I’m kinda surprised Bri hasn’t gone to a Mondraker Dune or the Orbea Rise but I guess he’s a full on kinda dude no e-bikes allowed but it’s definitely a good idea 👍🏾
@@bkxc I’m still riding my Orbea Rise , having fun and being out there in nature, appreciate you guys so much for changing my life for the better and taking us along with your journeys, it’s so inspiring thank you 🙏
We do stretches for every other part of our body, but a lot of people forget about the hands. The hands are used the most. There are a lot of simple exercises to alleviate a lot of tendon pressure.
BK- this is why we love you and the channel. Too many YT channels edit out the "up" and the suffering. Your enthusiasm for the total adventure is infectious.
Re your comment on animals in Europe. Go ride in the Pyranees. Anywhere near Puigcerda, Font Romeu, Tremp, Pobla etc. Deer, Vultures, wild boar and much much more. Happy to advise more if interested - but look them up
My Grandmapa died from cancer. My aunt had cancer, now my uncle has had cancer for the 3rd time. To say im scared about cancer is an understatement. It's a constant conversation in my family. God Bless.
I hike all those trails regularly, including Elwell last Saturday. We started from Gray Eagle Lodge though and 2 years ago, we started from Jamison Mines. Both trails very steep, but the views are spectacular! I cannot imagine mt biking up there. Please be respectful of us hikers and our dogs when you meet us on the trail and we’ll do the same for you.😀
For the headset creak check the star nut in your fork. Even if it seems like the correct depth pound it down a tiny more. I had a similar issue in my yeti and this solved the problem. Just allows the headset bolt to hold torque a little better and helps eliminate any movement.
I had trigger finger in two fingers. I wasted a lot of time and money on physical therapists. They finally sent me to a hand surgeon, where I wasted more time and money with steroid shots. The surgeon wanted to cut the tendon sheaths that act as pulleys - I wanted nothing to do with that. I experimented with a lot of techniques to remedy the condition, but only one helped: Simply extend the finger as much as you can using its extensor muscles. Then, using your other hand or an immoveable object, slightly stretch the knuckle further into extension. (Extension is moving the straightened finger away from the palm.) Hold for a few seconds. Repeat several times per day. After the triggering fades to nothing, maintain by doing the same stretch at least once per day.
@@stanmustard7292an OT or PT is definitely worth the time. They will be able to give you personalized exercises that are going to help trigger finger. It’s a common problem. Finding a good OT is your best bet.
I had trigger finger in my thumb and the surgery was the best decision ever. If the "triggering" is constant surgery really is worth it. No amount of stretching or rest helped.
@@keelybradshaw1348 I've worked as a Hand Therapist. There are some therapy techniques that might help, but if it doesn't go away, surgery is an appropriate, safe, long-term solution.
Add spearmint essential oil to a spary bottle with water and spray anywhere you don't want wasps (e.g. decks, overhangs, and awnings). It keeps them away and makes it smell good lol
Your channel made me more aware of the Ibis brand! Picked up a Ripley AF and threw a 140mm fork on it and it’s an absolute machine! Perfect for the trails around Duluth MN and is capable at gnarly trails too at slower speeds, but climbs so good!
Hey Brian, I’ve been a fan of the channel for many years. Love what you do! I’m a physician. You’ve got what’s called trigger finger; it’s when there’s some inflammation of a nodule on your tendon of your finger; it makes it get caught when it goes under the pulley that keeps the tendon in place. Very common condition, I treat it all the time. You might start with some Voltaren gel over-the-counter. Apply it to the palm of your hand where you feel that it gets stuck (at the base of the finger); do this four times a day for two weeks and see if it helps (as long as you don’t have any conditions that preclude you from using NSAIDS.) If this fails I perform ultrasound guided trigger finger injections. I’m sure you could find a doctor near you that does this. I live in GA. You would want to try a couple of those injections before you consider surgery. I hope this helps! I’m sure we will shred together someday. Cheers, Tyler
Glad ya finally got out to ride that one. It was fun watching you walk the sections I did too! I was thinking if he cleans these climbs I'm gonna be blown away!
Great video as usual, beautiful bike and even more beautiful nature. BTW, I dunno if you noticed but either that was the moon or you were not alone. Check out the sky throughout the video.
Its great to periodically drop in to watch you and see you are still at it and happy Brian. Bummed to have missed that trip to Japan. We are heading back again if you miss the loam and convenience stores enough.
@26:23 Lots of options for water filters that are small enough to carry on a bike ride. In Colorado Springs, I never leave without it, as most of the trail systems in the area have a creek crossing or 4. I've been using the Platypus Quickdraw recently and have been enjoying it.
Hey Briann, why don’t you use a cycling computer like a Garmin? I’ve always found curious and interesting that you don’t have one mounted on your handlebar..
Yup. MTBing is definitely not for the impoverished. Even if you are trying to use it to recover from PTSD. Just fueling and hydrating yourself for regular MTB rides adds to your grocery bill alone. If your training to race, then its easily doubled. And thats not even discussing the clothing, bike upkeep, gear, and tools needed along the way. And then medical fees for when you get hurt. It's expensive to be a MTBer. I definitely figured out what all takes priorities in my life when I picked back up MTBing. Thanks for being real with us. Great video today. Very relatable. Love your journey.
