I recall arriving at the freestall barn early on still, very cold mornings and finding all the cattle laying down, comfy in their stalls. I'd yell "everybody up!" and they'd all rise and steam from their body heat would produce a fog in the barn. Then, to my amazement, the steam would rise to the metal roof, condense and a mini- snowfall would occur!

Happy cattle=happy beef! My grandfather always taught me, " Take care of your stock first, then you eat." Seeing those contented animals resting in deep bedding evoked strong memories of my Granny making sure I was reminded each Christmas Eve that our cows would kneel and pray at midnight... I told my now 86 year old Mom that the other day and she said, " Oh yes, ever since I was old enough to hear it, too." Thank you both for seeing to the comfort if your stock. It teaches our special needs students, who by the way raised their own turkey and prepared a Thanksgiving meal this year, that caring for animals is a good thing to learn! Glad you're back!

I liked to see the time-lapse at the end. The music, however, reminds me of funeral music as videos and pictures of someone that has passed are playing. I hope this doesn't mean you are hanging up the pitchfork!

Been Missing you folks. Great way to finish out the year. We have had an unusual start to winter here in Southeast Nebraska. Right after Thanksgiving, we had just a dusting of snow and then it warmed up into the 50's range and we started having rain. Then we watched the weather report on TV and the weatherman said there was no chance we will have any snow for Christmas. We got out of bed on Christmas morning and everything was white! But it was so warm that the snow was actually slushy underneath and very hard to scoop. Then we had another 2 inches the next day, so now we have about 4 inches of wet snow on the ground, but the pavement was so warm that nothing stuck to it. It's not like when I was a kid when snow would come before Christmas and stick around until mid-March. And January was always below zero most days but now it rarely ever gets to zero in January. I gotta say, Hilarie is a hard worker and very patient to put up with those dad jokes. Happy New Year folks!

Pete- you are so right about the mud- you like to get stuff done outside if the weather is mild, but the mud really complicated everything. I love how you save stuff from your prior projects/ farmers have to be savers. Can’t describe how many times we have been able to repurpose stuff into new projects!!

Orden is so hilarious 😂. He sure was enjoying having his back cleaned up lol. Loved the boar shaking while you were giving him rubs! So glad Hil works along side of you!
