Fun Fact: This sketch was almost subjected to a lawsuit from the Orville Redenbacher popcorn company until the MST3K writers dropped all references to them.
Let's be honest, I only came back to this segment because it was recommended to me on a certain MST3K quote no one on RU-vid ever bothered to upload except myself. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oAX3HJorCBo.html
To this day, whenever I beat my brothers in cards or video games I start yelling, "It's my Will not yours, I've got the keys to the kingdom, I, ME, MINE, I'M THE GOD, I'M THE GOD!"
I'll never forget how in the MST3K book they stated that this sketch almost had them in severe threat of being sued & they went and did it anyway....hilarious.
Being British, I had never heard of Orville Redenbacher before this. I watched the episode the other year and thought 'umm...ok, they're being a granddad and grandson making popcorn and it all goes wrong. It's quite funny I guess.' Only when reading the mst3k wiki two days later did I discover what this was about. Then a few months later I watched a broadcast edition of the Pumaman, and an Orville Redenbacher commercial cropped up in one of the breaks. Now I fully get it.,
Me too. Quite a few specifically U.S. references pass me by with my being English, but it doesn't matter, it was still one of the smartest, funniest, weirdest things ever. Nothing in the UK could touch it, yet I never got to see a single episode until they appeared on YT. I still bless that day!!
@@thedativecase9733 I saw three episodes on the sci fi channel when house sitting for someone back in 2000. Then the movie when Itv showed it in 2003. Then I never got to see it again till I got to netflix in 2018, found the new version and the episodes of the original that were there at the time. When I finished all those I was desperate and went to you tube hoping against hope. Wished I'd realised before then how much old tv is on you tube. It's been quite a journey ever since. A while back when doing a you gov survey it asked me the question 'how do you rate these sports teams?' several of them. On a scale from one to five or love to hate. And one of them just happened to be the green bay packers. So I put love. At the end of the survey where it had a box for your comments on the survey experience I put in there 'Packers win the Superbowl! Woo! Go Packers!' Which probably meant nothing to whoever at you gov read my comment. But it was fun.
Some of the best Servo sketches are the ones where he has stuff in his head or literally loses it! It's sort of both in this sketch. Classic! I'm surprised the Redenbacher didn't sue the hell out of these guys!
That's amazing. I never thought of this as any defamation of character. I've always seen it as the same bad dream many of us likely had in response to repeatedly viewing the advertisements so darned much.
My brother & I watched Godzilla vs. Megalon together not too long ago. Boy, was it a heavenly gift - this segment especially. 2:02 for "I'm the God! *_I'M_* the God!"
Even though this is essentially a sketch with the Bots taking something and giving it a very dark turn, it's an efficient commercial and I'm now hungry for some popcorn. :p
Ironically he died of a heart attack in his Jacuzzi, which is one of the most lavish ways to die, especially for someone who cultivated an image of being a dork.
@SUPERMEDIABROTHERS6 I'm hoping they cameo in the new movie, which will focus on the Muppets trying to save the Muppet Theatre, which is where the original show took place. If the film includes a scene where they take auditions for new acts the bot's will likely appear there. But to be perfectly honest with you, I actually want to see puppets from other Jim Henson productions cameo in that movie, especially any of the characters from The Dark Crystal or Farscape, those were great productions.
Wait... how is Servo the grandchild, if they are forbidden to be with women because of science... you gotta have a women's to have a child and then a grandchild...
