Not a bad port, but sound, graphics and controls are not as good as the arcade version. Controls feel stiff and jumps require nearly perfect timing. -

At least the developers bothered to put in all four levels, which at the time was an extreme rarity in home ports of DK. All in all not a bad port for the time, although Mario’s speed is a too fast relative to the enemies

I noticed that all the graphics are from the ZX Spectrum version and Mario's sprites are from the Commodore 64 release from Ocean.

Well, the only diffrence being better sound, and Mario's sprite looking a lot better, with better color picking

if the COLECOVISION version's of this game could have been ported to MSX, we would have had a version close to perfection since the hardware of the two platforms is almost the same but unfortunately this did not occur

Mario can’t jump in a proper curve pattern, instead he only could jump to a 3th quarter of a curve pattern but then he lands 5 frames too fast,if mario just could,ve jump in a proper curve pattern and didn’t landed that fast,then jumping over barrels would,ve been much easier,but now you have to jump pixel perfect over them,ouch.

If you watch Donkey Kong closely starting from 2:46, you'll see that he's actually punching his balls instead of his chest! LOL!!!

Mario's sprite is looking all right, but DK's sprite looks rushed during development and Pauline's sprite looks like they didn't even try at all.

FC版では、カットされた2面が入ってるだけMSX版は良いですね。日本でも、発売されてたら購入してたと思います。

You make this game look like to be very easy but it’s not because the hit & collision detection is off,also once mario jumps,he falls down the last few pixels waay too fast,as a result those jumpings on those barrels has to be pixel perfect,also since the hit boxes from those barrels are just too big,if you just jump too early you will get hit by the barrels from it’s frontside but if you jump just slightly too late ,then you will get hit be the barrel from it’s backside,also jumping over gaps is a nightmare,if you just jump slightly too late then you will slide off the platform,but if you just jump slightly too early you might not get to that other platform,it’s just that awful,why those jumps has to be pixel perfect? Well i was able to beat the game but oh boy what was it freaking hard man,phew🤣
