Yoo thanks a lot, appreciate that! Upload schedule should be more consistent going forwards now that I've had some time to get a feel for the format and work on a bunch of different decks.
Your deck techs are amazing, Alth, and they really show how good of a player and deckbuilder you really are. Thanks for sharing your lists and explaining your thought processes!
Hey, nice to have a new video from you! Very impressive deck. I've been enjoying timeless since it was released. I've been playing rakdos with blood moon in the main deck along with sheoldred and the one ring and was pretty successful. But definitely trying out you deck, i've wanted to try titan/field of the dead combo, and i think your list is the one. Keep it up man, and really looking forward to your next videos, don't take it too long
Yoo thanks a lot, appreciate that! Yeah Rakdos with Moon and Ring has looked pretty good whenever I've faced it, definitely seems like a good way to build the deck. Cheers, hope you like the deck, and now I've got a good feel the format and already have a lot of other decks prepped I should be able to upload more regularly now.
Glad to see you post something, i kinda figured the delay was due to timeless coming out. Just a thought, after the format has had time to flaten out a bit and you get to playing a bit more inwould love it if you could assemble a sort of intro video to the format, just something going over some of the predominant tech and strategies that you have seen and are available in the format and the strengths and weaknesses of them. Id be very interated in something like that its intimidating thinking about buying into a format just to get blindsided and find out that the deck you built for it was a bad investment. Keep up the great content as always, thats my comment, I'm already subbed and I'm dropping a like rn 👍 cheers!
Yoo thanks a lot! Ah interesting yeah that's not a bad shout, I'm going to be working on the Timeless Bo1 & Bo3 tier lists for MTGAzone soon so I could do a video to tie in with that which would cover that if I have time.
Always a joy to see a deck video from Alth; regardless of a deck’s top rank, I know I can trust it to be carefully thought out and interesting to play.
Great content as per usual, have been waiting for your first take on timeless. Thank you for such in depth analysis. Would love a gameplay upload if you have the time. Merry Christmas
Solid deck. I have one suggestion for some extra spice + lifegain + reach. Exchanging blast zone with westvale abbey. Westvale abbey and field of the dead are a neat combo and the transformation is pretty easy to pull off.
Would love to see more gameplay videos! Just watching some additional matches with a deck you've covered, or seeing different iterations with more gameplay would be very cool.
Yeah I think Veil is a good option but it'd probably be competing for slots with the Thrun/ Carnage Tyrant, and I generally prefer having more threat density/ diversifying my threats against counterspell heavy decks rather than trying to use Veil to force Titan through which is a bit harder to set up. Veil is obviously less narrow since it's also good against discard spells but I feel like the maindeck is already pretty good vs discard spells because you have a lot of redundancy for your top end off Titan/ Empath/ Ouat etc so I don't tend to sideboard much vs black midrange (apart from Blood Moon variants where I bring in Frillback) so Veil would mainly be for counterspells where I prefer the extra uncounterable threats. Hope that makes sense!
May I recommend a Sandstalker moloch on the side board kind of like a veil of summer deal in terms of anti blue/black but instead it's a flash creature that top 4s the library for a green permanent good for finding titan or a land.
Great deck tech and would love to see you post more matches. I've been running a Death & Taxes build with a bunch of hate cards in the sideboard to some degree of success against the meta in Bo3. It can't beat Titan Field though. After 10 losses to variants of this deck, I'm just going to play it instead. :)
Yoo thanks and will do! Death & taxes is definitely something I wanna try out, it's just annoying that Bowmasters makes it tough to run stuff like Sentinel & Thalia.
What are your thoughts on playing 1 demonic tutor and 4 assemble the team? It requires dipping into black, perhaps instead of white, but increases consistency even more. Great deck tech and a really fun deck to play!
Ahh yeah that's something I did consider actually and does seem like a decent alternative. My main concern with Assemble vs Scrying/ Empath is that you can't use it to find 1 ofs like Boseiju vs Blood Moon or Generous Ent/ Craterhoof/ Titan of Industry and Empath being a creature also makes Natural Order live a lot more often. Additionally I think it'd be difficult to splash both black and white together and the white sideboard cards have been very important at improving your trickier matchups so overall I prefer Scrying & Empath but Assemble and Demonic Tutor definitely has it's upsides.
Would you consider this deck to be relatively easy to play compared to some of the other decks in the format? I've never played a format where Brainstorm, Bauble, and Fetches were all legal at the same time, so the intricacies of those lines are extremely intimidating. For reference, I have primarily played decks like Mono Green Devotion in Explorer and, more recently, the Cascade decks in Historic.
Yeah I definitely think this deck is easier to pilot than the cantrip heavy decks where there's a ton of small decisions. There is still a learning curve with this list in terms of mulligans and which lands to fetch with Titan/ Scrying or creatures off Empath (especially against Blood Moon decks) but I'd say overall this is easier to pilot than most Brainstorm decks, especially if you're familiar with Mono Green Devotion since there are similar play patterns.
I didn't pay that much attention during the deck tech, so forgive me if I missed it, but did you consider tyrranax rex as a natural order target? Possibly over carnage tyrant in the sideboard
Yeah I went back and forth on that a few times actually and had Tyrannax Rex in the Carnage Tyrant slot for a while. I think Rex is the much better card overall but being a mana extra made me lean more towards Carnage Tyrant since the deck can pretty consistently get 6 mana on turn 4 off Citadel + Garenbrig so you can curve Empath into Tyrant whereas Rex is a turn slower and requires an extra land drop. I always board in the uncounterable creatures in place of Natural Order vs counterspell heavy decks (since Natural Order is really bad into counterspells) so using Natural Order into Rex never comes up. Hope that makes sense!
