im also new (MTGA) and i wonder, are we supposed to wait to craft anything now until the set drops,if these are all longer dated cards? also are these all reprints and if so will we get dual lands because as a new player wasting a wildcard on just a land is not fun lol, esp if they will rotate out
In the deckbuilder, use filters to explore cards. You can search specific formats and which cards are legal; standard, explorer, brawl, etc. Make sure in the the filter options, select “not collected”, in addition to collected in order to reveal all the cards in that format you haven’t yet procured. I would suggest saving ALL wildcards until you know roughly what you want you’re looking to build. Search online “mtg standard meta” or something like that and check out the current hotness. Replace standard with something else, if you’re into a different era. I draft a lot and get all my wildcards and enjoyment from primarily drafting, but I craft a constructed deck from time to time for quests or for shits. I have hundreds of rates and mythics that I should really start using for different deck builds, but I’m a draft junkie for real 😬
I refuse to believe MTG has never printed a card called Bulk Up. Just looking at the preview card and art, there's no way this wasn't first printed in some early 2000's pre mirrodin set and Dev just missed it 😂
@@guillermogongorafigoli4542 double power/double strike for 2 mana has been standard legal for fucking decades now. Bulk Up is a straight downgrade of what we have.
So Dev, been trying to update your push pull deck from MKM and the biggest new addition is the screaming nemesis, it’s crazy when you have two of them on board and discard an Etali to I’ll timed explosion and watch them take 14 to the dome with no hope of gaining any back. Originally wanted to try the calamity/boilerbilges combo with it, but that doesn’t happen half as much the screaming nemesis, KO, been a patron since July, your definitely my favorite magic channel.
with doubling season, you can't win with vraska big minus like you can with innkeepers talent, because it still just adds the 9 poison counters to your opponent, not 18
I've been playing on and off since 4th edition, and I've recently returned after a few years away. This set looks absolutely incredible. Duskmourn is cool, but this is much more like the MTG I remember.
@@vaettra1589 universes beyond. Things like Fallout cards and Ass Creed cards. The thing they said would never be standard legal and only be used for supplemental products
24:30 On turn 4 with a 1 drop 2 drop, 3 drop and a token of almost any kind (for 0), assuming your opponent answered one of those, draw 3 for 3 is good enough imo. If you find yourself prefer another 4 mana play it's likely you draw 4 next turn. I think that's very good. Opponents interfering will really screw you with this card.
Burst Lightning has been my most wanted reprint for years. It's a great tool in Big Red decks and if we just get Koth of the Hammer on Arena eventually I will die happy.
High fae is nuts, if you you hold just her up and a 1 or 2 mana card at your opponents end of turn you are sitting really pretty. Dimir looks even stronger.
A thing I think that's overlooked regarding Scrawling Crawler is that it's specifically *your* upkeep, and both your and your opponent's draws are tied to the same trigger. A lot of effects like this often are additional draws during a player's own upkeep. So it's common to see opponent's essentially get free value, or choose when to remove it to get the benefits. The fact that this is a rare case where you are the first to benefit from its effect means that it might actually be helpful for the reach of certain decks.
It's so weird that Fishing Rod requires tapping the creature *and* tapping Fishing Rod. I'm guessing it's a holdover and, at one point, Fishing Rod only had to tap itself for its bait ability instead of giving it to the equipped creature. Otherwise unless there was some sort of OP untap shenanigans I can't see a reason (plus I have a hard time imagining any untap strategy that wouldn't be much more broken with many other cards).
Painful Quandary is the ultimate esper control wincon. Its the perfect balance of making the opponent miserable but not miserable enough that they just scoop and end your fun.
Something I like about the Muldrotha reprint is the creature type. It's an elemental which Nissa can find. And it's an avatar, so Cavern of Souls gets to pull double duty with the overlords.
Koma looks awesome, doubling season will definitely see some play with niche midrange tokens and superfriends decks... the fairy looks fun and electroduplicate is basically twinflame with flashback so it'll be a part of some crazy combo.
You can tell the rarity and set by looking at the text in the bottom left corner of the card. It's much easier than trying to squint at the expansion symbol.
I think the two toughness on High Fae just kinda kills it unfortunately, along with just the fact that like. In the decks you'd want it most of the best cards have flash and being cute with enchantments and stuff just isn't gonna get you there because boy is it gonna be rough to have them and not her in hand. I also think Koma is way more likely to see play than doubling season, though they might actually see play in the same deck which is a DELICIOUS idea to me. It's a different kind of simic nonsense than Uro/Oko/Nadu but to be honest I have a feeling it might be busted in two
I'll just say that it's not as hard to make Lunar Insight playable as it may seem. Just play any nonland permanent that makes a token, except Overlord of the Hauntwoods, and you've got a Divination.
It breaks my heart to agree with Wizards about lightning bolt. 5 years is to much time for a card like that. It changes the power level of any format its in. Probably see it in another set later, but it shouldn’t be here.
How does Lunar Insight work with rooms? Say that 1 drop room that surveils 2. Is that 1 mana value or 2 different values. My intuition thinks it's only 1 unless I unlock the other room but I'm not sure.
While on the battlefield, it’s the combined mana value of all unlocked doors. Take Dollmaker’s Shop//Porcelain Gallery for example. If the left is unlocked, it’s 2. If the right is unlocked, it’s 6. If both are unlocked, it’s 8. (If none are unlocked, it’s 0.)
This should help, and yes by the looks of it it will only see what doors are unlocked. 709.5. Some split cards are permanent cards with a single shared type line. A shared type line on such an object represents two static abilities that function on the battlefield. These are “As long as this permanent doesn’t have the ‘left half unlocked’ designation, it doesn’t have the name, mana cost, or rules text of this object’s left half” and “As long as this permanent doesn’t have the ‘right half unlocked’ designation, it doesn’t have the name, mana cost, or rules text of this object’s right half.” These abilities, as well as which half of that permanent a characteristic is in, are part of that object’s copiable values.
@@kristiandahl1310 So while in your graveyard, rooms have no mana costs? Or does it count as a 0. I'm thinking for things like Embodiment of Agonies or for collecting evidence.
@@vulcanh254 The mana cost of a split card is determined by its two halves combined. For example, the mana cost of Fire//Ice in your graveyard is {2}{U}{R}, the same as the mana cost of Ral’s Outburst. (2019-07-12) Pulled right from Emobdoiment's rules notes.
I really don't think doubling season will do much. Too much mana, and it has to last a turn in a format that, at least currently, has quite a bit of enchantment removal
I also feel like Raid is really nice in a set that is meant to introduce people to the game. One of the toughest things to teach players in my experience is the value of casting spells in the second main phase, and I think raid will help a lot with that
It's funny that you ignored that Doubling Season also doubles tokens, and being able to play that flash faerie, flash in doubling season, and flash in the new Koma to give him pseudo haste and get eight 4/4 coils is pretty nuts.
