Has there ever been a Booster Box Game that was this silent? I completely forgot I was watching this video and then some time later, the "cha-ching" sound made me jump.
At our LGS we have the "No Tree Guarantee". Whenever you crack a draft pack with "Tree of Redemption" you can give it back and get another pack. It's funny on one hand, but sad that there is such a need for these Actions.
The way my store has it, is that the pack has to be opened during draft or in the store. (Which makes sense as it prevents scammers) but I personally don’t like cracking packs in store because all my extra sleeves/storage are at home.
Called it! Its next to impossible with those mythics (even at foil!!! my god this is sad) WOTC, this was supposed to be a celebration, something every player should get. 2018 is make it, or break it for you. Youre not making it so far.
Totally. And its not even just hype yknow? Its YOUR anniversary, you had YEARS to prepare this. Youre coming off an awful 2017, this was the turning point, conditions were perfect for you to recover and get back all players in loved with your games. And then just because "draft should be enjoyable" and "last minute additions" we get tree´ed of redemptioned. Im rroting for WOTC, but im not betting my money for them.
Professor, would you be willing to add a booster number "counter" onscreen so that viewers can know how close you are to the end of the box? It would help my analytical mind to know how close the box would be to squeaking by, or not.
I really don't believe balancing for draft is the problem. Having Tarmogoyf instead of Tree of Redemption has a negligible impact on draft. Draft balance is almost entirely a matter of the commons and uncommons. I think blaming draft is just beating up on a scapegoat, and I kinda suspect WotC prefers it that way to people just calling them out for deliberately withholding value. That said A25 would be fine at $7. There's no reason anymore to have $10 Masters sets as even when the value is there it's still prohibitively expensive to draft. Big box stores selling Masters sets also puts a hard price ceiling in place so we can never again have a situation like the original Modern Masters where stores and speculators force the price up.
This set is a major insult to Magic’s history. I wish Wizards would acknowledge what it seems like 99% of us are saying about this set. They did finally admit Iconic was a lemon set for $9.99/pack
Comment Grader I mean they included a card from every set, of course ixalan and amonket are in. And yeah there are some duds, but dark ritual, red and blue blasts. Jace even. There are a lot of good picks
doombringer4519 There is not a single mention of Urza or Yawgmoth in this set, let alone other iconic characters. And not a single rare from RAVNICA , the set that saved magic lmfao. The list goes on and on.
I bought 4 boxes of this set for ~$180/box. Opened a JTMS, imperial, chalice, and ensnaring bridge... and 1 port... and still lost about $150 over 4 boxes. That’s almost criminal on Wizards part to hose people who trusted them before spoilers came out, as I did, to get ripped off that bad
Jack wizards can't control the secondary number. When you buy a pack, you pay $10 for 15 random cards of different rarities with a foil. You got what you paid for. If you are trying to make money off of opening boxes you're just gonna end up broke
Agreed. There are definitly some great cards in it (okay, also some pretty bad ones), but it's the price that's keeping me away. I don't understand why it has to be 3 times as expensive, when the value is pretty much the same (if a bit higher) than a normal set.
To be fair, at least at my LGS the Jace and Bloodbraid elf unbanning has shaken up the meta at least. People are trying a lot of new things. But also this set is pretty rough going.
The issues with these masters sets go far beyond a tree. The main issue is $10 per pack MSRP with only a handful of needed reprints at any given rarity level.
I love it when you make these videos. I'm not going to buy a Masters 25 box, but I did draft it at my LGS and it was fun. I'm not sure if I will draft it a second time. I don't feel like the value is really there for the price. I didn't even open my prize packs because I don't want to be disappointed. The best thing about sets like this is it brings people back to the game. At my LGS, I saw a lot of new faces at the Masters 25 draft event.
The problem is not satisfying draft and reprints at the same time. It's about setting the right price point and putting enough value in the product for that price.
I started cheering in the second box, when he needed one more chase card and opened the tree TREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (seriously though the entire value of the set is in the chase cards)
I met you at GP Indy, Professor. I thanked you then for your superior content and i thank you now. I had considered buying a box of 25 for my friends and i to draft. I think i will just go for a more fun older set. Thank you, sir.
