In the shadow of Japan's famed peak lies a sustainable community cultivating over 250 organic crops. Read more on Mt. Fuji eco villages: ourworld.unu.edu/en/konohana/
I just returned from staying at Konohana! Everyone, please put away the labels we attach to meaningful events, lifestyles and people forever... they are stumbling blocks for us all from developing a deeper wisdom and understanding of the world around and IN us. Konahana is people (oringinally 6, now 80) who, 20 years ago, decided they wanted another lifestyle, in concert with nature with self and with each other. A real vibrant community, with love, self respect and mutual co-operation.
Great Ecovillage, I like your concept. Have you tried SRI rice cultivation: Dry, intensive organic, much less water demand. They use wider spacing with only 9 plants per m2 what makes half a kilo of rice from a single plant. Weeds are not suppressed by water so this system requires slightly more work.
I bet if you tag this as the real life reference behind Naruto's Konoha then this video would get a lot more exposure. We can all learn much from these people, it's a great model for any society if you ask me. Way better for my children then some of this crazy "Lets kill half the population and chip our own" ideas I've been hearing in the West.
Nice video. The people look very happy and they are apparently quite successful but if I think about myself I would never want to live like that. All this hippy/friendly/sustainable/globalwarming/ecofootprint gives me the creeps. Don't get me wrong I am all about using less energy and being more efficient but why does it always have to be with these leftist-hippy types?
