I spent over 20 years exploring that mountain. My daughters ashes were spread over Timothy Lake. That's my favorite place in the whole world!

Trillium lake is man made. My Father was the Chief Engineer for the ODFW. He built that lake. I have old photos of the area when it was just Trillium creek. I'm very happy you went to explore it.

Hope you see this comment...I know it's been years since this video came out. Those doughnuts ARE worth the wait! Most Oregonians are used to the rain as it rains about 8 months out of the year, or at least it used to (I live in Virginia now). Late June and September are the best time to visit, especially if you're hiking. If you ever get back to Oregon you need to check out Silver Creek Falls State Park near Silverton. On an 8 mile loop, you will find ten waterfalls, three of which the trail leads behind the waterfall. Two of the falls are over 170 feet. I've been to several states across the US and a handful of other countries, yet Silver Creek Falls is still at the top of my favorite places. Late June is best as there's more water in the creek and the waterfalls have more volume.

Nice video - I want to stay in that cabin. When we go back to Oregon, I think we'll skip Portland and just stay in the gorge and Mt. Hood. So gorgeous.

Oregon is unique in that you have the beach, coastal mountains, the Willamette Valley, the Cascades then the high desert, each with it's own ecosystem, climate, flora and fauna. I grew up in Oregon and miss it so much.

Those donuts ARE worth the 40 minute wait!! I live just outside of Portland and have had a few of them. Great video!!

My favorite is the maple glaze with bacon sprinkles. Only had doughnuts from there once and I still have fond memories eating them. We got two dozen and took them with us on our trip to Cannon Beach and the Arch Cape. One week in absolute heaven in the month of August and we could see the meteor shower from the rooftop deck. Memories to last a lifetime.

Wait wait wait... you were in Portland in 2017? It’d have been fun to bump in to you and Toby(?) It looks like you might have rented a lolo pass cabin. If you were over near zigzag. As for the waterfall... I was thinking you went to Ramona... but I decided it was one I’ve never seen. Y’all comeback and do the timberline trail that circumnavigates the mountain. And we can meet up for burgers in sandy at Calamity Janes... it’s make for a great vlog!

Wow, I'm from the Portland area! During the summer, we have seemingly endless hot and sunny days, but now that we're in October, it is getting very cold and wet. The mountains here (especially in Washington) can get very rugged, even compared to the Sierras. The North Cascades are the most rugged mountains in the Northwest, while Mount Rainier is the highest mountain in the northwest (14,411 ft.). I just did the flip of this; I backpacked in the Sierras and California this summer for the first time! Incredibly beautiful there! North Cascades National Park: www.nps.gov/noca/index.htm Mt. Rainier National Park: www.nps.gov/mora/index.htm

Not to sound like a hipster but those are fir trees not pine trees. I hope someone has informed you by now.
@samsmom1491
@samsmom1491 Год назад
Most people don't know the difference, though.
@8paradoxful
@8paradoxful Год назад
If you're from the south you're inclined to call them pine trees cuz that's what you got down there but up north here in the Pacific Northwest especially on the west/wet side of the mountains they generally are all fir trees. Those are the kind of trees that grow in a temperate rainforest.
@samsmom1491
@samsmom1491 Год назад
@@8paradoxful I grew up in Oregon and have had to tell people here on the east coast that there's a difference. There are Ponderosa pines, but like you said, they're mainly east of the Cascades. Every time I visit home, I hug a tree!

Oh yeah and those donuts are 100% not worth the wait.... we have way better Donuts than that one touristy trap donut place, but I'm not going to tell you where they're at. For the obvious reason I don't want to wait 40 minutes for donuts in my own town.
