This deck is really a testament to how good magic design has been lately (besides the really pushed bannable cards) each piece of this deck fits nicely with the others because they were meant to fit nicely with each other. Magda and sentinel, sentinel and innkeeper, dispute and ghast were designed with these interactions in mind almost certainly. The really good design comes from chariot copying any token and Magda allowing any dwarf to tap. And LVDs deck building shines becuase he is able to make these small synergies work within a larger deck especially with cards they weren’t so clearly meant to be paired like maskwood nexus and swarming. Not to mention his commentary is making me a better player! Thanks wizards and lvd you make the game worth loving
Actually this resembles "Junk" deck more than any combo decks. There are no deep synergy inside it. You just put a bunch of "good-stuff" cards that generates best value for a little investment, and voila. It worked by itself.
@@nurikhsan8821 A good stuff deck would have been filled with rares, mythics and tournament staples. Nobody uses Skeletal Swarming or Maskwood Nexus in serious deck building. How do you even say a deck is filled with both junk and good stuff at the same time? I think you don't understand the meaning of the word synergy.
Update: damn this deck is fun. Playing against meta-decks in Mythic and they just don't see this shit coming. They'll all enjoying themselves building up their lifelink armies, and then your like; 'nah, I'll be taking a while with this next turn, go make yourself a cup of tea!'... 10 minutes later, you've cycled through 4 chariots, gained a bunch of life and have a Koma on the board tapping all their 10/10s. I'm currently 7-1 (87% win rate) Really nice synergy here. I actually snuck one copy of Koma in - it's incredibly easy to cast with all the treasure + Nexus/Magda combo, and it can completely shut down the opponent because you can use any creature to sac in order to tap opponent creatures.
Funnily enough back when I was voting on Maskwood Nexus for the Patreon poll I was glancing at the Skeleton Swarming option and thinking "ït'd be interesting if the Nexus used Swarming in it though" and now that I see the video... surprise surprise. Legend never disappoints.
Really wonderful deck construction! The interaction with Magda + Nexus + Chariot blew my mind. You have an impressive combination of creativity and skill that are very entertaining to watch!
You're aware removal can come in the form of creatures too right? Plus the concept of this deck is hardly looking control the opposing board. It's a blitzing aggro deck. I'd also argue this was specifically built for best of 1. In best of 3 you could sideboard removal. So I don't understand why you have an issue with there being a lack of spot removal in the deck. A 5-2 token on T5? I think in the majority of matchups that becomes removal, not a chump. Wait I've just noticed the irony that you're a Saltzman. I get it now.
its hard for some people to understand that there is more fun in casual decks than tournament decks....these people tend to not have friends or casual magic play groups.
@@apocratos0174 Hey I love control! Please don't use that as the teardown. 😂😂 If he plays control, I'd imagine it's rather poorly. Because control requires you to understand card value, and this man doesn't value ability of creatures as removal.
This is such a great deck. Enormous amounts of synergy and nice combo aspects, but it doesn't play out the same way every game and has many different angles of attack. Great work.
This reminds me of a pretty mad combo I made in 2022 standard. Maskwood nexus, Magda, ashaya and moraug. Basically the creatures are lands so they can tap for mana which creates a treasure and because a land creature entered the battlefield moraug makes an additional combat phase which untaps all your land creature dwarfs so you get enough untaps and retaps to create a ton of treasure and get all your creatures out in basically a turn. I like to think I’m the kind of jank.
Oh man, this deck oozes the good kind of jank. I stopped playing constructed earlier this year (draft only now) - but this kinda wants me to try it out again, looks so much fun.
Aren't Swarm is too slow in this deck without landfall support tools? I know that you could easily generate tons of them, I used them too, but in a mutate-based deck that could just dish out like 5-10 lands if things go right... And here you just trigger Swarm once a turn... But yeah, I quess its eat up removals, but I, in example, more liked Koma variant because it could generate 2 tokens per turn rotation without landfall, perfect "win more" type of effect that clog up opponent nearly entierly and, with Magda, it is pretty easy to pull off. Plus, as I think, this point is pretty important, because yeah, rn you could start comboing chariots and others if you get some main components for it, but IMHO sometime this combo could run out of gas and most powerfull card that you could pull off with "last Magda trigger" is... Well, chariot, because all other stuff is small creatures and you mainly don't need another Nexus. And swarm is not perfect either - you put them out, maybe trigger landfall for them... And that it. But if you put out Koma... Well Maybe you know what?.. Maybe you could even add both? IDK about Swarms, but Koma is definetly just a 1-2 copies pick here, maybe you could cut something out...
