Quick correction- the Gigabyte B650I has no SATA data ports on the board itself- if you mount the riser card you get four ports- two ports on the top of the card and two ports on the side of the card.

Thanks for the roundup. Could you better summarize the POST times (without windows boot)? Because this info is usually ignored by reviewers and you at least hint... When I was deciding on the board, only AsRock and Asus were available. I went with AsRock first, because of absence of VRM fan and presence of LVDS out for some fun with case mounted LCD. That never happened though, as was given all kinds of hell with it. 36second delay before windows starts booting with memory context restore on a 2DIMM board was a no go for me. Wake-up from sleep was also very slow after dialing in the specified DDR6000 speed (memory was listed in QVL as fully compatible). So I went hunting for a better BIOS, updated to newest one to get even slower boot. Wanted to try other BIOS, revert to original, but the BIOS update failed everytime from that time on. AsRock support was completely nonhelpful with generic recommendations I tried already. Back it went, bought with Asus instead: 15sec boot, MUCH better BIOS, and for anyone interested the VRM fan never kicked in with my 7600X.

I recently built in the NR200P MAX at the weekend, I have a 12th gen i9 so i went with the MSI B760i Edge WiFi DDR5, i'm not overclocking the cpu, the motherboard has been great I have it pared with 64GB DDR5 6400Mhz Corsair Dominator RAM and a Zotac 3080, also I have 2 black 120mm slim arctic fans at the bottom of the case as intake, when i'm not using the PC i have the glass side panel on for show and when I'm using the PC I put the vented panel on, it's a great case for my small space, I have another build with a 13th gen i9 and a zotac 4090 Trinity, I even thought about putting that gpu in but it might be too big! i'm using the NR200P MAX build as a streaming PC. Great channel btw I love the content it's very chill.

I've been saying since they made the DTX board ..... It should become a staple form factor. I originally got the Gigabyte B650i Ultra board when I went to Micro Center a few weeks ago because of the bundle deal they had at the time. After banging my head against the wall for hours due to the breakout cables & the board refusing to post. I returned it to MC & they had a better deal but it was for a Asus B650E-F ATX board. I still had my old 011 mini so I was like at least I can get up & running for now. However I plan to mod my NR200 to fit a mATX motherboard & I'm going to pick up the best board I can find to fit my needs.

Thanks for this. i am planning on a new personal SFF computer later this year. i had already thought the MSI was the best board for me and this excellent review just confirms this. My last couple of builds (both SFF for family members) were done with MSI mobos and they have worked well with a good bios as well. i wish the board manufacturers could figure how to put the audio plug in a different spot. With chunkier GPU's, trying to plug the video card in, that damn wire always gets in the way for me. Its likely not a big deal if you use a riser cable. my biggest question is which case to use but at the end of the day i am still leaning to using the NR200P. i just have to have a glass panel to look inside especially with the case sitting on my desk and see my work. Plus i want to air cool it. I am not a huge gamer or productivity user but i just like a nice setup to look at (yeah i like some RGB accents too). My last build was in the NR200P with a Noctua air cooler and it went very well thanks to your very helpful videos on building in the case and how to set up the air cooling for optimal results.

I had the B650E-i from ASUS and I had never ending stability issues. Updated BIOS whenever a new revision was available, ran memory stock but still experienced BSODS. To rub salt into the wound, it also had awful coilwhine. I might have gotten really unlucky with the batch of ASUS boards when I ordered mine, but as soon as I switched to the MSI b650, everything just worked. No BSODS, no coilwhine, no stability issues. Feature wise, it lags behind the ASUS board, both in terms of IO and in placement of headers on the motherboard, but I'll happily trade that for a board that just works.
@steffen6987

I also had annoying coilwhine with my ASUS board, switched to the MSI myself and also had no coilwhine. After having an ASUS RTX 3070 dual which also had horrible coilwhine I am starting to think buying ASUS isn't it.

Love this summary, great video! I grabbed the MSI for $239 back when it was on sale when the 7800x3d launched, which I grabbed as well. It’s been solid other than issues with RAM at 6000, but 5800 has been good. Glad I decided to go with it as it was the cheapest option at the time and I was pretty surprised to see the price climb up the way it did.

Have Gigabyte sorted their backdoor issues? Also is it possible to do a video for m-atx focused on those with gen5 for GPUs? Gen5 for storage as a consumer doesn’t really makes a difference vs gen4, but having a motherboard with gen5 GPU support would be nice since I tend to use the board for 3-4 years. Rumors suggest we get gen5 GPUs in 2024.

The B650 looks fine but it is very expensive. I am hesitating between a GIGABYTE B550I AORUS Pro AX and a B760 solution like a ASUS ROG Strix B760-I. As Machine&More is my "Bible" when building a mini-ITX configuration, I am wondering why there are no reviews about mini-itx motherboards for Intel 12th and 13th generations? You know, it’s hard to say but I would anticipate power delivery to be sufficient. Given some of the hiccups with even just the X3D chips, anything could happen with next gen, but I don’t think AMD wants to release a new CPU and have nobody buy it because their boards can’t run. They’re already facing a tough market with Ryzen 7000.