Hey prof you should put a counter for how many packes you have done. Like 6/24 packes opened or something like that. Just next to or above money to go.
Professor, I love how you do these videos! Not just speculation, but it's a real test of the box through experience, which is, the best teacher. (Sorry Professor, experience has you beat here....)
Yeah the foil multiplier is good for some of the cards in this set, Jace at $160 is double his value where Simian spirit guide is like $20 which is almost a 20:1 multiplier! (Since he sells for close to $1) but it’s definitely telling when all the value put in the set is in the uncommon/commons over the rare/mythic slot.
I want a box of master's 25. You make the best MTG videos proffessor. Been watching your videos for the longest time and always intrigued by your booster box game videos. Keep up the good work bro.
stores are throwing away the boxes at the price they got them just so they dont lose their money.it isnt healthy , you wont have anywhere a store to play if they continue selling "premium sets" that make less than standart sets.
LeMoose while I agree, I did manage to draft a hilarious deck in M25. Protean Hulk, Elvish Piper, Imperial Recruiter and... i forgot the elf's name, but it tutors for a 6 or more cost creature
wow, sorry to see that Prof. The Booster Box Game videos are some of my favorites, but I was sad for YOU when Tree popped up. thanks for doing the game, I'm gonna try to get a draft going with mine, then buy singles
Even at $200, you'd need an average of 8 dollars in value per pack to break even, and that's just not going to happen unless you open Jace. I mean you got a foil mythic and a bridge and still didn't come close. Really shows that the value of a Masters set can't be carried by a few chase mythics.
Man i just started collecting magic i bought a few packs of kaladesh and got a steel overseer masterpiece and i was hooked. I just recently started watching all of your videos and a few others i love the content. This sets a bit expensive tho and i have a kid but id love to pick some up when i get the money around. Thanks for the great content
Hey professor, Im 22 and haven’t touched Magic since I was 14 and I’ve been looking around RU-vid kinda trying to figure my way back into the game and so far your videos have been the most informative. Maybe you could give me some pointers or a link to a past video I might have missed about starting a deck and on how to get into the community so I can play the game again.
Nathaniel Heidemann thanks that is a good idea, with all the packs and stuff I burned money on I was working on a black and white deck with a mechanic I’m not use to (life drain)
This set is so disappointing I’m not even entering the giveaway, even if I won the box would just end up a disappointment oh never mind I wasn’t done with the vid yet, thanks for the change prof
I ordered the two planeswalker decks from ixaln and rivals of ixaln. It will be my first time getting into magic. Cant wait to collect more. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks.
It's sad that there are more common/uncommon cards in this set valued at $1+ than rares and mythics. Should have just called it pauper masters with a Jace lottery and sold it for $5 a pack, $10 is way too much with the amount of jank in the rare/mythic slot in this set.
Minus Moon or they're hoping that it will be slightly more terrible than Dominaria. Still a real kick in the balls when it's supposed to be the set that pays tribute to 25 years of magic.
To everyone saying how bad this set is. Let me put a positive spin on it. While it is unfortunate that the local game stores will be hurting from purchasing these sets they will be attempting to sell as much as they can to reimburse the expense. It is a fantastic time to get a new person into magic or to bolster your collection. With so many cards from so many sets, so cheap, people can learn a lot of what magic has to offer for mechanics, gameplay, and theme. Remember it's a card game, not card lottery. If you play for fun and enjoyment use this set to help make those dream theme decks and get someone into magic. Cheers!
Yeah, I decided when they spoiled the green mythics I wasn't buying a single pack of this, and I'm not budging. I'll put my money into products that are actually fun to play with, like unstable, or things that excite me, like Dominaria.
"So cheap" --> $10 a pack Yeah, no, I'll pass. It's a much better idea to just build a few cheap theme decks yourself out of singles, or get some of the various 3rd-party starter-decks around, and teach with those.
