Mt. Washington Experience - Windy, cold, amazing

Mt. Washington is home to some of the worst weather in the world. No joke. This New Hampshire mountain is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. But at just 6,288.2 ft (1,916.6 m) it dwarfs in comparison to the mountains out west. The extreme weather comes from a natural bottle necking of the the winds through the mountains and blast up the side of Mt. Washington causing extreme and deadly weather all year round.
This mountain is notorious for its dangerous and erratic weather. On April 12, 1934, the Mount Washington Observatory recorded a windspeed of 231 miles per hour (372 km/h) at the summit.
Since 1869, the Mount Washington Cog Railway has provided tourists with a train journey to the summit of Mount Washington. It uses a Marsh rack system and was the first successful rack railway in the US.

Awesome video as usual. Serious question, how did you get into doing your travels? How are they supported? Do you do this for a living as it were? I’d love to be able to travel around as much as you do.

That was really cool, thanks for sharing, awesome video. Can only imagine the hike down. Walked up Mg prospect auto road in Lancaster NH a few times and goin back down takes a toll on the calves. Another great place is Glen Ellis Falls in Pinkams Grant,NH all rock steps all the way down.

Hey Chris. I really like this one. Laughed out loud when you told us what motivated you to decide to hike down the mountain. You are the best guy. Please keep taking us places with you. Much love guy. It makes me think you might enjoy taking us down to the phantom ranch at the Grand Canyon on mules! It's fun!! Or you could hike back up from there. J

I went back into my pictures and found that I even took a picture of you filming while inside the car. How exciting to see so many years later! So glad you had a great trip up. Ps. Our trip down was a lot easier then yours.

I recently found your Channel. Love these videos and would like to watch them all. What a nice life you have and the way you take the opportunity to travel and see all these things. And document then and make videos and probably make good money through RU-vid? I just retired at 56 years old from being an electrical contractor and property manager, (for my own properties). I would love to accompany you and see all these things but I guess I'll have to be satisfied with the videos. LOL. I do not mind spending a few hours each day watching videos because I get to visit so many places and see so many things!! Good luck and stay safe!

Went up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail back in 2018, stopped at the Lakes of the clouds hut then onward. I had probably the best day of the year. Took the Cog down, best decision I could have made. It's such a satisfaction to hike it up compared to those who drove or took the rail up. Those hiking the AT say the Whites are one of the toughest part of their thru hike.

I don't think its in the actual video so I have it in the description. Its 6,288 ft Thats whats so amazing about the wind and weather up there. The mountain isn't that tall compared to out west but because of the position of the surrounding mountains and the bottle neck that occurs, it has some fierce weather. So cool up there! And thanks!

You should try a day hike the through Smoky Mt. National Park Thanksgiving Week, I recommend parking at the Newfound Gap trailhead, and trekking to Charlies Bunyan and Either heading along the boulevard trail into Gatlinburg or double back to Ice Water Springs, where you can tent camp, bear proof hang food, refill bladders/jugs with H2O, and cook at the fire pit, I advise packing lighter knot pine (fire starter) and some dry fire wood, ( I used cut dry black cherry as two oversized walking sticks and cut one up at camping shelter) stop at the spur on your way back to the car. Speaking of which, if you want to hike into Gatlinburg plan ahead theres a parking area and a shuttle bus that brings you right to the trail head! If youre going to go, hit me up, if Im not otherwise obligated I’ll tag along, I’ve travelled for a large percentage of the AT, and bar none, the most breathtaking fall views are in the Smokies, not to discount Ny State Nj Pa Mass a two shits, Vermont New Hampster Maine, Kentucky Va -Wv-Md Specifically the Shenandoah River Valley are bucket list material, but I say again, bar none other than following a late summer dry spell, the Smokies with the streams, waterfalls, high elevations and late leaf drop season makes for a color overload!

One thing ya missed but yet didn't, the trains face the same way up and down the mountain. Up the mountain they are pushing, down the mountain is a different story. The entire trip down is gravity. The train is just making sure it stays on the cogs and has no issues. The poor passenger cabin is a different story. Inside, the conductor who mainly talked all the way up is sitting at the front with two disks and a window looking straight down. The two disks are the brakes and it's his job to make sure the cogs on the cart hold firm and, more importantly, that the passenger car doesn't overtake the train. So what he's looking at is the train's buckle to the passenger car and weakening and strengthening the brakes to make sure the car doesn't overtake AND that he doesn't get so far away as to yank the car free. Overall, it's a rough job but it's interesting to watch.
@SpiritBear12

If I had to walk down Mt Washington, I would follow the road that the cars use. I would not risk making a bad step and wrenching my ankle up there, no way! I want to get off the mountain in one piece and in no pain. LOL I've been up there once, many years ago. I'd like to go again, but I would rather go by rail, but man is it pricey! How long did it take the train to get up the mountain? I guess that'll lern ya not to miss the train. LOL

The main COUNTY in texas that was meant to say. Nachadoches! That's the county that they considered ground zero and ran the entire search from for the wreckage of Discovery. That would be total edge of your seat video i think. Guarantee if you found out where the most debris was found and brought a metal detector that will detect aluminum you would find something overlooked! They didn't use metal detectors they just did sweeps with rows of people at 6ft apart but tons of that shuttle were never found so there's alot still out there. Now I'm not saying turn into a metal detecting show, lol, IM just saying i think you would find stuff really quickly that way and you would get TONS of views on that material. Especially if you dedicate it to the crew

Kinda cool as it reminds me of our own Snowdon (in Wales) rack and pinion mountain railway but this on a larger scale.But for the sake of headphone wearers everywhere who are now looking for new eardrums,please,please,please get a proper video mic that can have a windsock put on it.Or if you're using an action camera such as a Go Pro,Xiaomi or similar just put it in it's little waterproof case which will still let most of the voice through,but almost none of the annoying wind noise.
