You know, there's this dude/chick, that creates the classic MTV vidchecks with 80s era commercials. Thats only as close as your going to get to the 80s my friend. In case you want to check it out, here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uiOGGMMdjwE.html
Oh man I remember SO many of these. From 80s-90s. 1980s it was all about the all weekend nighter (no school in the morning) with my mate Steve seeing what Video is on next, so many great bands.... in the 90's it was all about the tunes before going out .. then flicking it on after getting in from the clubs for a few last min tunes before bed ...taping on VHS (remember that?) Beavis n Butthead.. now MTV? ...its gone, Now its all about the memories ...i still have a cool TShirt i wear mind.
0:45 I interned at a place called Olive Jar Animation (now defunct) in Boston some years ago. They did many of these spots, and had the M head that falls from the Guillotine on display in the hallway. It was always a bit surreal for me to walk past it.
I dont even care that MTV gave me ADHD these legit are so creative and an experience in itself aside from the music video that i used to constantly watch.
JUST want to watch this all day long over& over again, nothing like this either exist.no way to getting tired or even bored.just makes me so relax & smooth!
Man it was like a whole different reality back then compared to now, watching these brings it all back, and I get an overwhelming feeling of Freedom from watching these again, I wonder was it just that I was young or was it actually different back then?
No my friend....it was better. So much has changed an not very much of it for the better! These remind me so much of those great times. Without the worries and stress of a world gone mad like now! If you think im wrong...watch a few news clips from then.....then from now. Youll see what I mean instantly!
Creativity was through the roof! WOW! I was never allowed to watch TV when I was a kid. Looking at this now is completely remarkable! Where are these people now?
19:10 thank you for including the rudiments of rock video clip... I loved that one as a kid, I have been searched my for it and you have no idea how many of these compilation videos I peeled through to find it, finally
Oh man, as I was watching some of the bits from the 90s I felt like right after they're done, there'll be a new episode of MTV's Oddities (The Head and Aeon Flux), or The Maxx, or The State... Good memories...
The level of artistry in these oldies, are unmatched by modern day media. So many I remember, of these! And yet, so many, still not in the collection here. The imagery and sounds in these could be so absolutely messed up. I even recall I was so freaked out by one, that the music playing, was stuck in my head, even to this day! Sadly, one of the ones not found in this video, but I remember making a midi recreation of its music. I believe it was part of the 'MTV Oddities' bumps.
Does anyone remember a short with a green alien walking down the road interacting with the surroundings. At one point he faces a buff chicken that he shoots with an alien gun. There’s other stuff that happens, but the end shows him shooting his privates with the same gun. Video came out in ‘95.
I can appreciate the amount of creativity, creative freedom, and different medium used in these- But I would be lying if I were to say that none of these either made anxious, squicked out, or like I'm about to have a fucking seizure.
At least the animator behind a few of these animated bumpers became well-known in later years with a particular Cartoon Network show that aired in the late 90s: Ed, Edd n Eddy
I'm watching this as a way to escape polarised news and problem narrative podcasts and content (covid, politics, toxic finance) and go back to a day when there was none or at least I didn't know.
the 1991 the national tv of Macedonia started broadcasting MTV on their third channel МТВ3/MTV3 limited time 1400 - 1930 enough for: 3from1, Party Zone Greatest Hits with Paul King.... Those were days my friend, come home from school and turn on the tv volume up
Does anyone remember that one made of doe, with a small guy pressing repeatedly an elevator button? He was saying angrily "c'mon, c'mon, c'mon... c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!!!" I'm watching all of these vids and it doesn't seem to be anywhere.

It’s a reference to the climatic last scene of the 1980 sci-fi film _Altered States_ which A-ha used as inspiration for their music video five years later.
Say, is the bumper at 16:15 done by Joe Murray? It looks suspiciously similar to the end of the "Rocko's Modern Life" title sequence, where Rocko and Spunky also run into a TV-shaped building with the show's logo on it, which then falls on top of the other characters. Also, that cow appears to be a prototype of "Rocko" character Heffer Wolfe. Yeah, I believe this is Joe's MTV bumper I read about on Wikipedia which features a prototype of Heffer! Good find!
I was 23 when MTV went on the air and grew up on Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Boston, the Who, Fleetwood Mac etc. I thought the music on MTV was crap back then. Haven't changed my mind.
The one at 9:39 was funny I remember that one but there is one missing its where a young girl is pretending to be on a horse and the letter m is a pair of trousers
