Today we are revisiting one of the cards that is the most dear to me and we are discussing if it makes sense to upgrade your high-end cards in the current market. Prices are reasonable, so why not go for that valuable card that is a grade better than the one you have?

I spent the past year doing this, and have finished. It was a braindead time to do it -- anyone who let this time pass without taking advantage will regret it for a while I suspect. I was lucky in that nothing on the extreme high end needed it, but Beta rares are still Beta rares. Yoda agrees with me on this!

Hi Jurgen I think the time walk upgrade made sense .. you love the card and your first copy is truly well loved. In other cases I would give priority to completing the set unless an unusually good opportunity presents itself

fair point, xavier, and one i certainly can agree with! i think as well, though, that upgrading a mox or something similar in a weak market can be preferable to adding a few lower tier UNL rares, for example, which also could be added later easily. but i get what you are saying. i’d rather go for a timetwister than a mox upgrade 😁👊🏻

I love it when I miss a vintage video and find it later. It's like finding $20 in your back pocket. Time walk... favorite card 🤩 I'm upgrading still. In fact that's really all I'm doing. Instead of accumulating or hoarding like I used to, I'm either upgrading to nicer copies, or completing pet sets. Btw, I missed a few videos in there and all of a sudden your face is on camera! Curious what made you feel comfortable doing that after not for so long. Is there a video where you discuss that I can look up?

Great topic/video. I don't ever really upgrade beyond LP, but I certainly understand why folks would. More importantly nice kit, Germany looked sharp today!

thanks dungeonbrushbabbles! glad you liked the video 🙏🏻😃! yeah, i am happy with LP as well, but upgrading certain cards in a weak market couod elevate the collection a lot, i think. not saying it needs to be done 😂, just thinking out loud 😜. and yes, it was a great match and if they continue like that, they will have a great tournament! 😁👊🏻

I think it is still a good time to upgrade and extend RL cards for the collection. One can find good deals and the prices of many higher end RL cards are flat or trending downwards as far as I can see. An EX+ to NM black Lotus is certainly worth the effort of selling/buylisting some of your cards in my opinion. It may take some time and nerves though and I would only hand over your LPL black Lotus in person to its new owner. For the potential new black Lotus I would always ask for surface pictures as well in order to avoid roller lines.

i totally agree, thomas! that seems like a good approach at the moment. take opportunities while you can, i’d say 😁👊🏻. and i would only buylisr to a store i also buy from. higher trade in and more security, agreed. personal transactions are preferred with these high end cards, yes 😃

I generally don't upgrade LP cards that are more expensive, but I am not the biggest condition guy out there. If a single card in a set or subset is visibly more worn than others though, yes I would replace it. However my priorities are not upgrading cards at the moment, pursuing cards to finish some sets. An expensive card I DONT have would be just as good a deal during a cheaper market as upgrading a card I DO have, if that makes sense.

that totally makes sense, comforting orange! i normally go for set completion above upgrading as well, but sometimes it still makes sense to me to go for better condition 😁👊🏻

I've spent a fair amount on high end cards in the last 8 - 9 months so I'd have to say it's worth it. Only time will tell if we're right. Edit: Time Walk is an amazing card. Definitely worth it.

Beautiful upgrade! One of my favorites 🎉 ‘Coffee on the table as well..” raised my blood pressure 😮 I personally would be happy with the LP Lotus, but I understand wanting to upgrade and it could be worthwhile, especially if you can buylist the same place you want to buy the NM. I’ve upgraded cards in the down market before and the problem can be that then if you want to sell your old copy you’re still in a down market, so you either need to accept less money or wait longer. 🤷‍♂️ I dunno, maybe Yoda knows 😅

thanks, chris! glad you liked the upgrade and enjoyed the vid! 👊🏻😁 yeah, timewalk is such an iconic card, i really love it too! and i only would buylist with a store i buy the upgrade from, indeed! then it’s worthwile, as you get the trade in bonus. but i agree as well that your cards are not getting prime dollars in a down market neither. you can always try to find a good deal, though. 😎❤️

I'd say the answer to the title is "yes". In a bad market, prices tend to be lower. With MtG, especially if you are holding long term, you are fine. I think MtG will trend upwards over the long run.

hey stevie! thanks for the comment, really appreciate it! yeah, besides the fact that in the long run it indeed might pay off, i think the current market also makes it more accessable to upgrade, looking at the cost. i will try to upgrade one or two more this year 😁👊🏻

Been considering starting to collect antiquities. The set itself is very cheap so I may get started. Been starting to collect sealed product too. Love videos like this btw. Considering upgrading my mp workshop to lp or nm.

@@NerdAndProudOfIt Been collecting older draft boxes, especially the brothers war cuz its my favorite modern set. Some day the boxes are gonna be very expensive and I wanna own as many as I can. Yea antiquities seems like such a cool set to collect.

why would you not put sleeves on your decks? i played in '94 aswell, it was common in that period aswell to sleeve the cards

it was not common. sleeves were something that in our area only became a thing in 95-96. i believe during the first tournaments i played sleeves were even forbidden. and after that i sure could have played with sleeves, but it was in a deck that just was a casual deck that we simply did not bother to sleeve, as it was meant to be played as it is.

On this particular card I totally understand the upgrade, wanting to keep the original but have a nicer copy for the set! Plus the prices seems attractive at the moment.