@@Dreadnote-pf7of Koma could work well, but I've found Beledros as a better combo. He's a dragon, which means he can come out via Magda treasure sac, and he makes tokens every upkeep so there's always a blocker that may be enhanced by the Swarm.
Started going back and watching your old drafts. Its amazing how good the gameplay of a draft can be to watch. Honestly as someone who does not play limited I had no idea.
What an amazing deck, love it! You're wrecking my wildcards though, happened with the Jund 'em out deck and the Volo's Ark one but I'm having a ton of fun. Thanks!
I’ve been playing this exact shell except with lolth and blood on the snow. Removing those two and adding sentinel/Magda takes this deck to new heights. Nice! Thank you, it feels properly synergistic now. Find oneself on their heels less often.
maskwood nexus is one of my overall favorite cards from recent sets. even going further back in the past it's hard to find a card that allows for a similar level of chaos.
Holy shit, this is the deck I've been trying to make work. You laid it out there perfectly and I can't wait to put this together and try it for myself. Great video!
Same here! Been using Mikaeus as my skeleton commander, but would really like an actual legendary skeleton who cares about other skeletons instead of discard and infect!
Absolutely amazed by the synergies in this deck. Match 1 was hilarious. 9:00 Opponent at 23 life plays [[Tasha's Hideous Laughter]], Legend now has 21 cards left, Opponent attacks with [[Demilich]], Replays [[Tasha's Hideous Laughter]] from the graveyard, Legend now has 5 cards left, Legend's turn, Play out another [[Skeletal Swarming]], Attack, Crew [[Esika's Chariot]], Copy a skeleton, And opponent is dead at -23. BOOM! That was some montage worthy stuff. #MTGTop5 worthy!
This deck looks like so much fun. There are so many random toolbox pieces you could add to as additional things to fetch with Magda, for example Hofri Ghostforge will give your entire team haste, trample and +1/+1 in addition to saving Magda from a removal spell in response to it. Or Phylath which instantly pays for itself if you have 5 lands and Chariot and keeps the chain going for free.
Oooh, another good one is Moraug, who if you have a land in hand will reset your entire team after using them with Magda/Chariot and give you two attack steps.
Great stuff! You're not the first to make a deck around the Skeletal Swarming/Maskwood Nexus combo, but I believe your use of Magda has finally made it viable and not janky!
Bwahaha. This made my morning. Thanks so much for putting this together. I've been wanting to put some shenanigans together with maskwood nexus, skeletal swarming, and rampage of the valkyries for a while but don't have enough swarmings yet. Thanks for once again putting together such a work of art that makes these kinds of strategies actually playable.
I love this, really well done! As many of the other comments have already pointed out - everything works together so well. Brilliant design. I'm really keen to make this now when I have enough wildcards since it looks so fun.
omg another absolutely brilliant deck. I'm making this RIGHT NOW. That makes it the 3rd list I'm running based on the skellys hahaha Match 6 is a master class on how to play MTG, amazing. Loved the pun at the end too hahaha
I‘m surprised nobody is writing about it, but the editing at 43:40 is hilarious. Nice of you to make your humiliated opponent unrecognizable (especially their face ;) ).
I'm having an absolute blast playing this deck, the amount of value and synergy is INSANE. My favourite thing has been surprising lifegain decks, a few turns of chumping their clerics then the combo goes online and in a single turn I create a dozen treasures and drop a full board of tramplers. I'm experimenting with a single copy of Phylath just to put him in play with Magda's ability. It feels a bit "win more" but it's fun.
Fantastic inovative deck with multiple playstyle options. That Sentinel+Magda+Nexus combo is probably the strongest way to generate a ton of treasures early in the game. I made this deck with some minor changes because i just have 2 copies of Skeletal Swarming and don't wan't to sac wildcards for the sake of so i added 2 Goldspan Dragons and 1 Inferno of the Star Mount (also cutted 1 Skullport Merchant) for Magda to fetch something powerfull hasty and to give the treasures more value and i have to say this deck is a BOMB!
magda searching for somethign seems to be easily doable in this deck. why not put in 1-of bombs that can swing the board state, or fetch skeletal swarming/nexus?
