Hello Wild Ones, happy Wednesday! Here I’m having a lil look at my MSR Hubba NX, which I really love so far.
This is not a paid promotion, nor was I gifted this tent. It seems to be a really great versatile bit of kit, so I thought I’d share a few specs with you, and a few different ways of using it and setting it up.
As always, I am no expert so please leave your Hubba NX experiences and tips in the comments for us all to learn from :) 👇
If you’d like to see this tent in action on a bad weather backpacking weekend, check out my Snowdon trip ⛰ • Playlist
I have a lovely solo tarp camp filmed (with a special visit from some roe deer!) I’ll get that up when it’s edited :D probably next week now
Thank you so much for watching 😊 much love, Claire 🌿🐻

Hi Guys! Thanks for stopping by this lil Hubba NX Vid :) Love it so far, it’s never let in a single drop of rain and is versatile and easy to pitch. Please stick your Hubba NX experiences & tips in the comments 👇 for us all to learn from, and I’ll see you again soon for a lovely tarp camp in the rain with an unexpected visit from some sweet Roe Deer. There’s also some WildBeare Merch in the pipeline :D Have a great week! Claire 🌿🐻

Hi Claire, it's Alex and Charlie (my Beagle) here :) We were both curious about your height, given that the tent doesn't look that big? I'm 5'7" tall, Charlie is 13 inches from the ground to the top of his shoulder :) LOL. Have an amazing day or evening ahead, bye for now, Alex and Charlie. :) P.s Love the videos, very informative, not to mention entertaining :)

Hi Claire! Thanks for this really useful video. I've been driving myself mad trying to decide between this tent and the big agnes copper spur. I think the MSR is going to be much more durable, so I am leaning towards this one. I notice that you have been out mostly in your tarps recently, but I was wondering if a long term review of this tent was in the works? Thanks very much! Stay wild! 🐻🌿

I used one of those for about 14 years. Bought it in summer of 2005. Used it in Hawaii (where I lived), all the time, every burning man of those 14 years, desert, forest, high mountain mainland camping, plus several bike tours. Finally retired it in the fall of 2019 It was super awesome. I beat the crap out of it, and it held up very well to all the abuse. It keep working great even with one bad zipper, (my fault) then a broken pole (my fault). But the final blow was after all the years or service the fabric itself ripped. Would highly recommend.

I bought a hubba hubba nx for my 3 month cycle ride to Athens from the UK. An amazing tent, lots of room, great features and very versatile. I survived a full on thunderstorm in Croatia with an actual mini-flash flood running under it in the middle of the night. I stayed bone dry. It was a bit pricey but you know what they say; you get what you pay for! Great mini-review Claire - keep up the good work and stay safe from a new subscriber :)

Hey Claire, thank you so much for this detailed video about the Hubba NX. I bought it a year ago and already have successfully mastered the Laugavegur trail in Iceland with this easy to set up tent. What I didn't know, however, is that you can set up the tent from the outside first if you have the footprint. Thank you for this great tip! Be well and stay safe. Best wishes from Germany.

I've been using a Hubba for ~14 years (not the NX - I don't think that was around back then). It looks like they've made some improvements - mine lacks the rain gutter for example. But mine is still going strong. I still rely on it regularly, and I've used it in all kinds of weather. No problems at all. My dog did poke a hole in the screen - she couldn't decided if she wanted inside with me or outside.

Hi WildBeare really enjoying your Chanel over here on NZ. I have this tent and find it really useful to peg out the 4 corners first (when putting up the inner first, I haven't tried the fly first yet ! ) and leave the corners pegged when taking the tent down. This makes getting the pole in and out really easy and a bit more manageable in windy conditions. Happy camping :)

Love MSR tents. I have the Elixir and my friend has the Hubba 2 person. We have never had a wet night. They hold up really well in storms. If I were to get a 1 man this would for sure be my go to. I too like camping with my pup. When it's me and my friend we take one 2 person and split the gear, and they really do pack down small. We also put it in our own stuff sack. The weight isn't the lightest you can get, like with Dynema tents and such, but I think it's great value and top notch quality. Nice review.

Claire, thank you for taking the time to share your review. Beautiful as always! Hey, when you have the tent fully set up with the top, how did the ventilation seem? Do you think it would get stuffy on a warm humid night? And, on those nights when it was windy and rainy did it seem pretty sturdy? Thanks again, and please keep em' coming!
@WildBeare
@WildBeare 3 года назад
Hi Conar, thank you :) yep it held up well to rain and wind, once the guy lines were in. I had it try to take off once when just the corners were pegged down, but with the guys in it stayed put fine. I didn't have any issues with ventilation, no condensation. I've not used it on a really warm night yet - if it was dry I'd just use it without the outer, or if raining keep the outer door open. Thanks so much for watching! Claire

Great fact tent video. The msr looks the business - quality. Was thinking how it was a pain pitching in the wind and rain (Snowdon), where you was putting the outer shell first with the poles, that you could do with a helping hand. An idea is you put the tent per normal in your garden. You get a length of ripcord/string, you make and tie a knot/loop on one end of the pole(ground end), string out the cord to the next end of the pole, make a loop/knot, and then so on to the next pole end -eventually tieing up to the first loop. You'll then have a continuous ripcord circle with four loops/ties of the right dimension, so when you come next to howling wind and rain, you get out the template cordage, slip each pole ends into its appropriate loop(labelled) thus have a stable frame of poles, to then put your outer shell on. Keep up the great videos.

Such a great impression video, thanks. Great idea with the washing line inside. Might have to copy that ;-) I have used the NX on multiple trips so far, also in rainy Sweden. Its always held up great and I love it. For one person it is certainly roomy enough (I am 174cm). You even have some room left to store gear or clothes at the foot or head end, depending on your preferences. I got it on a sale with 25% so if youre keen on getting one and can afford to be patient, look out for sales.

Good fair weather tent, so take little notice of it's ratings. On Dartmoor with a weather change, high winds and driving rain plus temperature drop, if your not kitted an excellent tent to start hypothermia in. but it wlli just about keep you dry even though your freezing cold. Had one and been there mine is now sold on. Arthur (UK)

The official Hubba NX footprint doesn’t cover the vestibule, which for me is a ‘must’. However if you buy a Geertop ultralight 1-3 person groundsheet in X-large size (£23 off Amazon), it is the right width for the tent and two of the attached corner loops can still be used. You then cut the front to the angles to match the vestibule, hem the cut edges using seam sealing tape and re-use the two corner loops from the part you’ve cut off by cutting them away across the corners retaining some material and bonding them to the front of your new footprint to correspond with the flysheet and frame corners - voila!!
