The third stop of my BC mountain bike trip this year is Golden. Mount 7 is a world wide known spot for avid Mountain Bikers and has a variety of trails including Dead Dog, the World's Steepest Trail. We rode it in the past, but this time things took a different turn...

That's wild. I really appreciate you making the note "this isn't safe" and "it's not worth it" then refocusing to walk down. The most important trail of the day is the next one!

And then just acknowledging that it's also a confidence thing, once you lose confidence in yourself, you're better off walking. This doesn't happen much to Remy, but for all of us mere mortals it happens more regularly when we encounter something at our limits. Once you lose confidence, if you just push through and keep riding that's when bad things can happen. I think because you naturally stiffen up and/or back off your bike which is the exact opposite of the loose & centred position you need to be able to ride safely.

Absolutely one of the most high consequence trails around AND one of the toughest to ride. There is a limit, and Dead Dog sits riiiight on it. Crazy to think people used to ride these on ancient bikes with ancient technology, going faster than any one of us ever would these days! Even crazier to think Johnny Helly did it in like 34 seconds or something... Awesome video Remy, good choices and exciting ride afterwards!

On camera it doesn't look that steep but just hearing Remy say that it is not safe. I love that Remy puts safety before fun and making a video. This reminded me when Remy went with Seth on the white trail and Remy said that it is not worth it to risk your life just for a video.

When your camera points back up the trail, it is much more clear just how steep this trail is. When you look back and talk with him, you can see that he is ten feet away, but 15 feet above you. That is not a trail, it is a MTB free fall jump 🙂

Even at the best of times you have to be so precise on that trail - not too much braking at the wrong time or instant back wheel slip out. I rode it in dusty summer and that top layer of dirt was like ball bearings. In rain legit seems impossible

@@tekjim Come on. I used to be an extreme skier and the standard was if you are standing straight up and reach your arm straight out and can touch the slope it is at 50° (or more). Unfortunately i found mountain biking late in life and will never be the rider that i am a skier. But if you are in the ballpark that is amazing.
@tekjim
@tekjim 4 дня назад
@mrsmartypants_1 I just did the maths and that would have to mean your fingers touch the ground when standing up (including bindings and ski height). If you can touch the snow from the side you would be well over 60degrees. Kudos for riding something so gnarly!!!

GoPros are awesome but I really wish they would, somehow, capture how steep are some terrains. Sometimes I show videos to my family of me descending some really steep hills but they barely notice it and I even have to tell them. Hopefully someday they will improve and get closer the human eye and brain which are able to perceive steepness.

Hey Remy, throughout your riding career have you of any of your riding friends suffered a traumatic straddle injury? I’m really just curious to hear from anyone who has experienced it, I suffered this type injury on the Labour Day long weekend and it seems to be quite a rare injury that’s basically isolated to cyclists, gymnastics and children. I recently came back to riding after over a decade off and started riding this spring to be down already, at least it’s super cool to dive into your channel and see so many unique places.
