i remember watching that first odd future interview with joey badass on MTV. you had joey badass calling in from highschool that was so crazy. can't believe MTV went offline. i remember watching MTV2 in Miami in 2012 one day & you came on the screen and i was like yo i think produced for this dude back in the day, but no one at the time believed me
Mark please keep doing these videos for the CULTURE. Your CV speaks for itself and I wholeheartedly believe a shift in how content is created, viewed and preserved is coming as we move into this digital age. There was Sway & Big Boy etc. but you and genuine journalists like Justin Hunte, Jinx and B. Dot are them for this upcoming generation. Stay true, bcos your work doesn’t go unnoticed to the ones who need it ❤️ bless up
Was gonna say that it's only a matter of time before Datpiff only exists in memory. We need a dedicated website to act as a historical hip-hop archive for music, videos, and documentation. I never thought I'd have to protect a genre of music but it's clear the powers that be want to wipe the culture, (or pieces of it), away.
Damn man, I wouldn't have known this happened without your video. Rap history is important. My son is 7 and the way that he discovers older music starts with me, but then his own musical taste kicks in. So i'm watchin the Digital Underground Same Song video introducing him to Shock G and Tupac, because this stuff matters. The interviews that you and your peers created don't just matter to me, it matters to the future generations. Meanwhile he knows who Elvis Presley is because his principal loves Elvis. Crazy. Keep making vids Rob.
Thank you for making these videos because a lot of us want to watch something that is hip hop and because new generations are gonna watch there videos and there gonna learn more by watching these videos and I'm even learning more things and I'm gen-z I'm 21 turning 22 on the 29th June so thanks bro I appreciate it a lot 💯😎
Im mexican and I got into Hip-hop in my early 20s. Theres not a lot of places to learn about hip-hop here so youtube became my school and you were one of my teachers. Sometimes people dont understand how big and important are articles, interviews, blogs, reviews... this is not "content", even tho these companies would like to tell us that... its resources, history, culture. Knowing the internet theres a great chance that some people have copies of those video interviews and maybe even some of the written pieces, lets hope so. Anyway, people that care about the culture are going to remember Rob and this video is a testament of your dedication and profesionalism.
I remember on RapFixLive there was a segment on Kendrick in 2012-2013 and my tweet made it on to the show and was read out loud. Rapfix Live was a STAPLE
Rob , The second I saw you had a channel about 2 months ago or maybe a little less. I knew I would be a subscriber...Your footprint on our culture can't be denied replaced ...Your one of the Heroes of Hiphop and I'm grateful to be down since 1981 because Im 55 years...I LOVE YOU BRO the respect is strong....Bro I'm from DC but moved to Liberia west Africa in 2008. The internet isn't always strong or the Electricity sometimes goes out for 2 hrs or so some days...So I developed a habit of screen recording everything I like just for the reasons you mentioned about MTV News...I brought True Hiphop to boardcast in my shop and if the internet isn't working properly. I play the recordings and people can't tell the difference but I'm saying all this because I know things might disappear or the internet might be buffering...I have many interviews and clips that I can't find online anymore. Now it has become a daily habit..For example: The Kendrick and Drake Battle...I have every reaction video, song, short video clip in one folder, so Brothers and Sista can experience what if felt like in every step of the battle in chronological order just to keep the culture spreading here 8n Liberia....I just keep Hiphop everything playing while people are chilling in my shop...So we won't get done the same as your saying in this video...THANKS Bro for contributions..ONE !!
This is the problem when we don't own our content and someone else fronts the bill for research and information. Data loss with the larger corporations will be inevitable when "passion projects" or their newly acquired businesses are no longer profitable. Back up your favorite content, media, and data folks (don't just stream and use the cloud) external data banks and physical media are still our best friends. Thanks Rob for all your time hitting the pavement as a journalist (and please read "1984").
This is the video that got me to hit that subscribe button. Obviously to me I’m watching the breakdowns and the craft and work ethic is very apparent. But the passion showed in this episode more than any of the others that I have seen in the last month or so.! Peace King 🫡
not even a month ago i was on the site reading the actual article from when LUDACRIS + T.I. dissed each other on YOUNG BUCK’S song. always knew the story of course, but to read something from when it actually happened is so valuable. it even had a quote from YOUNG BUCK. so much history is gone.
My big comment disappeared 😳 It's really sad news about all the interviews/videos centred around music. I hope, big shots from Paramount are going to upload it somewhere/sell it to Netflix or Max. MTV archive - 😎 I still buy Blu rays for my collection, because of stories like that. Movies and shows disappear from streaming services. Same with games, I prefer physical copy
I appreciate this conversation. Just hearing about these interviews are gone to limbo is disheartening. We gotta do our best to keep the continuity of our history. I see them bringing a pen and eraser as we speak.
Bro keep progressing of the content you are doing. Someone with this passion for hip hop and getting archives to the people are vital!! I do believe God will put someone or you in a position to relive or reproduce those archives. Keep pushin’! The youth is going to be in the position of power and going to be leaning on advocates like yourself! God Bless!
Its upsetting as we move into this age where practically everyone is just trying to make money for the sake of making money, we lose the things that make us human. Hip Hop is so much more than just the music. There are moments in Hip Hop that are World History that we may lose because of the lack of interest in history. Nowadays, people think the loudest person with the biggest following is the person telling the true story. Hell, a lot of the artists don't even care anymore. Even now there are debates of whether or not Puerto Ricans helped create hip hop. Without true journalists and historians in this culture we love, we're gonna lose everything. Take care y'all be safe!
i was about to cook you, but i watched back... yeah that was weird LOL. Ive been sick, so it was trying to clear my throat and speaking at the same time probably lol
Dag man, that sucks… if anything this just reinforces the importance of doing your own thing. Atleast here, you have the ultimate say on your channel. Contract work is cool and all, but MTV can very much do what they please with the their content. Yea, RU-vid is kind of contractual work as well because you are utilizing their platform, but at least you can take your content and upload it elsewhere. Here’s to hoping you can recreate some more moments on your channel 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾
I think the wayback machine still has archives of webpages from MTV news so I don't think the info is truly gone. Also are we sure that MTV really wiped their servers? They could have just decided not to host it online but the info could be on a server somewhere.
You bro, at this point, you and others like you will have to document or history for later generations. Free of the machine, because I feel like at this very moment, our future is truly in our hands. The music and culture is back in our hands. Remember, at the beginning of Hip Hop, the machine did not believe or see a profit from the culture. They didn’t think it was going to last. 50 something years later and we’re back at square one and we’re should take advantage of this moment in time..💯💯💯💯
don't trust clouds and shit that you can't touch and feel with your hand. This is why people be fighting hard at the moment for physical releases for movies, tv shows and music
This an opportunity for people of the culture to take that responsibility and carve their own path to tell stories create videos and have the culture appreciate them for that. There’s been too much corporate boot licking tech has help take away their leverage
Most these videos ur talking bout u can find on RU-vid, I guarantee that's why they just deleted everything, cause u can still search and find them. It's not bad as u think, it's just, the future is here.
