The creature looks a lot like Kirin, in Japanese mythology. Also known as Quilin in Chinese myths. A creature that is the harbinger of peace, wisdom and prosperity.

The Tannin in biblical Hebrew was likely a general word for reptiles but seems to be used to refer to draconic mythical creatures just as well. We have the great Tanninim (התנינים הגדולים) which were most likely great water serpents, similar to ones we find in myths of Canaanite and other neighbouring cultures. The word Tannin is also used by Canaanite texts to refer to serpent and reptilian mythic creatures as well. They very likely didn't believe in fire-breathing winged four-legged dragons like European dragon, which appears much later, but the word was used to refer to mythical great reptilian creatures.

Maybe, but I think the mythical element to the creature is more forced than it actually was

@@MythosSafari It might depend on which tannin in the bible we are talking about, because some examples are definitely just animals and others seems to be more mythical. I think it might be similar to the word wyrm, which in Old English referred to snakes and worms but also to dragons.

Do you also explore the first Mesopotamian cycle of city-states, prior to the Babylonian empire? Civilization did not seem to begin with Babylonia, both the Akkadian and Assyrian periods were relatively late compared to the cities of the earliest Sumerians. The stories of the Enuma Elish do also include the earlier creation pantheon of the sky gods, the sun and moon, which still remained as the original progenitors. But the offspring and the dramatic episodes of bloody conflicts between the monstrous offspring of Tiamat and Marduk the conqueror are part of a later mythological period, at least no older than 1000 BC. So it is not accurate to mix the two cultures and the theological backdrop as if it was all a single civilization. The same mistake is often made with Egypt and reinforced by not referencing dates or dynastys. The Mesopotamia of 3600 BC was a very different world of very different people than the regimes and empires under Nebuchadnezar, Hannibal, or Darius.

One area of interest for creatures, if not a being rather; nagas already have a vast array of history and different geographic locations credited to them.