Am I the only one who thinks Asus is on the right track with having debug LED's on the outside? Where it's actually visible and therefore useable? What's the use if it's on the board and you can't see it because it's crammed inside an ITX case. Would you prefer to open up your ITX case just to look at your debug LED's? I like the Hive setup specifically because of this. I'm building inside the meshroom case so I think it'd be nice to have the volume, extra inputs, Debug LEDs etc. all at my fingertips. No BOO! Don't innovate, charge more money for the same board as last time.

Strictly within AM5? It's going to be the Gigabyte then. If you're also considering Intel then both MSI Z690 and Z790 ITX boards support 3 m.2 drives (no gen 5 support though).

@MachinesMore no intel. I have an Asus Crosshair x670e hero and 7800x3d. Just want to down size since a have a mora3 420 radiator now. May have to go micro atx

YO M&M!!!...The Gigabyte B650i has (4) SATA 6 ports on the add on card Msi B650i - (2) M.2 & (4) SATA ports Ggiabyte B650I - (3) M.2 & (4) SATA ports (one of three M.2 ports are pci-e 5.0) Max memory capacity for MSI B650I & Gigabyte B650i - 96Gb Gigabyte backplate is NANOCARBON (excellent heat absorption & heat transfer properties). That backplate uses that speacial plastic, LMAO! Anyhoot, I like it (thumb up!). However, I do wish it had a clear CMOS button on the rear IO (thumb down) MSI B650i - $299 Gigabyte B650i - $259 It was very easy for me to buy Gigabyte over the others because powerful vrm & (3) M.2s with 5.0/4.0/4.0 pci-e) & (4) SATA ports I can forgive Gigabyte for the dongles & no debug led indicator 4 months & running...no regrets buying the Gigabyte B650i (double thumbs up w/smiley face!!!)

'Plastic back shield' @ 2:10? That's anodized aluminum.
@MachinesMore
@MachinesMore Год назад
That's what I thought initially, until I took it off to test the drive slot. It was non-metallic. Plastic/graphite type of material.
@doCtorBlahMan
@doCtorBlahMan Год назад
The backplate is a nanocarbon material. It is non-metallic. It's definitely not 100% plastic but MIGHT contain some within it's composite form (not 100% sure). Gigabyte advertises the backplate to be nanocarbon. Nanocarbon is a material of carbon allotropes (take some time & research it). An allotrope is an element that possese two or more different forms in the same state. For example, diamond & graphite are the two allotropes of carbon. Also, take a little time & look up the allotropic forms of carbon. There are several allotropic forms. The mysterious question is, "which allotropic forms were used to construct the backplate?" What is known is that nanocarbon is a tough light-weight composite with excellent thermal & electric conductivity & it's a suitable material for what its being used for on the motherboard.

@morbadthworst8148 Год назад
@@doCtorBlahMan Gigabyte's own marketing material says it's aluminum with a thin "NanoCarbon" coating (with that capitalization, suggesting a product/company name), which I mistook as anodization. It looks like a stamped metal plate (look at the all the edges and bends), as that's what it is. There is no way it's predominantly carbon; that would serve no purpose and be needlessly expensive. Gigabyte's "NanoCarbon" is probably the trade name of a graphene paint of some kind.
@doCtorBlahMan
@doCtorBlahMan Год назад
@@morbadthworst8148 The thin layer of nanocarbon over the aluminum backplate was specifically described for the B650E AORUS MASTER. So I will agree with you regarding the B650i backplate being the same. That's still cool with me. Aluminum backplate coated with a thin nanocarbon material...I'll take that. I enjoy what Gigabyte does to separate themselves from the other motherboard brands! So there you have it M&M! No plastic backplate for B650i. It's just simply an aluminum backplate coated with nanocarbon. Thanks for that info "morbadthworst8148!"

But Intel 13th generation is very difficult to cool in SFF form factor and not everybody wants liquid cooling in a portable computer. If you are targeting i5 13500 or below then yeah Intel is better in both value and performance.However you need to be very lucky in the silicon lottery to be able to undervolt a 13600k so that it runs below 150W which is the maximum 67mm air coolers like the Thermalright AXP120-X67 or ID-Cooling IS-67-XT can handle. Otherwise you are leaving performance on the table. An i7 13700K is out of question without liquid cooling.
@thetechrealist
@thetechrealist 11 месяцев назад
@@gencoserpen1260 If you desperately need that type of CPU performance on air, I'd recommend buying a slightly bigger Micro ATX computer instead. It just doesn't make sense to take that huge motherboard (cost) hit for slightly better cpu performance on such a small build. Mini Itx with no water cooling = Light to Light-Mid CPU always
