@@anonwalkerr It wouldn't have been an easy 3-0 for Cosmos but Leo says Joker loses the Inkling matchup, and with Cosmos being the best Inkling around and Armada recently going even/slightly winning over Leo's Joker in friendlies at Summit, it's kinda clear to see Cosmos would have won more easily if Leo went Joker there. Lucina was the right play, for sure.
man, that whole last game, I wanted so badly for Cosmos to just roll from ledge ONCE. Leo kept racking damage off of jump and neutral getup, and lo and behold, Cosmos wins the moment he finally rolls in also I think that Game 4 was the fastest I've ever seen someone beat Leo, holy shit
Ya I agree Darkly, I think the reason he didn’t is because inkling’s roll is relatively slow and very reactable and thus Leo likely would’ve caught the roll. But it was definitely painful watching that sequence for Cosmos

For the people saying “well, he didn’t go Joker”. Mkleo has said himself that he thinks Joker carries like 10% of the weight when it comes to him being a top player. Lucina is also a top character so...it’s not like he is terribly mismatched. He is also very used to Lucina, so it can’t be that he is rusty. Cosmos on the other hand, has improved tremendously. Kudos to him.
Every top player gets carried to some degree by their character. I wanna see any other top level player try to play a secondary at the level that MKleo can

I'd have to agree with Leo. From an inkling perspective, Lucina is a much harder matchup. However, Leo's joker is still a menace so maybe the match up wouldn't have mattered.
It's pretty smart actually for Leo not to use joker so they won't get used to his main. This is just practice and getting a feel with real good players
To those that kept saying MkLeo would’ve won if he went Joker, MkLeo sees the Joker vs. Inkling to be a losing matchup so he went for Lucina instead. It would be strange to go against the best Inkling with a character that loses to them.

Nun ASMR have you played inkling? It’s much harder than you think. I started maiming inkling recently and I was really frustrated at how much inkling didn’t carry me as much as I thought he would. The bomb really doesn’t do as much as you would think

considering mk leo was ledge trapping exceptionally well at 2-2 and then cosmos sneaks out of it barely to take the W, highly respectable gameplay and good sportsmanship on both sides. no reset but still incredibly hype.

And by saying that you're definitely understating how good Leo's Lucina is since he's won major tournaments with her before so to just try and pawn that off as just "it's his secondary" is dumb as fuck. Cosmos is an extremely talented player that consistently makes it to Grand finals in a bunch of different tournaments and I'm sure if any of the top players could beat Leo's joker he's one of them.
Looks like the grind at summit payed off for cosmos. If this grands was any indication I hope we can see cosmos back in top 8 from now on. It might be too late this far into the season, but next season things will change. I miss Leo's lucina. His marth shined in smash 4. But I was also happy to see him succeed with marth to show haters that he doesn't need joker to win. Cosmos better watch out though. Leo's lucina will be stronger next time.

Cosmos still won, plus Inkling is considered an annoying matchup for Joker anyway. Leo did beat him with that character, but that was several months ago, close games with Cosmos losing to an SD. And people also conveniently forget that Leo's Lucina is the best in the world alongside Protobanham's, winning majors with her. "He's just practicing his Lucina." Tournaments are practice for anyone who goes to them. calm down, leo just came from winning a major against the top players just last week. He is practicing his Lucina and Marth he said it right after wining the tourny. Cosmos is a great player and this win must mean a lot but everyone knows why MKleo is#1
Angga Antonio lmao no, cosmos would not 3-0 Leo’s joker. And yes, they’ve all gotten better. Even though he’s the best Lucina, Leo’s joker is still his best. He has used joker even in match-ups that he felt disadvantaged in. Therefore, he really was using his secondary here.
The next thing pro Smash players need to focus on his angling their shield so they don’t get shield poked. Literally no one is taking advantage of that.
This just goes to show that you can pick Lucina over Marth but it doesn’t guarantee an easier time at all Tbh after watching this set and a couple others of him using Marth at this tournament, idk whether Leo was playing his best as them that day. Maybe his heart wasn’t totally in it that day so he was pressing buttons more (because he was doing sillier stuff vs the Ness for example). Who knows, but good stuff to Leo and Cosmos. Hope Leo realises that he can use Lucina but he can also use Marth just as well because they’re both sick.
100 APPLES it’s less Marth trades “more power” for more options - some of his moves are generally straight up better - Ftilt and Side B are far superior/safer for killing. Meanwhile a notable better Lucina move is Bair. He trades the general “attrition” for more options. It’s less he’s not as consistent as Lucina, and more, when you hit with one of her moves, you know what’s gonna happen. With him, it’s like one of three things; either hit them harder and further than Lucina, or set them up for a combo or tech chase, which Marth is better at capitalising off of. The thing with Marth is realising when you’ve landed that tipper or the sourspot and knowing how to capitalise off of each hit. Leo is exceptional at doing this. Not many other Marth’s are yet.
im sick of all these excuses from leo fans , he's just not as good as everyone makes him out to be . yes he is amazing but I wouldn't say hes the best player in the world skill wise, id say hes a contender but I won't believe it until he wins the way he does with joker with a character like lucina . joker is in a tier of his own . and don't say well hes just starting to play marthcina as of recently because that's total bs. he's always played these characters just not at bigger tournaments but he will play them on stream and in friendlies all the time so his hands are warm . he was playing great against cosmos , he just got outplayed stop trying to take credit away from another top contender

I noticed that Leo is using Lucina's DB the same as Marth's DB, which is probably why it's not too effective here. But this is Leo, so he'll definitely get better at it. Congrats to Cosmos. I want to be able to play Inkling well too.
Honestly Leo didn’t need to win this since he already got that fat stack from summit. I think his purpose this tournament was to practice his secondaries.
Most people probably jump the gun to apply pressure, also there’s more risk of being hit first by waiting. I try to do the nair one myself and I find those factors hold me back from doing it more consistently.
Marth needs his tipper to prioritise over his weak hit, effectively giving him a bigger tipper. It’s really dumb how hits landing in both his tipper and weak hurtbox are prioritised to be weak hits in this game.
Why exactly is March worse than Lucina ? I heard that Martha’s tipper effect is essentially spread throughout lucinas hit box damage all around her sword. But that sounds a little ridiculous to me... is that true or is there something else that makes her better?

he is practicing Lucina for major tournaments, he just won a agaisnt the top players which must be stressful. he still did good, coming from loosers and last hit last win match. Cosmos is a great Inkling player.
I've seen this scenario many times in my life; the best players in the world are so far ahead of the pack with their mains that they want to try new things to feel the thrill of battle again. That's why Linkorz doesn't use Siegfried all the time in Soul Calibur, that's why SonicFox doesn't use Jacqui all the time in Mortal Kombat, and that's why Mkleo doesn't use Joker all the time in Smash Bros. Still, props to Cosmos for taking the win.
Why all the comments are about Leo not taking Joker in this BO when we All know that he plays her often as a counterpick and Marth aswell frequently, and moreover Leo doesn't like the mu Joker vs Inkling, it would have been even more easier for Cosmos to win.
