hello man, I really need help. I just bought intel version of HP omen 15 and I don't know how to get into its advanced bios. Can you pls help me so I can enable its undervolting option? thank you!
Is the gs66 fans quiet at idle mode when doing simple things like browsing and watching RU-vid?? And what's the Temps on doing simple tasks at idle mode??
The GS65 also has the advanced options in BIOS but you must boot into the bios first using DEL key, then once in BIOS you press right Ctrl, right shift, left alt and f2.
I tried this on my MSI Crosshair 15 with an i7 11800H and it's perfectly fine! So if anyone has a question about whether it works with the i7 11800H, it works. It's never been this quiet! Thank you so much bro!
Great video man! Just got my Msi GF65 thin today, i5 10th gen, rtx2060. I was getting very hot but after i undervolted it, it droped from around 92 celcius to around 72 celcius! awsome.
me and most people have the ugly locked blue bios. Word of advice, just because a laptop that costs as much as a car has a nice bios doesn't mean other laptops do too
@@toeknee3302 You didn't hit the silicon lottery then. Mine undervolts stable -125mv, has never crashed. Undervolting isn't really the problem. You need to limit boost frequency. I limit mine to 4 ghz MAX no matter how many cores active and it keeps the CPU at a still toasty but respectible 85ish celcius. Better than thermal throttling and melting itself.
Just for you to know, I have the same laptop with the 2070 s max q. I tried -100v undervolting, it was fine, but during intensive gaming sessions(+2 hours) a blue screen with an error popped out and windows force restarted. And it kept doing that for a while, then I changed the settings to -0,75 and now it works fine. I run a 45 minutes stress test just to be sure
I love these types of performance gaming laptop videos you do! In depth! However I would love a video of you using a bootcamp'd (latest RX 5500M 8gb Gddr6 paired with i9 and 32gb sodimm) and then reviewing the gaming performance, thermals and any pro's and con's to using apple architecture with windows software/programs/games. In fact for the past 4 months I have been rocking that very MacBookPro 16inch setup...I only use it to play R6Siege and wow it boasts really good gaming performance but I havent done anything past that. I am considering making it my professional and gaming all in one. Moving over my editing programs (Premier, and AVID and Resolve) and using not only for gaming but also for professional work use. Thermals are the only issue, it seems to get 10-15c hotter in windows than in MacOS. I have elevated my mac and put two PWM 120mm fans under neath which provide very good cooling mind you it makes my office loud. Should I put new thermal paste? I love windows more than MacOS, it just works better and I just cannot seem to get used to MacOS which is affecting my editing. It's weird to say from a long time PC user but my MacBook Pro is running windows better than any of my beefy PC rigs...which is why I want to convert using strictly bootcamp windows but on a MacBook Pro haha. Let me know any thoughts on this and I would love if you conducted the same experiment.
Cheers! You'll probably never see any macbook content on the channel unfortunately. The channel is way too small for Apple to care about, and given a lot of larger channels review their machines I'd be spending thousands of my own money for little gain, unfortunate but that's the way it is unless someone is able to loan me a machine.
Great video Jarrod, it made me reconsider the idea of buying a pc in 2020 without waiting for AMD based high end laptops! When can we expect the full review of this GS66? :D
@Aegon Aram RTX in AMD laptops is the Max-q whereas the intel laptops will have the non Max-q version of the 2060. Also, most screens in AMD laptops are bad compared to this one, yet 300 Hz is overkill.
I've been wanting a new gaming laptop for a while, would you recommend getting one this year? The GS66 appeals to me with all that performance but should I just wait for the AMD CPUs to be paired with RTX graphics above the 2060? I am a bit sceptical of all the benefits that the new AMD CPUs are bringing though, I've heard that the G14 has a "slow screen" whereas the GS66 has a "fast screen" where response times are low. As someone that does not care for graphics as much as response times and fps for gaming, this laptop appeals to me more.
The Asus Zephyrus G15 could have been a better alternative for gaming as it has a great 240Hz screen, but unfortunately Asus choked the fans with unnecessary plastic film so although it's bigger that the G14 it has worse thermals...
I always way to buy if you need, there's always going to be something new around the corner a year from now. From what I've seen the gaming results between Intel and AMD are pretty comparable, but still waiting to get my hands on them to fairly compare. Yes differences in screen response time, so that would be a factor there. I am literally setting up testing to add response time results to future reviews right now!
