@@shawnabel8834 They weren't trash, however, and I've said this on another video, but I don't agree that Swann was robbed. His content was just a complete miss and I think the judges realized it. Swann was dope but he basically spit generic pre meds the whole battle and all of them had nothing to do with Wrekonize. Big nose jokes, skinny jokes, tight clothes jokes... Wrek doesn't have a big nose, he has a pretty average build and his clothes aren't tight. I think the judges noted that as well, which is probably why they gave it to Wrekonize.

I saw this live as a kid. Freeway, Memphis Bleek, and Dame Dash were judges until the final round. The final round was SMS text votes only.

Blind Fury got robbed.............. I'm just kidding lol. Yeah Swann and Wrekonize were really dope. Not sure if I agree though. Swann's punchlines didn't have much to do with Wrek which made his rounds kinda not great. Wrek had an average build (not skinny, not fat), his clothes weren't tight at all, his nose isn't big...... Seems like Swann just had lines about general topics and just picked the wrong ones to use in a battle with Wrekonize.

@@ant4613 Wrek's shirt isn't tight by today's standards, but by 2003's standards? Yeah, it's a little tight. Lmao I do agree his nose wasn't big tho. Still that whole "stripes tattooed on his chest line..." had cracking me up for YEARS after I originally saw this 😂 I'd say the first round was pretty much a wash, but Swann got him in the 2nd, hence why I believe he won. Did you see Wrek vs the other MTV battle champ winner Reign Man before? I honestly thought Wrek lost that one too, despite Reign's clearly written raps.

@@KoolKeithProductions I've seen tight shirts and... it looks like a normal shirt to me lol. If it were actually tight, the sleeves would be tight too and they clearly are far from that. So it's a reach IMO. I just think Swann missed the mark entirely with his subject matter, like he came with lines for someone with a big nose, tight clothes and an anorexic frame, and Wrekonize just isn't really any of those things. So I think Wrek deserved the win. Just my opinion though, of course you're entitled to your own. And yeah, I just watched that battle, not sure how Wrek won given his stumble in round 2, despite the good rebuttal to start the round. Strong rebuttals can override everything so... idk, maybe that's why the judges gave it to him, or they just didn't think Reign Man was freestyling? Idk, but I wouldn't have given Wrek that battle.

@@ant4613 Well it is a rap battle, so things can definitely get embellished a bit. lol The only thing I feel was a flat out miss by Swann was the nose comments, but everything else was fair game. The thing that put it's over the top for me was the uniqueness of Swann's bars. We've all seen rappers get clowned for being fat. Hell, Wrek does it in this very battle, but how often do we see rappers clowned for NOT being fat? lol Wether he was really too skinny or not was besides the point, because it still was a unique area of attack. Meanwhile, it's just the same old fat jokes from Wrek. Plus he added in that weird "you looked like you're covered in oil" line, which has racial undertones, so I just couldn't rock with him here.

From the judges' POV, I'm trying to think about why they gave the battle to Wrek, and I feel like it's probably for the same reasons I did. Like why do you think the judges gave the battle to Wrek? I always try to think about that when I don't agree with the judges' decision in a battle. I think Swann is really dope, there's no arguing against that, but I also think his style can get tiresome, especially when he's battling guys who are on his level. But for me, it's mostly just the content being a miss. Watch Wrek's battle with K Ceasar... Ceasar's round 2 in particular. Literally all of his lines are straight-up misses and not entirely because he's just not very good lmao (btw that battle is really funny, love Wrek's reaction to some of Ceasar's bizarre punchlines), but because his lines are just reaches. Pants tight, shoes dirty, nappy hair... after every line, Wrek is just like look at my pants, look at my shoes, look at my hair... clearly all these things are false. So it just makes your performance come off weaker if you're coming with content that isn't really accurate. To me, at least. I don't really think Swann's bars were all that unique either. He puts his own spin on them, but as far as the angles he uses. Obviously, fat bars were way more common, but it's not like skinny bars were super uncommon. It's normally just not the first approach you'd go to unless the guy was clearly very skinny. About the oil line... idk. You're 100% entitled to your own feelings on that line (and in general, of course, I respect your opinion) but I wouldn't really hold it against Wrek or any emcee who spits a line like that. It's battle rap, pretty much nothing is off limits. I think I'd be uncomfortable and hold it against an emcee if that's their only angle or they spit a blatantly racist line (in the context of a rap battle)... Otherwise, it's fair game. If he said something generic like "you don't spit tight, you're darker than midnight", would you be able to rock with that? Or are all lines like that off-limits to you? Genuine question, just not sure cuz you would hear lines like this sometimes. Also, not 100% sure about this, but I think the judges were black... so they clearly didn't have a problem with it. Curious to know what your thoughts on battles such as Franco (def a guy who got clowned on a lot for being skinny btw, lots of skinny bars used against him) vs. Sketch from Scribble Jam 2006. Franco has a lot of dickriders online still to this day, but a lot of people think he should have won that battle and only lost because of his racist lines. Also, Mad Illz vs. NoCanDo from Scribble Jam 2005 and Parable vs. Dread from Scribble Jam 2007. Mad Illz has a line "this man looks like Stick Stickly dipped in fondue"... which I think is a pretty unique punchline personally. But it's similar to Wrek's sorta. Also, NoCanDo's another guy who was clowned for being skinny as well, in that line and pretty often in general, so again, not to keep going back to that, but it's not that unique of an approach lol. Parable vs. Dread, pretty obvious win for Parable, but he does have a line that called Dread "Jar Jar Binks dipped in tar and shit"... and that got the loudest crowd reaction. So idk, I know it's a touchy subject, but it's no different than clowning on someone's appearance in general. How deep do you really wanna break it down because something as simple as saying a black emcee looks like another black guy, like an actor or something, can be considered racist too, a lot of lines can be tbh. It's battle rap though.
