooler. Unfortunately, I don't think I can fit both 120mmx25 fans at the top of the case, but I might try a couple of thin profile fans if I find that I need to assist with pulling air out of the case.
@TDV1

I returned mine since it came with a dead CMOS and dear rear nvme. It took nearly a minute to post on that board with a M.2 gen 4 drive. I would say it's a better board due to having 3 x m.2 slots. Air cooler compatibility will always be an issue no matter the board, these itx boards are primarily focused with AIO's in mind.

Sadly its a year later and MSI still hasn't made a B650E ITX board (actually no new ITX boards have appeared, its slim pickings) I don't have issues with PCIe 4.0 for the M.2, but I am concerned with only having a PCIe 4.0 expansion slot and future graphics cards. Most likely the 5060 will cut lanes just like the 4060 did, not a problem if down to 8 but with 5.0 having so much bandwidth additional cost savings might be had and its chopped to 4. (there was 4.0 cards that only had 4 lanes so with 5.0's bandwidth there is a high chance more cards will only have 4 lanes)

I have been running this with a 7950x + 4090. Its decent for now. One thing bothers me is boot sequence. The dram (yellow) is always on for like 10-20sec and then it boots up. I tried overclocking my RAM from 5600 to 6000 (there's an Auto setting) and the things was stuck, the LED debug was on for like solid 20min. I just had to use the clear CMOS and then it booted up. It maybe the RAM I am using but still it very annoying, specially coming from am4 boot speed. The Gigabyte B650i itx, I find is a superior one. But its not available outside Americas. Oh and I just manually put the m.2 fan in its lowest fan speed and its all good. Going above 1300rpm the sound it makes it already very load.

Just use the "Memory Try It!" RAM 6000mhz preset (the lowest cl30 one that doesn't raise the voltage to 1.4). Then tighten the RAM timings with Buildzoid's settings from Hardware Unboxed's DDR5 RAM on steroids vid for an extra 7-8% performance. This should work for all 6000mhz ddr5 ram as apparently all the 6000 mhz stuff is high quality RAM. Works well

@@rasa4512 hey man. Thanks for the info. I've used the memory try it settings. Currently running 6000mts cl32 1.34 volts. It's a bit unstable now, normal desktop use is fine, but whenever I play Hogwarts, switching between different windows and the game quickly, crashes the game 3 times out of 10. I'll check out the buildzoid guide, hopefully that helps and tightens my timings aswell. Do you think I should disable expo?
@rasa4512
@rasa4512 Год назад
I believe the EXPO settings doesn't matter as it defaults on anyways when you choose one of those Memory Try It! presets. The one that's stable for me is the lowest on the list of the cl30 6000 mhz (asterisked version) try that. Also I would update the BIOS to avoid the VSOC over volting issue that has been melting some boards to be on the safe side. Oh and enable the PBO setting in the overclocking menu (especially if you have a non x amd cpu) to allow proper boosted cpu clocks

The high CPU socket position is the most annoying aspect of this board. Makes certain coolers incompatible like using a IS-55 in a Fractal Ridge. The high position will work against you in cases like the Ridge and Terra that positions the motherboard upside down, in reality this moves the socket to the bottom of the board and heat gets trapped at the top of the case or middle in the Ridge.

In the UK, Gigabyte is cheaper and afaik, has 3x M.2 slots (2 on the CPU and 1 on the chipset) one is gen 5. ASRock is also close in price and is gen 5 compatible with more USB and SPDIF. Unfortunatley Gigabyte ITX is only offered through USA retailers to the UK and after checking with Gigabyte UK, they will not covere RMA or warranty. Count yourself lucky in North America. Personally I'd pick a gen 5 compatible mobo as I would only be buying into the AM5 ecosytem so I can upgrade in 3-4 years and that additional gen 5 headroom could be a real telling point in future gaming.

You can replace the battery, you can protect the BIOS buttons to prevent an accidental press, and you don't really need the M.2 cooler if you dont like it.
