I've been working on MTU engines for 15 years and seen 4000 engines run till 30,000 before major overhaul, and at that many hours the liners/pistons/bearings look like new still... no additives used.
Yeah been to the training center for S4000 tier4 overhaul. Great setup , lots of mtu engines to look at , instructors great. I had Wolfgang in the past for ECU7 training , he’s very knowledgeable. For overhaul I had Greg Mowbray, they are all good teachers. All the best tools and specialty tools there to use. Highly recommend going if you get a chance.
I learned my lesson about German quality. They overcomplicate and add so many extra parts to things. It just makes a lot of failure points. I like the Japanese stuff. They keep it simple I own 2 Honda's and they seem to last forever. and I do use shaeffers oil in them
