Finally getting around to opening up the motor on this MT250 to replace the right hand crank seal only to find another surprise with the top end. Stuff that happens with 50 year old bikes!
Thanks! The top end stuff I’ve done, and I’ve watched enough videos and had the manual close by to figure out the bottom end. The true test will be putting it back together however!
Good job , very methodically done , that front sprocket looked well worn !! And the piston just about to go bang I think ! But the rest of engine looked great condition and will be good to go once all back together .amazed you can still get the OE seals and gear for the Honda .👍 . Great work .😁👍
Well done, methodical careful work and good camera positioning . lt looks like a good engine, not messed with by neanderthals. Just goes to show if somethings wrong, stop running the engine, this piston was about to make a real mess!
Thank your for the suggestion, but I already found NOS standard sized stuff since the jug is still in spec. Pretty much guarantees fitment so I figure I’d go that route. Thanks for the compliment too!
I can't say how much I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. You are very talented. I don't know how you know where every part goes on reassemble! I have a question for you. I like the lower seat height 2 stroke bikes. Would you prefer a 1973 Yamaha D3 Enduro over a 1975 Honda CR250 Elsinore? Your thoughts on each? Thanks again.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that! I had access to the shop manual via PDF and watched a couple videos too. Just took my time and moved slowly. Taking video really helps when putting back together too…I can review footage when I forget now something goes lol. As for what bike I prefer, I’m actually going to be taking my MT250 for its first trail ride here real soon so I’ll be able to give my honest opinion. I will say, the 1972 DT2 that I have will be hard to beat. That video will be out tomorrow. First real ride with that bike too. The CR250 does make more power than the MT250 so it’s got a power disadvantage there.
Yup just released it yesterday! I work on friends bikes and stuff from time to time. Don’t really have much workspace for a full blown shop and much outside work. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MJnPKLbbc3A.htmlsi=cy6TeJmMVHTLvMcd
vintage 2 stroke honda vs yamaha, which do you think ride better? cause The Yamahas look to be way easier to work on. All this for a crank seal! I have a couple dt 100s i've rebuilt, So easy.
I’ve had more vintage Yamaha 2 strokes over my one Honda MT250. I have to give it to the Yamahas. The ‘72 DT2 and ‘75 DT250B go so well in the woods. I’m a Honda guy too…The XR400 is probably my favorite bike of all time but I think back in the 70s, Honda didn’t really care much about the 2stroke market as they had the XL’s out already. Soichiro Honda himself wasn’t even invested in the 2strokes until they were forced to compete with the others for motocross. The motocross version of this motor is supposed to be waaaayyy better. I still like the MT, but I’d say the DT has it beat in the woods and for servicing.