@@mtgazonecomyeah that makes sense, watching the video right now and it definitely seems like natural order for titan would be better in pretty much every situation in this deck. I was playing rex in one of the gruul natural order/minsc and boo decks and there it was really good at closing the game so I was a little biased.
I think Haywire mite is a better sideboard option than the tranquil frill back as it’s able to remove blood moon with only one basic Forrest in play as the Frillback needs two.
Ahh yeah I saw that but it starts 2am my time so I can't play in this one. Definitely gonna keep my eye out for future events though cos Timeless has been so sick!
You mention not finding a suitable hate card for Sneak/Order. Would Containment Priest be a viable option or is it too fragile? Great video as always man, deck looks fun and I'll be giving it a spin.
Yoo cheers and thanks for the suggestion! I did consider Containment Priest but it is quite fragile and also stops your own Natural Order which was a bit of a dealbreaker for me.
Awesome content, I dont play historic, dont play timeless and for sure dont play alchemy, and even do I play the most toxic deck in standart, and have a winrate over 77% most of the time over 80% Im one step to erase mtg for the 10th time I still will continue waching your videos, you are awesome man
@@GeenoBilly azorius control with jaze and mindbreaker, only mono red on the play with good draw, another azorius control or a really bad hand can beat this deck
Will do! Yeah this was a bit of an exception cos Timeless was so new and took me a while to figure out but I should hopefully be back on a much more regular upload schedule from now on.
Would 100% LOVE to see more casual play style videos, or under the meta type videos where you record yourself playtesting different decklists to improve them, or more of your ladder climbing journeys. More gameplay with the same decks is always welcome! I completely understand wanting to keep this a high-effort deck guide channel since that is what sets it apart, but if you wanted to have a higher content output i reckon go for it :)
Yeah I do always plan to do that sort of thing but then tend to get sidetracked trying to refine better lists until I'm happy with them. Doing more Under the Meta and Brews from Scratch videos is definitely something I want to return to in the new year though so that's great to hear!
Ah nah I didn't mention that in the video, the main reason is that I feel like Primeval Titan and Titan of Industry cover both bases where you'd want Atraxa without taking up anymore slots. If you're at parity and don't need a card to stabilize against flyers or answer Blood Moon then you'd rather get Primeval Titan off Natural Order the majority of the time, and Titan of Industry is really good at stabilizing against flyers whilst also answering Blood Moon which gives it an edge over Atraxa so overall I don't feel Atraxa is really worth a slot since space is tight in the deck and both Titans cover most of the bases anyway. I could potentially see an argument for running Atraxa in the sideboard to help find your hate cards like Deafening Silence/ Stone Brain etc but I usually bring in Craterhoof to try and close out games vs combo faster and I'm not sure there's really space either without trimming the anti-counterspell cards. Hope that makes sense!
Yoo my bad! It took me a while to figure out Timeless cos it was all brand new but I should be able to upload more consistently now that I've got a feel for the format and had more time to work on different decks.
Great to see you bring a strategy that goes over the top of the midrange decks. I've seen so much midrange on the ladder and was thinking about a field of the dead list and I wasnt sure what list I should craft but after seeing your video I think I will definitely go with your list. Would also be very interested in seeing more gameplay if you have more recorded. Keep up the great work.
Sweet good to hear! Yeah that's a good shout actually, I never really felt it was worth making a new video on an older deck if there were only a couple of tweaks to the list but if people want dedicated gameplay vids then that seems like a great place to do that
@@mtgazonecom I craft most of the historic decks you play (and now this timeless one). For me (and I assume others that follow you) the great thing about revisiting older decks is that they are kept fresh. I really like some of them, for example I still play your thopterblade and metatect decks even though they are now almost a year old.
Ahh yeah of course, I keep missing that sort of thing. The amount of times I've tried to play around Blood Moon when the opponent is on Lurrus is embarrassing haha
I think it's actually correct to NOT pass to his 2nd main phase there, as counterintuitive as it may be. He briefly mentions this, but the Kami didn't really matter at all there, so baiting the opponent into using Drown in the Loch in it, rather than letting them save it for later, was actually a good play. So giving the opponent the opportunity to misplay, which the opponent did do, was the correct play. That's a higher-level play, so the majority of players will never get to a level where they realize this.
@@benyseus6325Oppo countering / responding to a kami Is always good for Alth especially with a titan in hand that he could already cast on board, so not a bad play
@@lukeleicht1170 you realize that the opponent messed up by floating blue there right? He wanted to counter fierce empath but counted the gy wrong. Passing priority would have forced the opponent to either a) waste their mana, b) drown in the loch destroy one of his 1 drops. And the opponent was 100% poising to destroy his 1 drop because in this hyper fast format, not using your mana and being mana inefficient is about the worst thing you can do. Instead he provided a target to counter, so yes awful play. I guarantee to you if anyone pointed it out that he could’ve just passed to second main to resolve his kami, he would have. Y’alls are encouraging a bad play in hindsight which is even worse, Lolz
@@benyseus6325why would opponent 100% want to destroy a 1 drop… I get it’s mana efficient to do so but that’s still an awful play. You would rather allow opponent to hold the drown for later, or force opponent to use drown on a useless Kami.
@@lukeleicht1170 use drown in the loch on what?? He would have had 2 cards in his graveyard and prime time costs 6 LMAO. You do realize that the opponent is also an idiot by pairing DRS with drown in the loch? That’s why he messed up trying to counter his empath, Plus Kami would have let him ramp harder. 🥱
No one who plays this game regularly cares about what rank you got with a deck LOL - dude literally waits till he gets rank to post stuff like hes flexing lol - most of us who play have been #1 Mythic in constructed its not hard like limited - put out more content lol.
