It allowed absolutely insane interactions. The simplest trick which I personally performed all the time in RAV - TSP times is putting a damage from my creature on stack, then bouncing this creature to my hand.

It's a bit of everything actually, plus people aren't as creative as the older days of magic

@@mr.neqtan I mean deck building wise, everyone just plays the same top eight decks and no variation for standard now. I remember when I started back when Gatecrash was just released, my friends had a variety of decks. But now, it's just top deck wins.

Riley Pace I was completely on the same page with ya. No worries. I started playing FNM back in 04. Even then, most of the tables were filled with t1. I often questioned, whether they could build their own decks? Net decking will never die. But it still proposes an issue, complacency and loss of creativity. There is a percentage of players brewing, but the rest just copy from their progress. After the year+ of ravager. I managed to get some consistent wins at fnm, with rogue "jank" decks. Used to get comments "You'll never place at a regionals with that pile.". My response "No perhaps not, but this cheap little (fun) pile is wrecking your $300 dollar decks.". I was just capitalizing on weaknesses in the local meta. I would home brew mostly to counter. But also home brew some fun tech, like B/W control built around Dimir Housguard.

It has 24 points. It is pretty far from making the list, but if it keeps seeing play in Legacy and Modern it has a chance.

@@NizzahonMagic interesting. Why not? Because it's effect is one-and-done? I guess i could see that. But its basically a free 4-8 damage. Maybe not as much as other turn ones can generate, but it's definitely better than the fanatic in my opinion.

It wasn't as dominant as you are remembering, not at the highest level. Even accounting for more GPs and PTs, it wouldn't make this list. Its whole resume was in 6 months in 04, and only amounts to 16 points. You have to multiply that several times for it to make the list.

I guess that's what happens when don't see play in your standard format.

@@OthEdden You can make it without seeing much play in Standard - Shadow's problem is it didn't see much play anywhere until the last 2-3 years. It will continue to build up its score, but it started at a disadvantage by being in print forever and not played at all.

How do you determine best aside from seeing how often they topped events especially in eternal formats?

Well, you're not the eternal champion...misleading name.

Points is points. Swiftspear has had a bigget impact across more formats.