Not once in my response did I say buy a pack. This video was evidence enough to show that buying packs would cost you. As I said the poor game stores that buy these will lose out and will likely try to sell them cheaper when they can or sell the singles to try and compensate. I'm saying buy singles of the set to help make some theme decks or use them to show magic history to a new comer. Then they can pick a set they loved cards from. To the guy getting bad packs. Sorry I think that is more mail fault than wizards packaging. At least you get cards delivered near you. Not every person has access to magic cards. Also it's a game. While card quality is important, I would take a fun bent card I can sleeve to hide damage over a pristine boring playing card any day.
Fiancee was in Texas for spring break and she's just starting to get into Magic (I played with her on my birthday when she came back). Her friend is into Magic as well and found out about me playing and her learning to play. So they went to their LGS and she picked out three Masters 25 boosters for him to buy for me. I heard about it and felt bad because I knew the set was such a dud so I was simultaneously appreciative but also trying to hide my disdain for the set. Thankfully pulled a $15 rare as well as a foil Azusa, Lost but Seeking - sold them asap and am 1/2 the way to a Dominaria box!
Thx prof so much for giving away a chance to win this ultra expensive amazing draft set. Keep it up prof, your content is so amazing, entertaining, and educational.
Tree of redemption, Akroma and Gisela in the mythic slot is not necessary for it to be a good draft format, they could have been snapcaster, Urborg, tomb of Yawgmoth and archangel Avacyn, as the first of many steps to fix this garbage fire of an ev.
Unbanning Jace was such a trick for a cash grab. And they put Jace on a different print cycle than the rest of the rares to keep the price of it up. Out of the 8 unboxing that I've seen online I have not seen 1 Jace been opened at all.
Having a free booster box would be great!!! I can’t afford to buy one myself I’m hoping that I can get a job this summer to fuel my hobby. My freshman year is coming to a close.
As an overall box it's filled with bulk rares but as a draft it was quite the fun draft. I got one just to draft it with friends instead of the usual open the box like a Christmas present
Something I've noticed is that if someone pulls a protean hulk, it seems pretty likely they got a flash in the same box. Also, it seems like when I see Gisella, there's always at least one of four big cards in the box: Recruiter, Jace, Chalice, or Bridge. I've seen this on multiple opening videos now so it's kind of interesting.
A suggestion I have for these videos is to put a 'pack count' counter in the corner with the value, that way people can see how far into the box you are without having to keep track of it themselves.
Oh man, if I could win this, I would crack it open on my show, then Pass it forward in a way and give a box away too. This is just what I need to generate more fans.
Being in Canada with the terrible exchange rate on our currency LGSs still tend to sell these packs for 12-15$ depending on the store. Even with less value overall in these sets the price remains high due to stores having to buy at a higher price to start with....
personal oppinion: the money needed to break even should be coloured green and as the money you recieve gets bigger the colour of what you have should gette greener and if you surpass the needed it should change to the same colour as mythics symbol. if it surpasses well beyond than make it foil
Howdy Professor! Thank you for saving me from buying into the booster box game this time around. Could you add a counter to these BB Game videos, please (pack ?/24 or the like)? One of the best parts about opening a box is knowing how many packs are left and hoping that last pack will have the mythic or rare for which you are looking. Not knowing when you will be done (unless you are counting packs in your head) takes a lot of the excitement away, in my opinion.
I think $6 pack is the right price point for these Masters sets--I really enjoy the draft environments, but $10/pack is ridiculous for what you get and really kills the ability to draft it more than once. If the price falls to around $150 I'll probably still go for a box like I did with Iconic Masters. Those were some fun drafts (and it didn't hurt that I opened a Mana Drain P1, Foil Horizon Canopy P2, and an Aether Vial P3 in one of my drafts and still managed to 3-0 with Orzhov aggro beats).
Hey professor, I love your content, I'm sorry to hear of your umm, pulls in value for the box game, either way I love your content and I'm always glad to see your videos
20:45 These past couple of Masters sets have put that exact same thought in my head. Just once I'd like to see them put out a premium product that is meant to just restock players, with no intentions of playing in draft. Hell, that might even make for a fun and interesting draft experience. There is no reason for the $10 a pack price tag IMO. Unstable packs were pushed to the moon and they cost $4.
Phil Folios art is all classic and a big part of early MtG, but being part of early magic he illustrated some real stinkers Like Goblin chirurgeon, Dan Frazer also did a nice edition of the same but not with the same charm
