In this episode, Dr. Paul Perito answers a viewer's question about maintaining a natural erection following penile implant surgery.
In short: The primary reason for men to undergo a penile implant is to be able to obtain--and maintain--an erection. A little-known effect of ED is that the tissue of the penis will atrophy, causing a loss of length and girth until treated, which can be halted via penile prosthetic surgery.
Any patient considering penile implant surgery should ask their urologist whether or not it's a recommended course of action if they are still able to sustain an erection.

Can a bladder sling procedure be done along with implant. I had heard having a implant can help with urgency and less accidents having the implant alone. Would you share.your thoughts about this I go the 10 of July after 2 prostrate surgeries rezume 4 years later this March I had turp procedure.

We don't recommend dual procedures.

Hi Dr.paul, i had a prostatectomy little over 2yrs. I can get some sort of erection without meds but not like it was before the operation(limp not as firm)and diagnosed with Venous leak. With Cialis and injection i can achieve firm girthy erection. Not a fan of the injection (don't like sticking myself) and the side effects of the cialis is bad(tried them all). Schedule for implants this coming Feb. But kinda still on the fences, will it ever come back if i give it more time? Did a stretch test non erect vs erect, i am a 1/2" bigger erect than non. Got pics to back up these claims.Would that cause a sizing issue?

Have an expert perform a duplex exam of the penis. If you have a leak, it will not improve and every minute you wait you are losing.

I have no problems having or maintaining an erection. I am considering an implants because I have peyronies with a 90 degree bend! The only reason that I would get the implant would be to correct the bend. Based on what I heard in MTP80, it is possible that I may still be able to "Feel Randy" (Get a chubby)?

When aroused, you will feel the blood rush into your penis and possibly have a "chubby" but never again an erection. Smart move getting the implant early.

Curious on this one. How long would I need to wait after a vasectomy to have a IPP placed?

6-8 weeks, but a vasectomy can be performed at the time of IPP placement with the infrapubic technique.

Lol it is 13 months since my implant and still can't have sex. It hurts the wife do to her being stab by the implant the head is to soft and rolls back no money to cover fillers

Some guys use cialis to address soft glans. Have you tried that? Also a tighter condom might give some rigidity.

Contact your surgeon or seek an appointment with your urologist. That shouldn't be the case, and the implant may require a revision.

Trimix gel worked for me. If you can get it, begin low dosage and play around with the dosage. Use too much and you will suffer some discomfort.

@@delbertstandifer3242 technically yes you can still get the blood flow that would lead to an erection, but practically, no, not for the shaft. This is because the spongy corpus cavernosum is replaced with the implanted tubes, and blood can't flow inside them.
