This video highlights one of the reasons I hate when people compare the two most recent Ulamogs. They do two very different things and thus show differing degrees of effectiveness in different decks. Ceaseless Hunger gets rid of 2 problems, and gives your opponent a problem. Defiler says, "Do I get to attack?...Alright, I win.", straight to the point with no messing around. If you replaced all of its text with, "When this creature attacks, defending player loses the game," you would win and lose the same amount of games.
