Thoroughly LOVED this video! So glad you're doing more top 10 videos. I can't wait to see your lists on other sets. You are very informative on the knowledge and history behind these cards. Great stuff Dev!
Found two Force Of Wills Monday night sorting my buddy's older cards. Great condition considering the way he stores his cards. I immediately sleeved them and ran to tell him what he had. He didn't really get why they were worth what I told him, but he was happy nonetheless. Made my night finding those for him!
Helm of Obedience is probably my personal favorite on this list. Man did I win some games with that sucker in blue/white mill control. Sometimes you wiff and get some lame 2 drop, but then sometimes you get like a Baron Sengir without paying for it. Now that I think about it, I think this feeling is why I love Aetherworks Marvel so much, it's like HoO ing yourself! Thawing glaciers was the bane of my existence. It is such power in a prison deck. It fits both the theme of Alliances/Ice Age and the style of play so well. 4 of TG was a must have in control, especially Icy Manipulator/Winter Orb shenanigans.
anything old school is fine with me. although, im kinda surprised you didnt talk about storm crow and all that it was become because of well, the obvious for those who dont like spoilers. fun video, hope to see more of these
I absolutely love Storm Cauldron. People severely underestimate that card and in anything running stax effects, it is an auto-include. I run it in my Kozilek, Butcher of Truth stax deck and it completely kills a lot of decks while being only slightly inconvenient to me due to the majority of my mana coming from artifacts.
So I haven't ever subbed to you cause I find constant deck techs are boring but I'll sub to you for this content. It's cool and a fun way to find niche commander cards
I won a match with a topdeck of Yavimaya Ants in the first big Extended tourney in Chicago [when Extended was Ice age/4th ed and forward + the real Duals] It was in the B/G stompy deck you mentioned: Dark Ritual, LLanowar/Fyndhorn Elves, Lotus Petal, Blood Pet, Yavimaya Ants, Sengir Vampire, Juggernaut, Ernham Djinn, Deadly Insect and Commander Grevan Il Vec were the core, with Sylvan Library, Nature's Lore, Rampant Growth and Dirtcowl Wurm in there randomly. it could regularly get a 4+ Power attacker by turn 2 or 3 with 18 lands [4 Bayou, 4 City of Brass 5 Swamp 5 Forest]. Every other Match it could drop Sengir Juggernaut, or Ernie turn 1. I once Dumped a nut draw hand and had grevin [a 6/5 fear] on turn 1, it took 3 rituals and a blood pet, bit it caused an insta-scoop. The Deck beat mono G Stompy and W/G Ernham/Willow Geddon pretty easily, had a decent matchup vs Necro Black and Red Burn but was crushed by fruity Pebbles [Enduring Renewal + Goblin Bombardment + Ornithopter/ other 0 cost creatures witrh counter backup]
I remember when inquest played a *forget what set it was up to* game with every card in the game up to that point :> And someone used a tutor to find soldier of fortune, basicly planning to make everyone concede by having to shuffle a 1k deck every turn :> he was IMEDIATLY nuked out of existance by everyone else :>
If you played Arcane Denial in a mill deck you could either get them to whittle their library down a little bit themselves or you could basically laugh at them for being in a position where they can't afford to draw a card, especially if they happen to only have a card or two left in their library anyway. And I believe there's a Timeshifted version of the Spirit Guide in red.
You can do an Ice Age top 10 and also a remember video, or you can do what I have been asking Wedge for a long time to do a review/top 10/remember video of Zendikar, since I was away from magic at that moment, just left at Urzas Saga, and came back with Innistrad, took another hiatus after that and came back with Khans.
Arcane Denial should have earned a top 10 spot and not just a mention. I have been playing Magic since Revised and it's the card from the Alliance set I've seen played the most. To this day I have friends who play it in their casual decks.
Could you make a standard deck tech based around whirler virtuoso - decoction module - panharmonicon combo? It is a bit of a vulnerable combo, but I still found it fun in an experimental deck I made. I can give you the list if you want, but I am new at deckbuilding (in fact this is the ever deck I have ever made) and I feel like it is not going to be really helpful...
That's not why Helm is played in EDH. Because of the wording on the card, you can mill somebody's entire library if there's a Rest in Piece or Leyline of the Void in play
Depends on the format really. Force of Will is free but it's like the aura of counterspells, you 2-for-1, which isn't nearly as good as people think. Still an auto-include in so many formats but just not as great as people say.
Simon Williamson in many instances that may be true, but being able to disrupt a turn 1 combo kill makes Force of Will invaluable in Legacy and Vintage. There is a reason people will say those formats are help together by Force of Will!
If Mana Drain was legal in Legacy, it would be tied for 1st for the best counterspell, IMO. Being Vintage only, Mana Drain falls to 2nd place with Force of Will 1st for the exact reasons that Stephen Trever indicated: stopping turn 1 combos.
I honestly think Gustha's sceptor and Ashnod's cylix deserve an honerable mention.. sceptor let's you extend your hand way past 7 cards and cylix let's you pick up what you want from your own deck early game while forcing your opponent to throw away cards mid to late game..
"play it as an interupt" still has use in magic. Mana abilities have split second, which is the modern equivalent to "Interupt". and this would be a mana ability
I've been playing Storm Cauldron for a while now in my Mina & Denn EDH, but everyone hates me for it so it had to go... xD Edit: I NEED Thawing Glaciers for them tho O_O
when that set first dropped, I destroyed more copies of Force than I can even remember, and I don't regret it in the slightest. Hate that card with a passion.
Yeah they could easily print her at uncommon nowadays. 6 mana 4/4 Shroud? It would be hot in limited maybe, but nobody would touch it in constructed. Back then, shroud was unheard of and seemed busted
False, It is not just used in commander. The helm/rest in peace combo is used as a win con in a deck called u/w helm. It plays rest in peace/energy field to stay alive until the late game and kills with the helm combo. Also, the combo is used for legacy enchantress decks to win if they don't draw Emrakul.
hate to break it to all you people who call force of will free. You may need to go back to school and learn how to read. The card says pay 1 life and exile a blue card from your hand soooooooo... not free
Maybe you're just a troll, but if not, a free card is considered any card that you don"t need to pay mana for, because you can play it when tapped out.