@@JarrodsTech Ah right, that's true. I've been waiting so long because of there being something new about to be released all the time. I think I'll wait until the GE66 comes out to see if I should purchase one of these exciting laptops.
Well I tried at the latest bios for MSI Gs66 stealth, even if enabling overclocking options, due to pundervolt vulnerability it is disabled. IXTU and Throttlestop can't do anything to change the CPU voltage. That's why i7 10750h is continue to overheating and throttling at heavy load tasks. And yes, the only option is too limit CPU boost to 4 Ghz max.
I try to do that on my gl 75 10sek and it's doesn't work, when i try to save changes, my laptop just reboot themselves and do not apply changes ( how can i solve this ?
@@ProntoBinotto ya I got solution go and watch technical sahaj video he title how to undervolt intel cpu he uploaded it almost 1 week ago Language Hindi
@@Mukesh_Rana._ I found it too. I'm using MSI so I am going to tell how is it done in MSI's BIOS. BIOS --> Advanced --> Power Management --> CPU - Power Management Control --> Go all the way to the bottom and then go to the Configure CPU Lock. From there you are going to see "overclocking lock". Disable it and it is going work just fine

Still hoping to get the 15G soon! If Gigabyte don't send it like they agreed to, then it's because they didn't like what I said about the Aero 17 (they already told me they didn't like it lol)
@@JarrodsTech damn they really hate honest reviews don't they haha. But hoping for the best hope u get it man after all your reviews are really good. :)
I looked into both laptops, I got the GS66 i7 w/ 2070. You can always get nice external keyboard and get a cool dock. You can't get nice aesthetics later on a laptop
I have a 10th gen CPU, and the bios it says XTU inferfaced enabled. However in XTU it only allows an increase in voltage. I can also undervolt in the bios but only in increments of 1. I don't really fancy jumping -1 volt.
I have the msi sword with i5-12500H and I don't have the option XTU Interface, when I enable OverClocking feature I still can't use throttlestop or xtu to undervolt. Can someone help me?
Bought the intel 9th gen i7 MSI GF65 THIN but it was running very hot nd buggy msi software so got rid of it nd got the ryzen 7 4800h rtx 2060 omen 15 which is runs way cooler nd it's better overall
What is the best undervolt you recommend for the i7-1050H? Also, I have seen many people complain that their BIOS settings didn't save once they clicked on "save BIOS'" or something, and also read on a page about undervolting on MSi laptops that clicking "save BIOS" doesn't actually save it but instead you have to do something else, which unfortunately the writer didn't mention. Would really appreciate if you replied to let me know how to save the changes in the BIOS and what the best undervolt for 10th gen i7 is.
I know this is an old video but have you tried underclocking as well as undervolting? Underclocking would be the big thing to do for better thermal performance
Would QuickCPU be a better option for undervolting in this laptop? I feel that it might be safer as well. It will also allow you to tweak your core multiplier easily and if it fails just reboot your machine to get back to stock settings.
Hey Jerrod, I enabled XTU interface from the advanced bios (and saved and exited obviously) but its locked in the XTU software. Am I missing something?
For the people having trouble not applying the settings in the bios before you can save you need to press again the combination and then you can save. Even after Xtu didn’t work but I managed to get it work with throttle stop for me I have achieved around -110 with no errors
Just got my GS66 delivered yesterday, UV will be my first mod. I tried adding a second ssd but couldn't get the under panel open!! Talk about rock solid.
@@noureldeinhamdy8163 after 2 weeks with it, it certainly runs hot. Even just productivity tasks make the under side of the laptop feel hot to the touch. I have the SFS model i7 2070S. Havent got to undervolt yet but hoping it helps with thermals. Also bought some new paste.
I bought msi gp65 2070.. and it hits 90..93 easy ... with max fans ... but now after these settings its in the mid 70.. 75 !I lost some of the performance and frame rate but its fine for me still hits the 100 fram in cod .. thank you bro
I just got the GS66 with the 10750. I Tried a -.1 under-volt and I actually lost points in Cinebench. 2803 stock and 2763 with the under-volt... am i doing something wrong? EDIT: View my update reply.... in summary, under-volting helped.
