After owning the B650 Tomahawk for a while, there where a few things that i wished it had, and now with some price reductions the B650 Edge Wifi fits the bill ALMOST perfectly. There are still some things about the B650 chipset that annoy me, but for the money this ticks a heck of a lot of boxes, and maybe it does for you?

Great video and thanks for uploading. I just had a question in regards to the motherboard a m.2 storage and if i will have any issues. I'll be installing a rtx 4090 graphics card and planning to install two Samsung 980 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD. would i have any issues regarding the m.2 ssd's or the graphics card slowing down because ive install two ssd's ?

Yes unfortunately that is a limitation of the chipset, but you shouldn’t really notice it unless benchmarking

Hi Mike. Really great review, just purchased. For clarity, will using two M.2 drives impact the performance of my graphics card? I am buying an AMD Rx 7900 XT. Not sure yet which cpu, 7700 or 7800x3d.

M2_3 & PCI_E2 share the bandwidth. M2_3 will run at x2 speed and PCI_E2 will run at x2 speed when installing devices in both slots. it isn't totally clear from the documentation, if in doubt use the m.2 1 and m.2 3 they run from the CPU and chipset ∙

So you personally recommend the edge over tomahawk? I didn’t quite notice the difference between the 2 boards except for the cooling shield for the last m.2 slot. Did I miss something bigger? It’s the same price for the boards in my country…

Hi Mike, I've noticed that AM4 boards are starting to disappear from retail as AM5 becomes the norm. For those of us who spent a lot on a 5950x, do you think it's worth buying a backup mobo as chips seem to outlast boards?

@@mikesunboxing I think I'd prefer to buy another mobo, maybe something really top end, than go through the fuss of selling a platform. AM5 isn't mature enough for my liking yet and the 13900k would be a whole lot of expense just to get into a platform that's as mature as it'll get and potentially be into the territory of mobo failure later on.

Latest Beta Bios for the board 7E10v171(Beta version) finally makes XMP and EXPO stable now with the white or black Kingston FURY Beast 64GB 6000MTs , I have the white, nice and stable and superfast out of the box only clicking on profile XMP.. Very happy with this board and MSI quality and support, a far better buy in terms of value than X670 or other B650 versions. Cheers Mike.

For me, if I am going for a am5 , I'll go for the b650e E strix from asus. It has a q code display and the gpu release button. For a B series and having these extras is so sweet.

14:00 i didnt really understand that part. i thought the top ssd slot was gen 5 x4 and the bottom slots were both gen 4 x4. so how is bottom right slot slower and the bottom left is the regular speed?

Just got this motherboard and uh... The chipset heatsink wobbles? Did that happen on your board? I don't have any problem with temperatures, and a quick look over shows that everything is intact. But its just a little weird, never seen that on any other board before

yeah just checked mine, it does also, think it is because the offset spring pin mountings and the height of the chipset gives it wiggle room

@@mikesunboxing Awesome man, thanks for checking up on that. I was super worried, so I completely disassembled my PC and really looked at the heatsink. Like you said, the spring mounting is on 2 opposite corners so there's a little bit of movement. But the thermal pad is intact. I gave the whole thing a big yank, and nothing broke, so that's reassuring. Heh

I picked up this board. I was wondering why on userbenchmark, (yes yes I know) why my ssd's were benchmarking so low. On crystal disk mark they were showing their listed speeds. On the main m.2 I have my 990 pro. On the lower two m.2 I have the Crucial P3, and an older intel 660p. But they were all showing lower than expected performance at least according to user benchmark. I doubt Ill never notice any real world deficit. I've always wondered why on mostly all boards, that the motherboard cable faces forward when most cables come from the side. Why don't they have the motherboard 24 pin facing toward the side? The usb plug right under the 24 pin also faces forward. If they faced to the side it could have been a lot easier for my cables to plug in.

XMP is for Intel EXPO is AMD. If you get RAM that is EXPO that is the best option and 6000 is about the highest you will reliably get on AM5

the tomahawk was crashing for some reason, maybe bios i don't know why. but this seemed much more stable from day one, and looks nicer and has pretty PCIe sharing in my mind

For example I have 1 nvme gen 3x4 and planning to add another gen 4X4 - will that require limiting the speed of one of them? I'll probably go with the EDGE as the price is only 10euro more than the tomahawk.

@@mikesunboxing Ow, i was looking into The TOMAHAWK just because i heard it was on of the most stable motherboards :S Did you use RAM that's in the "QVL" ? I'm a Creator & need a stable setup. Can i trust "MSI MPG B650 Edge Wifi" or should i buy a more expensive (or slower) Intel system instead, i work in 3D applications not so much video edit. So intel is not a must for me.

personally i would avoid the nzxt boards unless really really cheap, they are just asrock boards with extra plastics and less support

this is great for gaming, the x670 variants have more PCIe lanes and extra USB ports and maybe better VRM but not really needed for the majority of people

Hello everyone, I would like to get this board because it fits very well with my setup (currently planning a new PC). I've seen a lot of posts and videos where people complain about the boot times ( generally the BIOS). But these posts were all 5-7 months old. This might save someone from having their CPU pop. Make sure your ram is AMD ready. A lot of the "popping" CPU's are using INTEL optimized ram and the memory controller when set to the XMP settings is causing over volting and killing the CPU.

From what i read in the internet, AMD ready is pure marketing. The RAM sticks you can buy are optimized for Intel and AMD alike.

The M.2_2 header should be powered by the CPU according to the website.

I ordered this motherboard this last week to pair with the Ryzen 9 7900 65W 12C/24T CPU, 64GB Kingston Fury Beast 4800/6000 DDR5 (4x16GB), ASUS TUF 7800 XT GPU, & a single Solidigm (Intel) P44 Pro 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (ER=1200TBW) as boot/primary drive in top M.2 slot. I'm ditching the mediocre stock AMD single 96mm fan "Wraith" cooler that comes with the 7900 CPU & using a DeepCool AK620 Digital CPU twin heat-sink & dual-120mm fan cooler instead. My secondary/archive/storage drive will be the Solidigm (intel) D3-S4620 SATA3 2.5" 960GB Enterprise-Class SSD (ER=7100TBW), which is a reliability & endurance beast (I've been using variations of them since 2015 when they were still Intel branded 2.5" SSD's). Quite a few BIOS updates have been released for this board over the last year, so it should be stable platform by now to build on.