@@joedoe7572 Not yet. Either the opponent scooped after casting Inferno or he was already almost dead and the 6/6 (+x/+0) was just enough to finish him. Have just played 8 games so far with this deck (7/1 wins).
It feels like the deck needs 2 more cards as pay-offs. Looks great, for bo3 probably could make a switcheroo for goldspan or some hard to remove bomb...
I recreated this deck and man, it is a blast. If the first Skeletal Swarm survives, and you draw that Maskwood and all of a sudden all the creatures have 13 power and trample. Glorious! And sometimes you can even win with just the Chariot too.
Man, always read your own cards! I didn't even clue in until now that you could search up artefacts. That makes the deck even more lethal because I am always drowning in treasure but I only have two Maskwoods. Being able to tutor them is great!
I just had an amazing game. one of those mono white lifelink bastards, but magda and merchant ramped me into swarming, on turn 6 i had 5 treasures, attacked and fetched the nexus after he didnt even care to block. I went from dealing 9 dmg to 45. that. was. so. satisfying. edit: btw, I really like how clean this deck looks: just 9*4 cards plus lands, thanks LVD!
First game i played and was a blast (took forever for me to find my first Skeleton Swarm, but was able to build quite the board and that became a bomb!
What makes this deck NOT jank is the fact there's so many redundancies and minor advantages to get ahead on your opponent but once you get your hands on the top end or Magda...good lord. The deck just goes absolutely NUTS! This is a crazy deck! Jund'm out, Jund'm out, Jund'm out!
Brilliant stuff hehe. Would be cool to add one or possibly two other Lords that buffs the team in some way that magda can get in case the skellies are hiding in the deck.
@@LegenVD yeah true. Maybe elvish warmaster is in the same category. The vampire that gives all your creatures deathtouch is interesting. Ashaya to make super ramp. Perhaps the goblin that pumps team 1 and sacrifice a goblin to destroy an artifact. Think I'll try some stuff out myself in one spot! 😁
I literally came to this video to comment saying you should do magda and maskwood nexus since i just built one. And first cards i notice are those two. What a beautiful coincidence
Crazy deck, tried it out in the standard all access as i dont have enough rare wildcards (yet) only played a couple of games, my opponent stuck to the end though at the pure majesty of it, was digging for ages to find the skeleton swarming and then bam, everything was 18-20 trample.
Have you considered adding The World Tree to the manabase? With all that treasure you might be able pull off the 'ol Nexus+World Tree combo from time to time :)
I'm really impressed by Jaspera Sentinel in this deck. On top of normal ramping and Magda shenanigans, its ability to hold back your creatures which would otherwise be forced to attack by Nexus/Swarming combo is a great failsafe. Really great inclusion.
Feels like this deck could use some kind of tutor target that just lets you end the game once you've assembled the Magda+Maskwood combo. A one of Battle cry goblin for haste and pumping the team might be spicy.
I considered the Battlecry Goblin, but the mana didn't quite work for it. Given that Magda + Nexus is only one of many combos I'm not sure we need a dedicated finisher for that particular scenario.
With Maskwood Nexus, Squad Commander could be extra spicy before attackers are declared. Phylath World Sculptor could be a fun "surprise I have a ton of extra skeletons" but this deck only runs 10 basic lands, but then every extra skeleton means a ton of damage.
Do you really feel like you a need 3 whole mountains on top of 8 pathways that give red only to play Magda in deck with so much treasures and Sentinel? Also, what do you mean at 21:55 by "merchant only sac treasures"? Not sure why you didn't crew the Chariot to sac it instead either.
I am gonna build a standard deck out of it. some suggestions with the sideboard? i wanted to add the queen spider planeswalker into the main deck. too.
What about a version of this deck with scute mob and skeletal swarming. You could get so many “skeletons” with scute mob and the nexus it would very quickly overwhelm the opponent. It even curves into it. Scute is a 3 drop, nexus a 4 drop, swarming a 5 drop.
The fact that you one-shot that sh** blue mill deck.......ORGASMIC to watch! GOSH THAT WAS SATISFYING TO SEE, that's my kind porn right there. Such a pro! Total Respect. :)
@@Sol0666 Ooh you mean Death Baron? I honestly thought he was much older for some weird reason. But yeah giving your Skeletons Deathtouch *and* Trample would be fucked.
I don't think it can get any more busted than this 😅 I dropped two Esika's Charriots and threw in two Goldspan Dragons. I don't think any deck can beat a flying 20/4 skeleton dragon with trample... and haste.