Killer ride!! I’ve been riding a ton lately. You’re super motivating. I also picked up a new camera setup Insta360 X4. It’s been a blast putting short vids together. You’re the OG though.
Like with BBs creaking headset is usually due poor tolerances. Headset bearings are moving. Only way is a very thick grease in the seat. I even had to use resin glue on some bad frame. Best is to have a good quality frame, does not mean Branded frame. Branded frames nowadays are very often out of spec. Inspect your headset bearing seats very thoroughly. ✌️
Great vid man!👍. Re your full body scan, they’re good for seeing what might be under the skin in that moment, I don’t think it’s a good predictor of future problems. I had a genetic test a while ago (cancer seems to like my family), this test showed a genetic anomaly that predisposes me to certain cancers. Good to know so that i can take preventative measures or make some lifestyle changes.
The Iron Door just outside Graeagle would make an excellent alternate anniversary restaurant. Wife and I went up to shuttle Mt Hough and dinner there was fantastc!
Headset creek fix : use very very THICK grease. Get NLGI 3 grease all in the headset bearing area. The grease will work like a shock absorber between the frame and the bearings.
I was in North Berwick delivering furniture on Thursday, when we set off from Cumbria it was typical Lake District, pouring down. By the time we got to our destination it was sunny and absolutely perfect weather for mtb. I was checking Komoot every 10 minutes for the local trails I was missing out on riding. 😂
My ring finger on the right hand locks up all the time riding. Has even happened while I sleep. Keep forgetting at my yearly to bring it up with my Dr. since it's in January and I'm not rinding because of the cold. Sucks getting old.
I just cleaned and greased my headset up. Some dirt and moisture in there. It's been creaking. Fixed about ~ 90% of it. What do ya do... Also, Brian, I have tenosynovitis of my left thumb. I managed it with a change in behavior... meaning for you, what... stop holding onto the grip??? Wider grips? I also splinted my thumb in the extended position while sleeping. Sometimes, a soft splint throughout the day. Took time.
I must have just missed you I was there the same time that fire started, I tode up Mount Elwell on my ebike I can ride a lot more of the obstacles it was a little more on the fun side going up
Brian's Trail looks really beautiful and challenging. This reminds me of the area around Lindsay lake and car-feely, Long lake I guess that's grouse ridge it's been so many years since I wrote it have you been up around there? It's the road to go into Bowman lake off of 20 just about I don't know maybe two or four miles down from 80 towards Nevada City on 20 and you go in about I think it's 6 mi turn right and then Lindsay lake would be the first left if you keep going straight you hit car feely and all that back in there it's really beautiful we used to start at the gate at the top of car feel and then ride around tinner lake and then just kind of make our way down and through Long lake and around and then come back the road for us to do it again I'd probably go over first order cuz it's kind of an anti-climactic to bring a dirt road back LOL Yeah just wondering if you've ever ridden around there? Thanks for the awesome videos looking forward to meeting you guys one of these days up there at camp ever stroke 👊🤠
I really need to spend more time editing this terrible voice to text, but I made a mistake the gates at the top of Lindsay lake not Carr Feeley, and it's Penner not tinner lake.
Funny how you mentioned about a bear. I’ve hiked Mt. Elwell and the surrounding area for over 20 years. Last year over the Labor Day weekend, we accidentally startled two bear cubs near the trail. Momma Bear was not happy, and charged at us. You don’t realize how tiny you are until a large Bear gets up on its hind legs. I now carry bear spray 😐
I hear you talking about Graeagle! I’m from Scotland and my wife and I have been wanting to buy a place in Tahoe for years, but prices, crowds, HOA and other restrictions put us off. Could this really be an alternative!?
Mostly because some folks are new to MTBing and they should get the message: gloves are an essential safety component, I would suggest always wearing gloves. And sure, we could go down that long and opinionated road - "What about elbow pads, hip pads, knee pads & . . . " suffice to say, helmet and gloves should always be worn during any ride
Cars are the best way to drain your account. Mtb isn’t cheap your totally right but it’s okay. And I love the fact that I never have to leave my vehicle when a breakdown happens 😊 pick it up and walk worst case scenario
I think skills with Phil posted a video maybe a bout a month or so ago with a tip regarding the headset. I believe its the one where he is building up the red/yellow GT.
Do you not ride the the exie anymore? Curious when you reach for an easier climber vs the HD6 (seems overkill for this trail). Feel like you would have been a prime candidate to review the new ripley and ripmo. The ride along with Ibis founder on the Exie was one of my favorite videos of the year.
I feel like one of these days the lines are going to be blurred so much between acoustic MTBs and eMTBs that after a while you won’t be able to tell the difference, since the weight keeps going down, and the power keeps going up on eMTBs, heck, with wireless shifting and garmin computers ect. Your high-end acoustic bike is half eMTB already! When the weight is about as much as a light Enduro bike even when the battery is worn down, and you can still pedal it like a regular mountain bike I think that will be the shift and acoustic mountain bikes won’t ever be the same again.
I bet it is not your headset at all and is actually your fork csu creaking. I changed and greased my headset a few times before narrowing it down. Fox38 as well
Hey Brian. Another great video. Keep it up! Beckwourth Peak trail, even tho not complete is worth a ride just to see the rock work they’ve done and are still doing to finish it. Crazy stuff. Ride it clockwise. And fun to meet you at the Lair a few weeks ago- Chris from @lostsierrawineco. Cheers!