UPDATE: So after playing around a bit I do think that I got some improvements. The largest improvement was actually repasting the CPU and GPU with Thermal Grizzly's paste. that made me get 2850 consistently and 2870 max. I only used cinebench r20 and simply did one test aft another only allowing 20 seconds to cool in between. I have a current stable under-volt of -.175. This has allowed me to achieve a max Cinebench score of 2933, yet the average is around 2900. However, now that I have tweaked it to see what I could get I am now simply going to lower the max voltage and run Linux (Pop_OS) as my daily driver anyway. DEATH to windows! LOL
When you get the Razer Blade 15 Adv. Model 2020 in your hand, could you please check if there is a way to undervolt this machine aswell? I got mine today but i cant find a way to undervolt the cpu in the bios (AMI Bios)
I try it on my GE 75 Raider 10SFS undervolting is not enabled in ThrottleStop and Intel XDU, i try undervolt in Bios but after this when i boot my laptom shows only black screen, why i cant undervolt this shit ...sad
I can’t even open the advanced settings. I try to open it and I just keep getting a notification by nvidia that a supported game is required to use that feature. Any tips?
Hey, I tried enabling xtu through Bios, but without any further changes my laptop fans now run constantly and quite loudly. I tried resetting to optimized default through Bios. Is there something I am missing here, or is this normal for laptop fans? I'm on a Gf65 thin. Thanks. Edit - even right after booting up, MSI dragon centre registers my CPU temp at around 90 degrees even when I'm not doing anything
No, because there's no guarantee it will be stable on your hardware. If you don't mind doing some stress testing etc to see if it's stable then sure go ahead, just expect app crashes/possible blue screen/restart.
Hey Jarrod, I need a laptop for school and gaming. The battery life can’t be too short, but I don’t need 10+ hours either. I’m looking for a price between $1000 - $1500. I was thinking of buying the Asus G15 or A15. I don’t want to give people virgin vibes with the laptop so it can’t be looking flashy. I don’t need it right now I can wait a month or two if needed. What do you think is a suitable laptop for me?
That price point has traditionally been my Y540/Helios 300 range, so based on what you said, Y540. Haven't tested G15 or A15 so can't make a recommendation there.
Hi Jarrod, what's the best undervolt you were able to achieve and does keeping MSI Dragon Center negatively impact the ability to undervolt (due to some OC applied etc)?
I don't spend any time trying to finely tune them as it varies by hardware so it would just be a waste of my time as it wouldn't represent what most people would experience anyway
I enabled both options in bios and still ... I can't undervolt in XTU.... In Trottle Stop it;s show that I can undervolt , but it;s doesn't change a thing .... even when I set -0.1 ... it's still 4.3 -> 4.4 Ghz on CPU .... :(
Hice lo de la BIOS, guardando y saliendo. pero luego cuando vuelvo a abrir la BIOS, esos cambios ya no aparecen, cómo si no se hubiese guardado. (tengo el msi gs66)
hello, finally I found the solution to my problem. It was long duration power limit and short duration power limit in bios, the only question is: can I change those parameters on a non-k processor?
I have a MSI gp65 leopard with i7-10750H cpu@ 2.6 GHz and RTX 2070. Followed your steps for the advanced bios but the core voltage offset and intel turbo boost sliders on XTU are still greyed out. Please help...
im so dissapointed with the purchase of the gs66 stealth. a beast of a laptop but it has so many malfunctions. my ''e'' key rgb died yesterday and today my whole keyboard rgb died
Hi Jarrod. I recently purchased an msi GL65 10SFK with a core i7 10750h and OC able RTX 2070. Through the advanced BIOS, I wasn’t able to find anything about overclock settings or anything that allowed to to alter core and cache voltage offsets. As this is a different model the BIOS is a little different as well, but I have seen comments on other videos that there is an option in my model’s BIOS to unlock undervolting, but I have scrolled though around 3 times and have had no luck with finding it. In XTU it’s locked, but with throttlestop i can alter core and cache voltage offsets and apply but it doesn’t change anything. Could you help me out please? Thanks Jarrod!
Sheesh I own a GE76 Raider and was just trying this secret code on my new Asus ROG Z590E motherboard. No wonder it didnt work. I thought it was my new wifi keyboard locking me out. Getting old sux.
